you that citizens of the EU, EEC (European Economic Community: EU members &

Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein) and Switzerland aged over 65 years may use the public

transport free of charge in Hungary (on trains only on second class carriages).

HOW TO GET FROM THE KELENFÖLD RAILWAY / BUS STATION

TO THE CENTER OF BUDAPEST?

From the Kelenföld Railway / Bus Station you can choose among the following options:

Tram no. 49 brings you to Deák tér (end station, from there, the starting point of various

city sightseeeing tours are within a walking distance of 10 min.; tickets are available at

our reception).

Not far from Deák tér, the most popular pedestrian zone of Budapest, Váci utca, the

Basilica of Szent István, further Europe’s largest synagogue as well as the nightlife

district with its numerous bars are located.

If you get off of tram no. 49 at the 8th stop (Fővám tér), you will arrive at the largest

market place of Budapest where back in the days, the former Prime Minister of Great

Britain, Margareth Thatcher, has already gone shopping.

Page 15: Tourist information on public transport to & in Budapest ...€¦ · t 'hdu *xhvwv :hofrph wr rxu *xhvw +rxvh &dpslqj zlwk d xqltxh idplo\ dwprvskhuh lq d txlhw uhjlrq qhdu %xgdshvw

15

Here, at Fővám tér, we recommend to switch and get on to tram no. 2 (towards Jászai

Mari tér), which brings you to the Parliament (5 stops) and gives you an astonishing

view on the Castle of Buda on the way. You can also get off at the 1st stop (Március 15.

tér) and from there, take a walk in the directions of the Chain Bridge and the Parliament

on the Danube promenade, one of the most famous of its kind in Budapest with a breath-

taking view on the castle district of Buda.

If you use tram no. 19 (from the Kelenföld Railway / Bus Station) and get off at the

10th stop (Clark Ádám tér), you’ll find yourself at the bottom of the Castle of Buda and

next to the Chain Bridge. From here, you can climb the castle hill by foot or by using

the funicular or bus. Also, you can reach the Parliament taking a walk across the Chain

Bridge (approx. 20 mins.). Alternatively, you can get off one station earlier at the 9th

stop (Várkert Bazár) and visit the recently renovated Castle Garden Bazaar. After a short

walk, you will arrive at the Chain Bridge. If you continue with tram no. 19 (from the

Chain Bridge) for two more stops (Batthyány tér), you can enjoy a fascinating view on

the Parliament across the river Danube.

You can also choose the Metro Line M4 (from the Kelenföld Railway / Bus Station),

which starts from Kelenföldi Pu. In this case, we recommend to get off at the 4th stop

(Szent Gellért tér) at the famous Gellért Bath. From here, you can continue your tour

with tram no. 19 to the lower entrance of the Buda Castle and the Chain Bridge (3rd stop,

Clark Ádám tér), or cross the Danube with trams no. 49 or 47 to the Pest side until the

end station (Deák tér, the center of Pest). Or otherwise, you get off the metro M4 at the

5th stop (Fővám tér) at the famous Great Market Hall. From here, you can get to the

Parliament with tram no. 2 (5th stop) or take trams no. 49 or 47 to the end station, to the

center of Pest (Deák tér).
