I am delighted to announce that Selby & Friends, in conjuncon with ABC Classic FM, is in the process of recording Beethoven’s chamber music for an excing radio series to be broadcast in the near future. So you may noce a decided emphasis on the great master in the 2014 season with a special program devoted enrely to Beethoven in Tour 2. Here we explore his extraordinary growth through a lifeme of great works which cover Beethoven’s early, middle and late periods. For Turramurra patrons, please note the concerts will begin at 2:30pm in 2014. In addion, one concert (in May) will occur on a Saturday aſternoon to avoid a clash with Mother’s Day. Susie Park – VIOLIN

Acclaimed multi-award winning Australian violinist and former member of the Eroica Trio of the USA, Susie is an alumna of the Curtis Institute, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and Marlboro Music. She has performed at most of the major music festivals in the USA and Europe and is a founder of the East Coast Chamber Orchestra in New York.

Torleif Thedéen – CELLO

Considered one of the most brilliant cellists of his generation and a prodigious chamber musician, soloist and teacher, Torleif is a regular collaborator with some of the world’s great artists and conductors including Esa-Pekka Salonen and Neeme Järvi. He has made numerous CD recordings for BIS, CPO, Decca, EMI and Deutsche Grammophon. Torleif is Professor of Cello in both Copenhagen and Stockholm.

Julian Smiles – CELLO

Member of the Goldner String Quartet and the Australia Ensemble at UNSW, Julian is considered one of Australia’s finest cellists. Busy as chamber musician and soloist, he teaches around the country and has worked with many of the world’s acclaimed musicians. He has participated in numerous recording projects for ABC Classics and Chandos labels.

Kathryn Selby AM – ARTISTIC DIRECTOR / PIANO

Described as a ‘formidable’ pianist and ‘driving entrepreneurial force’, Kathy is Artistic Director of Selby & Friends and the A Little Lunch Music series at City Recital Hall Angel Place. Recognized as an internationally renowned soloist, mentor and founder/member of both Macquarie Trio and TRIOZ, Kathy has won numerous awards including the prestigious Australia Council and Winston Churchill Fellowships. She is a graduate of the Curtis Institute and Juilliard schools, an alumna of Marlboro Music, Spoleto and the Australian festivals of chamber music and is a featured artist on ABC Classics and Naxos recording labels. In 2013 she was awarded the prestigious Order of Australia (AM) on Australia Day.

Natalie Chee – VIOLIN

Born in Sydney, Natalie currently makes Stuttgart home as Concertmaster of the Radio Symphony Orchestra. She was concertmaster of Camerata Salzburg for 10 years and has collaborated with the likes of Murray Perahia, Anne-Sophie Mutter and Trevor Pinnock. She has been guest concertmaster with many of the world’s great orchestras and is the founder of the Hegel Quartet.

Elizabeth Layton – VIOLIN

Internationally renowned soloist and former concertmaster of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Elizabeth has toured extensively with the famed Nash Ensemble and performed with Hephzibah and Yehudi Menuhin, Zara Nelsova, Shlomo Mintz and Rudolph Buchbinder.

Timo-Veikko Valve – CELLO

Soloist and Principal Cellist with the Australian Chamber Orchestra since 2006, Timo-Veikko was born in Finland and is a guest artist at chamber music festivals and soloist with orchestras in Europe, Asia, Australia and in the USA.

Tobias Breider – VIOLA

Principal Violist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and international soloist, Tobias has held Principal Viola positions at the Rhine Opera in Düsseldorf, the Hamburg State Opera and the Konzerthaus Berlin (formerly Berlin Symphony). He has a busy schedule as a chamber musician and teacher and appears regularly at festivals in Europe and the United States.

Clancy Newman – CELLO

An internationally renowned New York-based soloist, Clancy has won both the prestigious Naumburg International Competition and the Avery Fisher Career Grant. He is an alumnus of Marlboro Music and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and makes his celebrated return to Selby & Friends in 2014 as an accomplished composer and performer.

Daniel Dodds – VIOLIN

Recently appointed Artistic Director of the famed Festival Strings Lucerne, Daniel was born in Australia and is a regular guest leader of many of Europe’s great chamber orchestras including receiving a personal invitation from both Claudio Abbado and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, in addition to guest leading the Australian World Orchestra. This is Daniel’s first appearance with Selby & Friends.
