    Visits to Orphanage

Volunteers at PDH continue to regularly visit ADJANO Josephine, 13 months old, at the CentreOrphelinat de la Renaissance (C.O.R), an orphanage situated in Sanguera. Josephine's mother isHIV positive and does not have a stable job; her father is a security guard who earns very little.

Considering that they were unable to care for Josephine adequately, her parents accepted the offer ofthe Sisters of the Congregation of Saint Cajetan to place Josephine at C.O.R. Josephine is thrivingamongst her peers at C.O.R and is learning to stand and walk unassisted!

    Jules (4-26)

On the 18thDecember, PDH sponsored 16 year old Jules to begin his tiling apprenticeship to support

his family. Jules has a difficult home life; his father passed away and his mother is ill. Thisapprenticeship will take 4 years to complete and will be undertaken with supervision of masterbuilder/tiler Kossi Dzotsi. PDH covered the complete fees of the apprenticeship. Furthermore, PDHwas able to effectively explain all aspects of the contract that Jules was signing and answer anyquestions that he or his mother had about his future work as an apprentice.

    Grce (4-69)

Grce is a 14 year old girl from a disadvantaged family with 5siblings who lives with her grandmother. She is a wonderful andhard working girl whom PDH has been sponsoring since November2008. In the mid-year school holidays she took the initiative to starta stall selling groundnuts at the local market to help support herfamily. Most recently PDH, on the 20

    thDecember, has been able to

help Grce by purchasing her school textbooks (English, Germanand 2 Economics classes). Grce is a bright girl and received goodmarks in the last academic year, an overall of 62.5% across her 8subjects. With PDHs donation we hope that she can continue tofocus on her studies and keep up her grades.

PDH warmly welcomes international interest in our volunteer program. We have hosted a diversecrowd in Lom over the last decade from solo travellers, to groups of friends, to one mother-daughter pairing all of whom fit into the organisation equally. Regardless of your age (we haveseen 19 through to 67) or your profession, volunteer work in Togo can be a profound experience.

How long can I stay? There are no minimum or maximum stays at PDH, we are willing to work with your scheduleto find something that works for both of us.

How much does the program cost?Volunteers are asked to make a 100,000 CFA (150 EUR / 200 USD) donation on arrival. Fullboard accommodation is then provided at a rate of 25,000 CFA (37.5 EUR / 50 USD) per

    week.Ie 12 weeks would total to 400,000f CFA (600 EUR / 800 USD).

Please keep in mind that conditions in Togo may notmeet what you are used to at home however we work to make your stay as pleasant aspossible. Let your host know of any dietary preferences so they can tailor meals to you!

What does a typical work day look like?On a typical Monday to Friday, you will attend our daily meeting at 07:30 beforeaccompanying one of our agents on a case visit. We at PDH are aware that many of you who would like to help our cause here in Togo simply

cannot, due to your own financial limits. There are, however, various alternatives to sending

money that can greatly benefit the humanitarian work of PDH.

    Spread the word

Our website features a Download Depot, which stores posters and desktop images. You can

download and/or print these items in order to promote our organization in relevant locations around

your town or city eg. cafs, churches and universities.

    Promote PDH

Help us to promote our cause and international profile by telling your friends and family about us. The

more people that know about PDH, the greater our support network - it's that simple. You may also

know somebody who is in a position that can greatly aid us by promoting our cause; a university

lecturer who could throw us up on a slide, a local priest who could speak to his congregation, or even

a travel agent. You could provide them with a copy of this newsletter to distribute.

    Like us on facebook!

Every acknowledgement of our work means a lot to the local volunteers, so consider liking us today!

    http://www.facebook.com/PDHTogo

    Pray

For those of you who are religious, you will know the value of prayer that money simply cannot buy.

Please remember us in your prayers, as everyone's spiritual faith is integral to the work that we carry

    out here.

    Fundraise

You can help PDH raise funds by conducting your own fundraising event. For example, auctioning off

old belongings on Ebay or hosting a dinner with a silent auction.

We often get questions about what people can send to us to help. Over the last couple of years moreand more things that we need such as school books, stationery and condoms are available here to

    buy.

Monetary donations are the most liquid, and thus most effective donation that we can receive. Weavoid postal costs, and often prices are cheaper here so we can gain the maximum value from yourmoney. Another positive outcome from doing it this way is that it helps the local economy here inTogo.

On the other hand if there is something in particular that you would like to send over (e.g. clothes, puzzles, board games) then feel free to do so; we know sometimes it is nice to send over productsthat you have chosen, so we will always be happy to accept any packages we receive. We are alsovery grateful for supplies that volunteers bring with them from their families and friends.

Very often at PDH, we are forced to turn away people that we, quite simply, cannot

help. This is due to the extremely limited nature of our financial and materialresources as we are 100% dependant on donations and volunteers.

We believe that PDH is an excellent choice for those of you who are willing to donate moneyto a small non-government, non-profit aid organization. This is because our administrationcosts are very low and we guarantee that your donation - in its entirety - will provide reliefthat is desperately required by those in need.
