RECOMMENDATION:Staff recommends approval of the purchase of a new non-motor pool replacement

vehicle from Bale Chevrolet, via state contract, in the amount of $23,179 tor covert operations.lf you have any questions, please contact me at extension 500.

BACKGROUND:For over 25 years, the Police Department has maintained non-motor pool vehicles for

covert operations. These vehicles are needed to blend in with normal traffic for surveillance andi nvestigative operations.

DISCUSSION:Typically, used vehicles are purchased for our covert operations; however, State

Contract pricing allows us to periodically purchase a new replacement for the approximate costof a pre-owned vehicle. New vehicles have the benefit of a comprehensive manufacturer'swarranty, latest safety standards, and higher fuel efficiency and lower emissions.

BUDGET/STAFF IMPAGT:This is a scheduled and budgeted purchase. No increase in budget or staffing is

required.
