EXAM POINT OF VIEW: GS Prelims and GS-III – Economy
NCDEX will launch tradeable futures contracts on AGRIDEX on receipt of SEBI Approval
National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) has launched India’s first agri index —
‘NCDEX Agridex’, for easy reference to price variations in agricultural commodities.
Launched with a composition of 10 leading liquid contracts on the NCDEX platform at present which
will be tradable after being approved by SEBI
Leading commodities such as guar seed, guar gum, soybean, chana, mustard seed, and jeera, etc, will
be the index’s constituents.
For indices, the NCDEX has partnered with NSE Indices, a leading index service provider, as a third
party, to maintain and disseminate real-time NCDEX Agridex values.
Futures trading on Agridex will enhance overall liquidity on the exchange platform
The NCDEX’s index launch is in continuance with Sebi’s plan to broaden its horizon in commodities
trading through the introduction of a new set of players and products

NCDEX AGRIDEX is India’s first return based agricultural futures Index which tracks the performance of the
ten liquid commodities traded on NCDEX platform. The index represents the basket of ten commodities
which are selected based on the liquidity on exchange platform. The NCDEX AGRIDEX serves as a benchmark
and one can replicate the performance of the underlying commodities. These underlying commodities
contracts are mostly deliverable, settled on spot prices, have circuits governing daily price limits.
Diversity:
To ensure diversification, no related group of commodities (sectors) may constitute more than 40% of the
weightage in the index. Categories for various commodities are as following.

Establishment of SEBI
The Securities and Exchange Board of India was established on April 12, 1992 in accordance with the
provisions of the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act, 1992. Soon SEBI was constituted as the
regulator of capital markets in India under a resolution of the Government of India. SEBI has its
headquarters at the business district of Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai, and has Northern, Eastern,
Southern and Western Regional Offices in New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Ahmedabad respectively. It
has opened local offices at Jaipur and Bangalore and has also opened offices
at Guwahati, Bhubaneshwar, Patna, Kochi and Chandigarh in Financial Year 2013 - 2014.

Controller of Capital Issues was the regulatory authority before SEBI came into existence; it derived
authority from the Capital Issues (Control) Act, 1947.
The SEBI is managed by its members, which consists of following:
The chairman who is nominated by the Union Government of India.
Two members, i.e., Officers from Union Finance Ministry.
One member from the Reserve Bank of India.
The remaining five members are nominated by the Union Government of India, out of them at least
three shall be whole-time members.
After the amendment of 1999, collective investment schemes were brought under SEBI except nidhis,
chit funds and cooperatives.
Ajay Tyagi was appointed chairman on 10 February 2017, replacing U K Sinha, and took charge of the
chairman office on 1 March 2017.

DRDO conducted the first night trial of Agni-II successfully
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)
conducted the first night trial of Agni-II from Dr. Abdul Kalam
Island successfully off Odisha coast. The missile had a strike
range of 2000 km. It was blasted off from a mobile launcher at
the Launch Complex-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR).
Test trial:
The entire trajectory/path of the trial was tracked by telemetry observation stations, a battery of
sophisticated radars, electro-optic instruments, and two naval ships located near the impact point in the
downrange area of Bay of Bengal. The test trial was carried out by the Indian Army's specially
formed Strategic Forces Command (SFC) with logistic support from the Defence Research and
Development Organisation (DRDO).
Agni-II:
♦ Agni-II is a versatile surface-to-surface medium-range nuclear-capable missile
♦ Agni-II is an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) with two solid-fuel stages, and a Post Boost
Vehicle (PBV) integrated into the missile's Re-entry Vehicle (RV).
♦ The strike range of the missile is 2,000 to 3,500 km
♦ Agni-II has been already inducted into the armed forces
♦ The two-stage missile is equipped with advanced high accuracy navigation system.
♦ It was guided by a new method of command and control system
♦ Agni-II missile was developed by Advanced Systems Laboratory along with DRDO laboratories. The
missile was integrated by Bharat Dynamics Limited, Hyderabad.

Bajrang Punia conferred the Indian Personality of the Year Award
Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia has been conferred the Indian
Personality of the Year Award (Sports) at the Indo Arab Leaders
Summit & Awards 2019 in Dubai. Also, World powerlifting
champion Mahant Gaurav Sharma was honoured with the
Visionary Leaders of the Year (Sports) award.

Indo Arab Leaders Summit and Awards ceremony was held on 15th November 2019 at Marriott Hotel
Al Jaddaf, Dubai.
The award aims to provide recognition for companies and individuals implementing outstanding
initiatives across Asia.
The award recognizes the achievements made by selected high profile personalities and leaders. It
honours their great contributions to the country's economic development.
IAAF officially renamed as World Athletics.
The International Association of Athletics
Federations (IAAF) has been officially renamed as World
Athletics. IAAF, the sport's international governing body,
also changed the name of its Twitter handle and the URL of
its official website. The name change had been suggested
in a bid to make the sport more accessible.
International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF):
IAAF was established on 17 July 1912. When it was founded, the name it had was International
Amateur Athletic Federation. It was then changed to the International Association of Athletics
Federations in 2001. The headquarters of IAAF is located in Monaco. IAAF has 215 member
federations. The Current President of IAAF is Sebastian Coe. The CEO of IAAF is Jon
Ridgeon.
