The International Human Rights Training Program(IHRTP) is an internationally recognized intensivethree week training program. It is the only trainingin the world specifically dedicated to building thecapacity and skills of human rights educators. The program is a unique opportunity for humanrights educators to acquire practical tools toimprove the effectiveness and impact of their workwhile deepening their understanding of humanrights.

NOTRE APPROCHE

The Program is an immersion intothe participatory approach. Theparticipants are at the heart of theprocess. They analyze their workand create new strategies for actionbased on their own experience.

During the training, the participantsdevelop an individual plan, with the helpof coaches, in order to put into practicetheir newly acquired knowledge and skillsthrough activities (training, campaigns,evaluations, follow-up, etc.) within theirorganization and in their countries.

The varied professional backgroundsof the participants bring a greatrichness to the program. Every year,close to 90 participants from morethan 45 countries join the programbased on their experience andcommitment to the field of humanrights.

The program is for human rightseducators from civil societyorganizations, regional and nationalinstitutions and governmentagencies.

REGISTRATION FEES

The tuition fee is $ 6195 CAD This covers: • Training costs • Accommodation and meals • Program materials • Emergency medical insurance

Full and partial scholarships may be available

The IHRTP is held in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, a community in suburbanMontreal. Participants stay in sharedapartments at John Abbott College.

In addition to the participatoryapproach, the program familiarizesparticipants with the human rights-based approach, the genderperspective and the systems approach.The participants acquire and developtools for improving the effectivenessand the concrete impact of their work.The IHRTP helps participants transformtheir work methods by making themmore inclusive and participatory.

The IHRTP is an opportunity forparticipants to meet other committedindividuals who, like them, areleaders working for change in theircommunities. By taking part in thetraining, the participants becomemembers of a community of practiceallowing them to network with morethan 3800 former participants andexperts and to share tools andresources online.

Equitas has over 50 years of experience inhuman rights education. The quality of ourprize-winning work has been recognized inCanada and abroad. In addition to havingtrained several world leaders in humanrights, Equitas has an ongoing workingrelationship with the Office of the UnitedNations High Commissioner for HumanRights.
