Bill Harris Slams Homer To Take Highland Park 3-2 Torrance Signal OiIersi<Sunday and Sunday afternoon took a ten land Park Ramblers at Torrance Park, 3-2, when Bill Harris, out- fielder-pitcher, proving he can win ball games on the mound or at the plate, slammed out a long round tripper over the right field wall to finish a close content. Fine fielding play by both squads kept the respective hurl- ers out of hot water all the way through, with a pair of double killings marked up by both in- fields. Arch Campbell, Oiler mounds- man, went, the full route, a did Arnold Linlnger, southpa flinger of the Ramblers and one of three Linlnger brothers on the club. Plans Nearing Completion For Badminton Play Plans were neaiinfc completion this week toward staging of the Seventh Annual United Statei Badminton tournament, which will pit more than 500 of the nation's finest players April 3- 5 at Pan Pacific auditorium. Top-ranking racket wlelders will fight it out for the more than $3500 In prizes and tro- phies. Sponsored by the LOB Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce the tournament is the first na tlonal affair ever to be held in California, and the initial United States tourney since the rigid 1942 war sports blackout. National Supply Plans Recreation Program For '47 SOFTBALL SKIPPER . . . Lou Luther, above, recently appoint- ed manager of the 1947 Na- tional Supply Co. softball team. Hopes are high in the National circles and a promising softball season is expected. For the first time In Torrance, :he National Supply Co. has planned an extensive recreation program for employees. New equipment and uniforms are being purchased and soft- ball, basketball and many other ecreational activities are planned. In naming Lou Luther man- ager of the 1947 National soft- ball team, they are assuring their team followers of a skip- per with many years of softball xperlence. Lou has been with National for 20 years, at pre- sent holding the position of su- pervisor. He started playing ball In Colorado and has played in many Southern California semi- pro leagues. Klink's Lose Semi-Final To Anaheim Five The Klink's Cabrillo Mart bas- ketball team, of the local Re- creation league, lost by. the close score of 38-33 to the Ana- helm Kiwanis club in the semi- final round of play in the Whit- tier Invitational tourney staged last Wednesday in the Whittier high school, gym. The locals were well on the road to victory until their star center, Marvin Lee, sprained an ankle and was removed from the game. Lee was a bulwark on defense and swished in 19 counters for the losers. The Modern Chevrolet five, of Whittier, advanced to the finals by posting a 55-50 win over Proctor's Sporting Goods, of Long Beach. The Whittier team copped the championship on Friday night, dumping the Anaheim cagers by A 44-33 score, while the Long Beach entry took the third place trophy by defeating the undermanned Torrance team 47- 14. Proctor's won the Long Beach City championship last Sunday evening in the Long Beach Armory with "a 36-32 vic- tory over B 1 o c k 's Sporting Qoods, also of Long Beach.
