The ADTRAN Total Access 5000 is a carrier-class Multi-service Access and Aggregation Platform (MSAP) that bridges the gap between existing and next-generation networks. With a pure
Ethernet core, the Total Access 5000 supports
both legacy and emerging service interfaces
over copper and fibre, easily scaling to
support even the most bandwidth-
intensive applications.
The 2-port 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GE)
aggregation line module provides two 10GE
Small Form Factor Pluggable Plus (SFP+)
ports that can be used to extend Ethernet
services from the core. It can be installed
in a simplex or redundant configuration
when used with the next-generation
Total Access 5000 4x10GE Switch Modules.
Flexible modes of operation provide
operators with multiple aggregation
options. The 2-port 10GE aggregation
module supports ITU G.8032 Ethernet
Ring Protection Switching (ERPS) to extend
the Total Access 5000 network with resilient

■ Expands subtending capacity via multiple 10GE uplinks via 2 SFP+ provisionable optics per slot supporting simplex or redundant architecture
■ Resilient service protection via ERPS or Link Aggregation support
10G capacity. In addition, the 2-port
10GE aggregation module supports the
ADTRAN network aggregation mode,
which provides the ability to aggregate
additional Total Access nodes to the network
similar to ERPS. The 2-port 10GE Aggregation
Module can also be used to aggregate other
third-party, standard-based 10GE services
or platforms. The faceplate ports can be
placed in a Link Aggregation Group (LAG),
using IEEE 802.1 standards, to increase band-
width (up to 20GE) and provide resiliency
to subtended devices. 10GE interfaces are
supported via SFP+ modules providing 10G
options for both short and long distance
optical and/or electrical interfaces.
Local management is handled through
VT100 terminal emulation on the craft
interface. Remote management is available
through Telnet or SNMP using management
VLANs. ADTRAN’s Advanced Operational
Environment (AOE)/Element Management
System (EMS), a comprehensive management
platform for the Total Access product line,
can also be used to manage this module.
