Presented by For years the county 4-H program organized an annual kickoff party to motivate 4-H clubs to get started with their 4-H year and to introduce the 4-H program to interested youth and adult volunteers. While the kickoff party did provide great networking opportunity and an introduction to 4-H, the local county 4-H staff was at a crossroads. Deciding to adjust the focus and create a much richer experience for those involved empowered the 4-H staff to create the “LEND A HAND” Day event. The service day event created an opportunity for 4-H youth and volunteers to connect with community partners such as Habit for Humanity, the local food bank, and the area humane society and to help make a positive difference. In addition, it helped raise awareness of local 4-H program. Because of its success, a neighboring county recently integrated the service day event into their 4-H program. service projects. (7) Handle last minute RSVPs. (8) Determine catering needs and finalize menu. (9) Create a photo list for photography to circulate in the community during the

service day.
