Weekly Newsletter – 09.09.20

Back to School:

We have been delighted to see all of our pupils, as they arrived by year group, this week. Pupils have received our

new school tie and two masks issued by Cardiff Council. Everyone has listened to our important safety talks and our

new behaviour policy has been discussed during form tutor time. For the health and safety of our school community,

it is vitally important that pupils adhere to our new rules. Please discuss these with your child – it is important that

we work together to secure their safety and success.

Lunch:

Thank you for your support in providing your child with a healthy packed lunch. A reminder that our school canteen

will be able to serve pupils from September 14th 2020. Please ensure that you are signed up to Parent Pay before

this. If you have any problems with this, please e-mail [email protected]

Uniform:

A reminder that our high expectations continue and we are grateful for the many of you who are ensuring that your

child is dressed smartly and has their equipment ready to learn every day. The details of our uniform and equipment

can be found on pages 12, 13 and 18 of the Parent Handbook: https://www.willowshigh.co.uk/parent-handbook/

Please note the green Council face coverings are now part of the uniform, no other face coverings should be worn.

If there is a problem regarding uniform, please contact your child’s Welfare Officer by e-mail to explain. Families will

have until October 5th 2020 to straighten out and discuss any issues – from this date, the pupil will be sent home to

rectify the problem if they break the rules.

Week 1

Dualism the view that a human being consists of a body and a separate mind.

Physicalism The view that a person is entirely physical or material.

Religion the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or Gods.

Religious following the beliefs and practices of a religion

Belief an acceptance that something exists or is true, especially one without proof.

Please assist your child by ensuring that they have a quiet space to revise, remove all technology and distractions

and by testing them on the information they have learnt regularly.

2. 10 minutes (average per day) Maths revision through ‘Mathswatch’:

Your child should have a log in to their ‘Mathswatch’ account from their Maths teacher. Ideally, your child should

complete the tasks assigned by their Maths teacher on their laptop or electronic device, not a phone. It is important

that your child works with their teacher and adheres to task deadlines in this important subject.

3. 20 minutes English reading:

It is vital that our pupils build upon their English reading skills to be successful in their GCSE’s and future lives. Pupils

should be encouraged to read independently for 20 minutes every night. If your child struggles with English, please

try to listen to them read as much as possible. Over the coming weeks, all pupils will be taken to the school library to

assess their reading ages and choose a suitable reading book for their ability. Reading ages feature regularly on your

child’s report. Their reading age should be as close to their actual age as possible.

Well-being:

We pride ourselves on our strong pastoral team and the systems we have in place to support pupil well-being.

Attached to this letter is a list of the points of contact to help you contact the relevant person for your child.

We have been very pleased with the attitude of almost all of our

pupils on their return to school. Staff have commented on their

positive experiences and the pupils’ determination to succeed.

We look forward to your continued support and working with you

to aid your child’s progression and character development – the

Willows Way!
