The M3 Clonee to Kells motorway scheme is one of the largest single road scheme projects to be constructed in the Irish state. The scheme includes some 63km of motorway together with 61km of associated local county and link roads. There were a total of 59 structures constructed together with 39 structural culverts. Two toll plazas were also built as part of the scheme.

The scheme involved 37km of 4 lane motorway between Cashel in Tipperary and Carrigane, in Cork, providing a bypass of 4 villages, and the construction of 4 new grade separate interchanges and 79 structures. The scheme also provided for the 3km long N24 eastern bypass of Cahir. The type of contract used was Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), the first in Ireland.

The scheme provides a bypass to the north of Ballaghaderreen town. We act as the employers agent for the design and build procurement and supervision of 13.6 km of standard 2 lane single carriageway, a grade separated junction with the R293, 6 bridges including the Lung River Bridge and the R293 interchange Bridge, at grade junctions and realignment of local roads.

M18 / N17 Gort to Tuam PPP - 57 Km & 38 Bridges

N52 Carrick Bridge to Clonfad - 5.6 Km

N4 Lucan Bypass6 Km & 3 Bridges

The N17 /N18 Gort to Tuam PPP Scheme is approximately 57 km in length and commences at the northern extremity of the N18. The road will be of motorway standard from Gort to the junction at Kilmore near Tuam, a distance of 53.2 kilometres. The road continues with a dual carriageway type 2 cross section for a distance of 4.2 kilometres.

We were contractor’s designer for 5.6km of standard single carriageway national secondary road, 2km of various single carriageway road realignments, 1 no. principal bridge, various major / minor priority junctions, access tracks, culverting and re-alignment of river streams, fencing, safety barrier systems, drainage and earthwork, including areas of soft ground.

The bypass, approximately 6 km in length involved the on line widening of the existing road from two lane dual carriageway with hard shoulder, to three lane dual carriageway with bus lanes along one of the busiest roads in Ireland. The scheme included sections of split level carriageway and conversion of the at-grade signalised Newcastle Rd junction to a grade separated junction.

Newcastle Bridge, Lucan45 Metre 2 Span Bridge

This is a 383m seven span steel arch bridge across the River Slaney in Wexford Town. The original prestessed concrete bridge was seriously defective with high levels of chloride, corroding reinforcement and prestessing anchors as well as spalling concrete. The bridge links 400km2 of mainly rural hinterland to the principal town in the region.

The M3 River Boyne Bridge is a 114m long three span structure crossing the River Boyne, South of Navan in Co Meath. The bridge is part of the M3 Clonee to Kells, 64km motorway constructed as a PPP by Eurolink. The brief required the bridge design to reflect the nature of the adjacent multispan 18th century masonry arch Ballinter Bridge.

The N4 Newcastle Overbridge is a 45m long 2 span structure, carrying the Newcastle Road over the N4 Lucan Bypass. The bridge forms part of a grade separated junction, removing the previous at grade signal controlled junction and giving a free flow route to traffic on the N4. It was constructed while maintaining traffic flow on the N4 and R120.

This is a 1.6km urban renewal scheme to improve bus, pedestrian and cyclist facilities and reduce traffic speeds. The scheme includes, inter-alia, for the upgrading of cycle-ways, bus stops, footpaths, carriageway, landscaping, signage and road markings. The scheme significantly improves facilities for cyclists and pedestrians.

Dublin City Centre Cycle Parking Strategy

We were appointed to provide a Cycle Parking Strategy Report to provide a greater understanding of existing cycle parking facilities, level of demand and cyclist parking habits, as well as addressing future cycle parking needs, taking into account planned transportation infrastructure, demographics, development strategies, and modal shift trends and targets.

The Kill Lane / Kill Avenue quality bus corridor and cycle track scheme provided for improved priority for buses, improved facilities for cyclists and pedestrians, and significant footpath and junction improvements including mobility impaired and disabled facilities. The total length of the scheme was 3km with 1.5km of bus lanes.

We are one of 7 suppliers on the NRA‘s framework agreement for the delivery of Road Safety Inspections on the National Road Network. To date we have carried out inspections on the following routes: » N15 & N10 national primary

roads » N60, N61, N66, N74, N76 & N77

national secondary roads.

The Dublin City cycle scheme involved the provision of approximately 50 no. “pay-for-use” cycle stations throughout the city. We undertook the stage 1, stage 2 and stage 3 road safety audits, for both the servicing and operational aspects of the cycle scheme, in accordance with NRA HD 19/09 Road Safety Audits for the National Transport Authority.

This project involved preparation of a design to improve the facilities & safety of cyclists & pedestrians in the area known as Newvale in Shankill. The neighbourhood is located in close proximity to two schools, a library and local health centre and is subject to numerous pedestrian and cycle trips as well as traffic congestion at school drop off and pick-up times and local traffic rat-running.

Authority on all transportation aspects.

Diageo appointed us to undertake a traffic risk assessment and prepare a traffic management plan. The plan considered all trafficked areas within the curtilage of the site, the main site access onto the public road and the external staff car park. The traffic risk assessment identified recommended actions to be taken to eliminate risk where possible.

The Ballincollig Town Centre extends along the main street of Ballincollig. The development is comprised of a shopping centre, offices and residential. We handled all of the traffic and access issues including the traffic section of the Environmental Impact Statement and the design of the various access points to the public road.

Responsible for the highway element of the reference design required for the preparation of a railway order. Duties included the design of vehicular access arrangements to all stations, intervention shafts, and operation control centre and maintenance facilities including access arrangements. We also designed pedestrians & cyclist facilities as well as car park layout and design.

We provided options, costings & recommendations to the local authority for the provision of permanent traffic counters for all main traffic arteries into Thurles. We commissioned the installation of permanent inductive loop counters. We commissioned a cordoned origin & destination (OD) traffic study of the town. Compiled OD study report and delivered to the Local Authority.

We were responsible for the master planning, design and development of several motorway service area facilities throughout the major inter urban road network. The service areas comprise facilities for motorists and their passengers, which provide extensive parking, fuel stations, sanitary welfare facilities, Garda enforcement areas and restaurant food/outlet facilities.

We designed a pre-occupation mobility management plan for the Mater Private Hospital who were seeking planning for an extension. The plans objective was to improve site accessibility, whilst providing a sustainable approach to the site’s transportation requirements. To achieve this, trip movements to and from the site were examined and assessed for potential future influence.

We designed a mobility management plan for both Mount Anville secondary school and junior school. The aim of the plan was to reduce dependence on the private car to pick up and drop off students at the school, reduce traffic congestion within the school and surrounding public roads and to increase green mode of transport mode share i.e. bus, cycling, and walking.

A travel survey was undertaken to identify existing travel patterns and to identify opportunities for improved sustainability. The Mobility Management Plan, sets out the long term strategy of Microsoft to promote and deliver sustainable transport objectives, to improve accessibility to the site, whilst providing a more sustainable approach to the site’s transportation requirements.
