I’ll see everyone at the picnic and regional leadership training session. The Evening Club is in good shape with the new leaders, new members, new programs and a Greater than ever Duck Race. I will continue to be involved, especially in the 75 th Anniversary Celebration. Thanks to every- one for your help and co-operation in making the 2009-2010 year a good one! The Heartland Club has a commit- tee that is going out into the schools to present the SafeEars Program to 4 th graders and provide resources for obtaining services for the hear- ing impaired. April and Peggy showed us their routine and materials used during their presentations. Word has gotten out about the presen- tations, and they have more requests than their committee can fulfill. The Evening Club has developed a committee to partner up with the Heartland Club to make presentations throughout local schools and community. Our SafeEars Committee members are: Terry Cuthbert- son, Matt Dowd, George Laliberte, Pat Riordon, Norman Stahl. If you would like more information or participate on this committee, please contact Terry C. at [email protected] , or call at 267-6016. June 1 - Topeka Marian Clinic, Guest Speaker was Robert Trepinski, Executive Directorf. He gave an extremely informative talk on the medical and dental services provided by the Marian Clinic to those who otherwise could not afford health &/or dental care. He gave numerous examples of medical professionals who selflessly donate their time and skills to provide care in the clinic, as well as heart-warming stories of how peo- ple's lives have been impacted, or saved, by their efforts.

Also, Terry Cuthbertson gave a brief summary of the Safe Ears Committee's meeting with April Best and Peggy Fisher of the 501 School District's Speech & Hearing Dept. The committee is coordinating efforts for Sertomans to make presentations at local schools, in coordination with 501, to encourage children to protect their hearing.

Jun 14: DLC Registration due, fee $5.00 ea; thereafter fee will be $8.00 All new officers and leaders should plan to attend, as well as any others interested in leadership opportunities. Jun 15: 5:45p – Family Picnic at Gage Park, Westlake Shelter House, across from the zoo. Food and refreshments to be provided, Installation of Officers, brief board meeting to follow. Jun 19: 9:00-3:00 – District Leadership Conference, Topeka Shawnee County Public Library (See enclosed DLC Registration Form) Jul 1: Annual Convention Registration due, fee $330; thereafter fee will be $350 Jul 6: 5:45p - Washburn University, Dr. Jerry Farley Jul 20: 5:45p – Program TBD; Board meeting to follow Jul 29-31: Sertoma International Annual Convention, San Antonio, TX (Registration Form attached.) The Annual Convention will be held this year in San Antonio, TX, at the Hyatt Regency on the River Walk. The standard room rate for this event is $165. This is an opportunity for all Serto-mans to obtain an update of new programs and annual reports from headquarters and the Ex-ecutive Board, enjoy socializing and networking with others across the nation, vote on your favor-ite candidates for next year’s Executive Board, and participate in some excellent leadership and program training seminars. To learn more about the Annual Convention and/or register online, visit the website at www.sertoma.org. A registration form is also included with this newsletter for mail in or fax. Registration fee will be reimbursable to any Evening Club members that submit receipt of registration following attendance at the Annual Convention to Celia Cuthbertson, Treasurer. Early registration fee of $330 due by July 1, thereafter fee is $350.

The Duck Race Steering Committee is on the fastrack to finalize preparations for Race Day, which is September 11 at Shawnee Lake. Adoption Certificates and Posters will be available soon for distribution. Race Day takes all of our support to make this day a success. If you have not already signed up to help on that day and are available, please contact Michelle Wilson Skin-ner at 244-7670 to obtain an assignment. If you would like to attend a meeting to get more infor-mation and assist with the planning, meeting dates follow. They are always held at the Topeka-Shawnee County Public Library at noon – 1:00p. Lunch is not provided, you may bring in lunch or purchase from the café.
