p ines who n eve r h av e th e opportunity t o g e t ahigh school ed uca tio n sim ply because the ir paren ts are too poor to send them. This is the th ingtha t rea lly makes th e establ ishment of theseschools such a g r e a t o p po rt u ni ty. S in c e the re a r eso m any young people who cannot go to highsc ho ol fo r fin an cia l re as on s, if there were schoolsw he re t he y could go and earn t he i r way, hundredsw o u ld com e from a l l over th i s a r e a j u s t b e c a u s ea place is available where they can work theirway through high school.

T he p rim ary purpose fo r th e establishment oft hese schools is evangel is t ic . I am sure t h a t each

of t h e se schoo l s wil l a t t r a o t s ev er al h un dr ed s t udents each year. A t least 80 pe r cent of that nu mb e r will n o t b e C hr is ti an s when they come. Bibleclasses will be taught every day, and we will havean e va ng el is t w ork in g w ith each school; consequently, most of tha t 80 pe r cent will be wo n toChris t . W e h av e le arn ed from o u r experiences inthe Seminary tha t the first th in g the se new conver t s will wan t us to do is to go to thei r homesto preach to itheir parents. When v go we willnot only preach to their parents. Their friendsand r e la t ives wil l come i n and wil l hear the Gospe l also. Therefore, every convert in th e highschools will give us th e opportunity of reaching

    several fa milie s f or the Lord, and e ve ry villa gefrom w hich the y come will be an opportunity fo rth e e sta blish men t of a N ew Te s t a m e n t church.W e a re confident t h a t th e evangel is t ic w o r k inthis area will be multiplied several times o ver ifwe can ge t on e or two of these schools establ i s h e d

S e ve ra l o th er good things will come from th ees t ab l i shmen t of t hese schools also. Righ t now w ehave to main ta in tw o departm ents in the S e m i naryone is for non-h igh-schoo l graduates. We willbe able to elim inate th is depar tm en t w h en wehave the high schools. They ca n no longer say, W e can not afford to go to high school, fo r weca n answ er them, Oh, yes, you can. Here is ahigh school where you ca n earn your way. Thus,

    th e ca l ibe r of ou r Semina ry s t u d e n t s wil l b e g r e a tly improved. N ot o nly will t hey have a h ig h s ch oo leduca t ion , b u t they wil l ob ta in a good b asic k no wl edge of th e B ib le fro m th e c la sses t a u g h t dur ingthe i r h igh schoo l yea r s . Also, m an y s tu de nt s willgo right ou t of the high schools in to the .Seminary, a nd thus t h e schoo l s will a c t a s feed ers fort h e S e m i n a r y.

O ne of the reason s th e people of th i s a r e aar e so poor is b ec au se m o s t of th em a re farmers .According t o g ov er nm en t s ta ti st ic s, th e annual income of th e ave ra ge fa rm fami ly i n the Ph i l ipp inesis 200. Th is m ay be hard fo r m a n y o f yo u to evenimagine; nevertheless i t i s t rue . There are sevenpeople in th e average Filipino family. One of th er easons the f a rmers a re so poor is th e an t iqua tedmethods of farming tha t they use. W e will have

to use the bes t and m ost up-to-date farm methodstha t can be used in the Phi l ippines on the fa rmsc on ne ct ed w ith t hese high schools if we are tomake these schools real ly support themselves .T he s t u d e n t s will l ea rn these methods a n d wil lc ar ry w ha t they learn back to their fathers ' farms. They will be able to farm much more land thant he ir f at he rs w ere able to ; and in so doing, theywill vastly improve their ow n economic conditionsat th e same time improving th e e co no mic c ondit ions of the churches. I t shou ld no t be too longbefore th e churches will be able to s up po rt t he irow n preachers, as well as the Seminary, and manyother actiA^ties n ec es sa ry t o th e spreading of th eGospel o f C hri st .

In reporting on the recent progress of th eC hr is ti an H ig h Schools, we are happy to informyou that we have title to sixty acres in Pamplona 30 miles bu t a half-day s journey west ofAparri. In Esitefania in the Baggao a re a, a bo ut 3hours south of Aparri, we have si xty a cr es, also,an d a rice crop p lanted the re . A few miles northand east of Estefania is the property a t Baggaowhere we hope to establish th e f irst agr icul tu ra lC hr is ti an H ig h School. This property a t Baggaois particularly rich an d fertile an d we hope to ge ta crop planted there this year.

The Filipino brethren are joyously anticipatingth e o pen ing of .the high schools. They are co nvinced as we a re tha t they vrill mean much to th ew ork of the Lord here . W e need regu lar pledgeds up po rt u nt il a ll th e land is in production an d ableto s upp ort th e high schools; will you be movedto share this great work with us?
