INTRODUCTION Australian Building Products (ABP), founded in 2011, has a manufacturing facility strategically
positioned to service the Melbourne market. ABP is engaged in providing products to the building
industry. Strategic relationships are being developed in regional areas in order to increase the
customer base. ABP's customer base includes builders, developers and owner builders.
Principal business activities include floor joist & rafter manufacturing for residential and small to
medium commercial projects, and the development of new products for the domestic market.
MEGAjoist TM uses solid timber flanges, and intermediate timber webs that are glued together which
acts more like a timber beam than a truss, thus giving the completed floor system a more solid feel.
GENERAL NOTES
Conventional framing practice can also be applied to MEGAjoist TM installations: however, to
get maximum benefit from using the MEGAjoist TM system, builders are strongly advised to
take advantage of its unique features by adopting the following guidelines.
To meet the requirements of the Building Code of Australia (BCA), all work must comply with
AS 1684.2-1999 and where applicable with MEGAjoist TM installation guidelines.
For details not covered in this manual please contact our registered structural engineer.

FLOOR LOADING
MEGAjoist TM have been designed for the following Dead and Live Loads:
Dead Loads – are constant in magnitude and fixed in location throughout the life time of the
structure. Floor dead loads used for production is 0.5 kPa. (50 kg/m2)
Live Loads – are temporary loads due to furniture or people which may vary over time. Floor live
loads used for production is either 1.5 kPa (suitable for domestic floor) or 3 kPa (suitable for
commercial floor).
FACTOR THAT CAN AFFECT FLOOR PERFORMANCE
Method of installation
Fixing of sheeting to joist
Floor joist centres
FACTOR THAT CAN IMPROVE FLOOR PERFORMANCE
Deflection of the sheeting material between joists can be reduced by decreasing the joist
spacing or using a thicker and/ or stiffer floor sheeting
Proper installation is essential for reliable performance.
HANDLING AND STORAGE
MEGAjoist TM can be laid flat nested in rows, provided they are clear of ground.
MEGAjoist TM can be stacked on top of each other, and should not be left exposed to weather for
extended periods of time without adequate protection.
TRIMMING LIMITATIONS FOR MEGAjoist TM
MEGAjoist TM can be trimmed on site.
MEGAjoist TM are required to be manufactured to the required span for each project.
If adjustments to span are required for MEGAjoist TM you should contact us.

RECOMANDATION MAXIMUM SPANS FOR RESIDENTIAL/COMERCIAL FLOORS
Note: For extra solid floor use the next joist size up from the specified size.
Note: In compiling the span tables in this manual, the requirements of the relevant Australian
standards and codes along with established industry standard design guidelines for
Residential/commercial construction have been followed. In a particular, the following codes and
references have been used:
AS 1720.1 Timber Structure – design methods
AS1170.1 Structural design actions-permanent imposed and other actions
SEVICEABILITY CRITERIA
Max Dead load deflection - lesser of span/300 or 12mm (j2 = 2)
Max Dead & Live load deflection – lesser of span/300 or 12mm
