    Explain the role of ISO standards in any organizations development. Its advantage and disadvantages and applications in industry.

  • What is ISO ?- ISO means International Standard Organisation- Began in 1946 when delegates from 25 countries met at the Institute of Civil Engineering in London.- Its central secretariat is in Geneva,Switzerland and it has the authority to issue certificate of quality management and quality environment.- ISO has published more than 19,500 international standards covering almost all industry.- Today,ISO made up of 163 member countries around the world. And became the world largest developer and publisher of International Standard.

  • - It is NGO(Non Government Organization) which helps to promote the business by providing them the solution of quality problems.- ISO do not decide when to develop a new standard, but responds to a request from industry or other stakeholders such as consumer groups. Typically, an industry sector or group communicates the need for a standard to its national member who then contacts ISO.- ISO standards are based on global expert opinion,the standards and developed by groups of experts and technical committees from all over the world.These experts negotiate all aspects of the standard, including its scope, key definitions and content.

  • - ISO standards are developed through a multi-stakeholder process,the technical committees are made up of experts from the relevant industry, but also from consumer associations, academia, NGOs and government.

    - ISO standards are based on a consensus which based approach and comments from all stakeholders are taken into account.

    Meaning of ISO 9000 :-ISO 9000 is the latest version of the organisation which give those who satisfy the following conditions:-

    - Fulfills the quality requirements of customers.- Customers satisfaction.- Continue improvement in quality management.- Proven records on how and where raw materials were kept and products were processed.

  • ISO 9000 is more powerful too to get confidence in the market,the company can invite customers to check the quality before purchasing the products where customers can understand its value.

    Meaning of ISO 14000

    ISO 14000 is the standard certificate which gives the business organisation who fulfill the condition relating to the quality environment.Means all measure related to the protection of the environment.

    In summary,ISO 9000 control product's quality while ISO 14000 controls environment quality.

    After getting the ISO standards,the company will have to maintain and control its quality where it is the objective of the ISO standards.
