They were crowned April 23 at the Better Elk Horn Club annual banquet. The King and Queen were elected by the community. Both have served and supported the community and neighbors for many years. Representing Tivoli Fest as the 2018 Prince and Princess this year are a brother and sister duo - Prince Dylan Pitzen, age 8, and Princess Chloe Pitzen, age 5. PARADE SATURDAY Beginning at 11 am King & Queen photo by Deb Bieker, Elk Horn; Prince & Princess photos by Museum of Danish America staff Tivoli Fest Opening Ceremonies will be held at the Danish Windmill at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 26. With the help of the local Color Guard, the Tivoli King and Queen will raise the Danish and American flags to the strains of the U.S. and Danish national anthems. Mayor Stan Jens, and Tivoli chairperson Dustin Petersen, will conduct the ceremonies. M&M (Mill to Mermaid) Fun Run/Walk The 5K run begins at the Mill and ends in Kimballton at the Little Mermaid fountain. T-shirts will be given to the winners in each age division. Water and M & M’s will also be available for all participants. All ages are welcome, so come and join in the fun whether you are walking, running or pushing a stroller! Registration is from 7:30-8 am at the Coffee Girl across from the Mill. The fee is $5.00 per person for ages 12 and older. A return shuttle courtesy of Salem Lutheran Home following the race. Tivoli Fest Opening Ceremonies will be held at the Danish Windmill at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 26. With the help of the local Color Guard, the Tivoli King and Queen will raise the Danish and American flags to the strains of the U.S. and Danish national anthems. Mayor Stan Jens, and Tivoli chairperson Dustin Petersen, will conduct the ceremonies.

M&M (Mill to Mermaid) Fun Run/Walk The 5K run begins at the Mill and ends in Kimballton at the Little Mermaid fountain. T-shirts will be given to the winners in each age division. Water and M & M’s will also be available for all participants. All ages are welcome, so come and join in the fun whether you are walking, running or pushing a stroller! Registration is from 7:30-8 am at the Coffee Girl across from the Mill. The fee is $5.00 per person for ages 12 and older. A return shuttle courtesy of Salem Lutheran Home following the race. Call Charley Merrill at 660-247-1367 with questions.

In 2017 Matt Stonie ate 87 Æbleskiver in eight minutes at the First Annual Tivoli Fest World Æbleskiver Eating Championship to set a World Record.

Join us for the 2nd Annual event Saturday, May 26 at 2 p.m. in the Elk Horn Fire Station where once again there will be two rounds of competition. The first round will be the amateur round, in which a select number of amateurs will compete for 5 minutes or who can eat 25 the fastest. $30.00 entry fee, advanced registration.

The second round is the professional round. This round will be comprised of 12 professional eaters on the Major League Eating national circuit, who will have 8 minutes to consume as many Æbleskiver as they can. The grand prize will be $4000 and a possible new world record!

Tour the historic 1848 Danish Windmill celebrating 43 years in America. This majestic mill was built in 1848 in Nørre Snede, Denmark, and brought to America in 1975. It was rebuilt in Elk Horn by community volunteers to honor the area’s strong Danish heritage. Be sure to visit the VikingHjem, Morning Star Chapel, and now the Ebeltoft Village. The Mill just underwent a large restoration project.

Viking encampmentViking Encampment ongoing throughout the day on the Viking Grounds and at the Viking-Hjem. The VikingHjem demonstrates a typical structure used throughout Scandinavia and Northern Europe during the latter Dark Ages to the early Middle ages. You can experience the life of a Viking Smithy in 900 A.D. from the blacksmith shop and woodworking area to the demonstrations and lectures.

A 26.2 mile ride through the Iowa countryside hosted by Shelby County Trails. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. Sunday on the Danish Windmill grounds, 4038 Main Street, Elk Horn. Offi cial start of the ride is 9 a.m., rain or shine! Plenty of parking is available and restrooms are available inside the Windmill. The Tour ends back in Elk Horn where you can enjoy Tivoli Fest entertainment. $25 Registration Fee includes a T-shirt, Refreshments and Tivoli Fest Entertainment. A $15 Registration Fee includes everything mentioned above, except the t-shirt. Registration day of ride will be $20 NO t-shirt available.
