The Traduzione Editoria department of the San Pellegrino University Foundation organises advanced training courses in the fields of translation and publishing. The department originates from its first course, Tradurre la Letteratura - Translating Literature, which enables translators to specialise in literary translation. The course curriculum is supported by seminars aimed at exploring the many different aspects of translation. In 2015, the department launched Il mestiere editoriale e le nuove professionalità - The Publisher Trade and New Professional Figures, an advanced training course which provides students with the traditional and modern tools required by a publisher or publishing professional of the 21st century. In addition, the department organises one of the most important networking events for translators and publishers: Le giornate della Traduzione Letteraria - The Literary Translation Days. Roberta Fabbri is the Director of the Department.

The Translating Literature seminarsThe Translating Literature seminars take place on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings. These seminars focus on specific topics which range from literature for young adults to graphic novels, romance novels to historical fiction. Thanks to the contribution of experts and professionals of different sectors of the publishing industry, the seminars ensure the topic at hand is explored in a targeted and in-depth manner.

TRANSLATING LITERATURE For the last twenty years, Translating Literature has provided advanced training to professional translators who wish to work on the Italian publishing market. The course runs for 13 weeks, from October through to January, 8 hours per week (Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings). Each participant can attend the English workshop and a workshop in the language of their preference: French, Spanish, German, Russian and Portuguese.

The lecturers of the seminars and workshops are professional translators and key figures of the publishing industry. The course is an opportunity for participants to start building their professional career. Students also have the opportunity to sign their first translation contract thanks to the Foundation’s many connections with Italian publishing houses.

THE LITERARY TRANSLATION DAYSThe Literary Translation Days take place every year in late September - early October in the historic city of Urbino. This event is organised by Stefano Arduini and Ilide Carmignani in collaboration with the International Studies Department of History, Language and Culture at the “Carlo Bo” University and the San Pellegrino University Foundation. The Literary Translation Days are three days of seminars and debates held by writers, scholars, translators and publishers who analyse current issues and future horizons of a trade which, as Susan Sontag once said, is the circulatory system of the world´s literatures. In addition, two prizes are handed out during the event: The Zanichelli award and Harlequin Mondadori award.
