TKA TIMES Edition 16 Friday 29th January 2016
Head Teacher’s Update Dear Parents/Carers In recent times there has been cause to heighten our readiness to respond to external threats and review our security procedures. Eve-ry school must have such a plan in place and it is good practice to return to this plan on a regular basis to ensure it is fit for purpose and that our community knows the plan and are ready to respond. We will be discussing this plan in greater detail with our pupils and staff so that all are aware of what they are required to do if we need to lock down the site or evacuate to either Fern Hill, Tiffin Girls' or the Hawk-er Centre. We have a reciprocal agreement with these local schools and the YMCA. I would like to return to the matter of homework. It is essential that pupils complete homework and hand this in on the date set by teach-ers. This is an important part of their learning and develops the key skills relating to independent study in preparation for their future. Please continue to actively monitor your child's planner where home-work and deadlines are recorded. We really want to support you and your child in embedding this disciplined approach to the completion of work at home, as this will prove invaluable in time to come. Finally I would like to remind all parents/carers that we are in the mid-dle of a crucial recruitment drive. Please do direct possible candi-dates who you feel would benefit our community and be prepared to embrace our Going Beyond outlook! Kind regards, Sophie Cavanagh

Spotlight on STEM
The BETT (British Educational and Technology) show of 2016, held at Excel centre
last week, was attended by Digital Literacy Lead, Mr Smith, accompanied by our
Chrome Captains Johanna, Rowan and Cameron.

Watch Mr Smith and our Chrome Captains on BETT 2016 TV!
Last week Rowan, Cameron and I went to the BETT event to talk
about Chrome books made by Asus. When we got off the train, we walked towards the grand Excel building where the event was
held. We had an I.D. pass to hang around our necks which had our
name and the stand which we were going to represent. As we proudly walked around the exhibition, we saw many different ex-
hibits and then we finally found the Asus stand. It was big and had
two different sections. We saw many exciting new developments in technology and were proud to show visitors about how we use
Chrome Books and how they help us learn. By Johanna.
