Creating YOUR Story Map

Part 1: Getting Started1. Click on the following link: http://storymaps.arcgis.com/en/app-list/2. Choose Build a Map Tour:

3. Choose ADVANCED OPTIONS for where your images or videos will be uploaded from and click on MAKE A SELECTION:

4. Select START A NEW TOUR and click on MAKE A SELECTION:

5. Give your story map a Title and Subtitle by clicking on Edit me!:

Creating YOUR Story Map6. Click SAVE now and often to make sure changes are not lost:

7. Choose ADD to build your first tour point:

8. Under MEDIA tab, paste a URL link in the PICTURE and THUMBNAIL boxes (this will be the title page image)

Note: To find an image URL, right click on an image that is hosted online and select copy image location/image url. This will vary depending on the Web browser you are using. You will paste this link into the Enter an image URL field.

Creating YOUR Story Map9. Under INFORMATION tab, give your tour point a NAME and CAPTION (briefly

describe what the image is representing):

10. Under Location tab, drag a pointer in the region where your related notes are taking place. To find the location of your point, you can either zoom to it or search by key word/address.

3. DRAG IT if it’s not where you want it to be

2. Click LOCATION KEY WORDS (e.g. city, river, lake, etc) or enter an address

11. You can make changes to text by selecting the icon. 12. Select an appropriate Basemap.

a. From the Basemap tab in the top left-hand corner of the screen, select a basemap that will give context for the features you want to highlight on your story map.

13. You can also make changes to the media and

image.

14. Changing your application settingsa. Click on SETTINGS to make changes to the application settings.

b. Under Extent tab, zoom into the area of focus by clicking on Draw a new extent.

Creating YOUR Story Mapc. Under Zoom Level tab, set zoom for story point to level 9 (you can always

revise this, but this setting will zoom into your points from original map).

Note: Have you saved recently? DO IT!

Part 3: Sharing Your Map15. Click on SHARE to publish your map and OPEN to see how map will be

viewed by your audience:
