The TM GE LCI drive is ideal for any high powersynchronous motor application for which adjustablespeed operation or soft starting is needed.

Adjustable speed operation allows optimal efficiency(energy saving) and improved process accuracy. Typicaladjustable speed applications include: Compressors for air or petrochemical processes ID fans for coal-fired boilers Grinding mills Rod and bar mills Marine Propulsion

Soft-starting reduces the mechanical stress on the motor and driven equipment as well as eliminating electrical startingsurges on the ac power system. The rating of the starting system depends on the power required to drive the load atsynchronous speed. However, because many driven machines can be arranged for reduced load operation for startingpower rating of the starting equipment can be greatly reduced. An output transformer permits the LCI drive tooperate with any motor voltage. The TM GE LCI drive has a closed transition for synchronizing/de-synchronizingfunction that means no other synchronizing equipment is needed to smoothly start multiple large motors.

The TM GE LCI drives robust power bridge design and long yearsof proven operational reliability make it the ideal solution for yourhigh horsepower compressor applications. One of the newest

applications uses LCIs and electric motors to replace gas turbinedrives to eliminate emissions, reduce noise, reduce maintenanceand increase operational efficiency and control.

Powerful ControlTo A Wide Variety Of Industries

The TM GE LCI has been used to power many types ofgrinding mill applications. It can be used to start multiplemills or function as a dedicated power supply to a mill for

    optimal process control and variability.

Traditional mechanical methods for controlling airflow areinefficient and require considerable maintenance. The TMGE LCI provides more accurate and energy efficient controlof airflow while eliminating the maintenance associatedwith dampers or vanes. Any large fan application, like acement or utility ID fans, will benefit from using the LCIfor controlling its synchronous motor.

In the configuration, start-up, and maintenance olarge drive systems like ship propulsion, a PC-baseprogramming tool is essential. The TM GE LCIutilizes many parts of the TM GE Control SystemToolbox software package. This package is sharedacross a number of drive platforms and results inreduced customer training time.

Drive Commissioning with an Integrated Trend WindowDrive Commissioning with an Integrated Trend Window

For knowledge management inside the LCI, the Control System Toolbox provides animated graphic displays of control logic aswell as an integrated window for the trending of drive and related process variables. This tool features ease of configurationand data analysis.

Define a trend with drag and drop of variables from functionblock diagrams or select variables from a pick list

Conduct online real-time trending with the drive or upload

the capture buffers in the drive for trending. For historicaltrending, define a link with an integrated historian database.

The LCI operation is simple and reliable. It usesload-commutated, phase-controlled power thyristortechnology to supply power to the stator windings of ahigh efficiency synchronous motor.

The power circuit has a source converter, connectedto the power supply and a load converter connectedto the motor. When motoring, power flows from thepower source to the motor. Regeneration is built in,allowing smooth control of loads in all operations.

The LCI controls the motor torque to regulate motorspeed. Motor torque is controlled through the DClink current.

The LCI power converter blocks can be paralleled todeliver ratings in excess of 70,000 HP. Multi-channeloutput gives low harmonics on the motor and givesthe opportunity for single channel operation. ConsultTM GE General Industries for custom systems to meetyour requirements.
