Characteristics and areas of use
Torpedo 2 is a winter active, highly rhizomatous tall fescue with medium-fine leaf texture that
spreads and self repairs through extensive underground rhizomes. Unlike traditional tall
fescue which has broad leaves, Torpedo 2 has finer leaves and an upright growth habit
making it ideal to use in racetracks and in mixes with perennial ryegrass.
Torpedo 2 is suited to use in racetracks, parklands, secondary ovals and erosion control
where the self repairing rhizomatous nature of Torpedo 2 aids in surface stability.
Breeding history
Torpedo 2 is the second generation of winter active rhizomatous tall fescues selected from
the original Torpedo. The original plants came from North West Spain.
Sowing rate and maintenance
Torpedo 2 tall fescue can be sown in parklands, racetracks, home lawns and general
purpose turf at 40 - 50 g/m2 or 400 - 500 kg/ha. Use the higher seeding rate for racetracks
and where more rapid establishment is required. Lower seeding rates are possible for
erosion control and ground cover in mixtures.
