COMPANY OVERVIEW Incorporated in 2002, Beijing-based Sinotrans Limited provides
a comprehensive range of shipping and logistics services, including freight forwarding, express cargo transport, shipping agency resources, warehousing, terminal management, trucking, and marine transportation. Its operations cover China's thriving coastal regions, including Fujian, Guangdong, Hubei, Jiangsu, Shandong, Shanghai, Tianjin, and Zhejiang. An extensive domestic service network and partnerships with international logistics agencies such as DHL and UPS helped Sinotrans grow its business by 25% in 2003.
CHALLENGES/OPPORTUNITIES Sinotrans used a number of specialist information management
systems developed for the shipping industry. These disparate systems made it extremely time-consuming for
Sinotrans to track customer orders and reconcile financial and operational information.
