Blair instrumental in music praise at Baptist Church for 50 years HARDINSBURG- A sur- prise was kept from veteran organist, Betty Blair, and it left her almost speechless. In many ways it was a special day as she marked 50 years of service to the Hardinsburg Baptist Church’s music pro- gram. She also was able to hear her granddaughter, Jaclyn Williams, singing “I’m Re- ally Happy” A cappella. It was estimated by for- mer music director Mary Lois Roberts that Blair has played well over 5,000 times for worship services and spe- cial events such as weddings, funerals, revivals, Easter, Christmas and other special music presentations. It began when Betty Mon- arch was 16 and Barbara Chambliss, the church’s or- ganist, was moving from Hardinsburg. The then pastor, Bob Wayne, transported her to Louisville each week to take lessons so the church would have an organist as well as a pianist. She mastered the Hammond organ and now the Allen organ which the church has in its new sanctuary. During half a century, she has worked with eight pas- tors as well as many interim pastors. She has adjusted to many pianists at the church, as well as music directors and adjusted to their different styles. Blair accepted the Lord as her savior when she was a high school junior and could never have envisioned what He had planned for her the next 50 years. The entire con- gregation has benetted from her dedication and depend- ability. Blair told the congregation, who presented her with a nice gift in appreciation, that her philosophy is “If you are going to do something, do it right.” Photo by David W.
