Fast has a signicant value both in the spiritual and temporalspheres. In order to attain self purication almost all major
religions of the world encourage their followers to observe fast.
Political fast is not uncommon in our country. Gandhiji fasted on
many occasions for varied reasons to stop communal violence,
to convey political messages to the masses, to achieve a political
goal and to attain slef purication. The socalled SADBHAVANA
FAST undertaken by the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi
does not fall on any of the above category. Instead it is a showbaji
fast(Publicity fast).
The so called growth of Gujarat under Chief Ministership of
modi pales in to insignicance before his mountain of misdeeds
including the horric 2002 communal carnage. During the dark
days of communal riots hundreds of innocents muslims were
butchered, homes were burned down, muslim girls were rapped
in front of their parents, unborn babies were knifed out from the
wombs of pregnant muslim women, properties worth millions
were destroyed, mosque, madrassas, muslim institutions were
demolished and hundreds of muslim villages were razed to the
ground. One can smell the stink of blood wherever Modi goes
including inside the Exhibition Hall of Gujarat University, the
venue of his SADBHAVANA FAST.
Did Modi ever own the moral responsibility for the happenings in
his state? Did he repent for his past sins? Did he repair or rebuild
the demolished mosques, madrassas and muslim educational
institutions? Did he ever attempt to assuage the feelings of the
affected? Did he rehabilitate the riot victims? Let him come clean
rst and then fast. In that case we are ready to welcome his fast
for maintaining communal peace and harmony. The Tamilnadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaas support for Modis
fast is no wonder considering her past acts of commissions -
her partys participation in Ram Mandir Karseva, her aversion to
reservation for muslims, her constant support to Modi-birds of
same feather ock together. The Dravidian Leader Dr.Kalaignar
Karunanidhi on the other hand has rightly stated that Modis past
actions cannot be forgotten.
The difference between 2002 Modi (Riot Modi) and 2011 Modi
(fasting Modi) is not much- the 2002 wolf has come out under
the garb of sheep in 2011.Modis political gimmick is nothing but
a cheap publicity ploy to distract attention from his present and
past misdeeds.
Holy QuranSpeaks
Mankind was one single
nation, and Allah sent
Messengers with glad tidings
and warnings; and with them
He sent the Book in truth,
to judge between people in
matters wherein they differed;
but the People of the Book,
after the clear Signs came tothem, did not differ among
themselves, except through
selsh contumacy. Allah by
His Grace Guided the believers
to the Truth, concerning that
wherein they differed. For Allah
guided whom He will to a path
that is straight.
(Quran 2: 213 )
Sayings of Prophet
Muhammed (Sal)Acquire knowledge, because
he who acquires it, in the way
of the Lord, performs an act of
piety; who speaks of it praises
the Lord; who seeks it, adores
God, who dispenses instruction
in it, bestows alms; and who
imparts it to its tting objects,
performs an act of devotion to
God. Knowledge enables its
possessor to distinguish what
is forbidden from what is not;lights the way to Heaven; it
is our friend in the desert,
our companion in solitude,
our companion, when bereft
of friends riends; it guides us
to happiness; it sustains us
in misery; it is our ornament
in the company of friends; it
serves as an armor against our
enemies. With knowledge the
creatures of Allah rises to the
heights of goodness and to
noble position, associates withthe sovereigns in this world
and attains the perfection of
happiness in the next.

IUML TAMILNADU
Political Advisory Committee ResolutionsThe political advisory committee of the Tamilnadu IUML met on
20th September 2011 at the party headquarters Chennai under the
presidentship of party leader Prof: K.M.Khader Mohideen. The partyGeneral Secretary welcomed the PAC members. The party president
Prof:K.M.Khader Mohideen highlighted various issues that require partys
attention and action. After a detailed discussion the PAC adopted the
following resolutions.
1.Local body election
The PAC resolves to authorize the panjayath, town, municipal and
corporation primaries to select the prospective candidates to contest the
local body election. The PAC authorizes the district league to select the
winning wards and ask the district league to send the selected wardsand candidates to the state leadership. The PAC delegates power to the
local primaries to have seat adjustments with the willing political parties.
The district presidents are authorized to sign the B-Forms.
2.Trichy Bi-election
The PAC resolves to support the DMK candidates in the Trichy Bi-
election.
3. Condemns the unilateral action of theGovernment
It is an accepted normal practice to reserve the separate constituencies
for women every ten year following a rotation process. However this
time the normal practice is done away with. Against this normal practice
this time the election commission has announced the women reserved
constituencies just after the expiry of ve years.
The muslim majority wards in Kayalpatinam,Keelakkarai,Kadayan
allur,Thengashi,Deva Kottai,Ambur and Gudiyatham are reserved for
women. Further the muslim majority constituencies in Kunnur, Pernam
but,Ranipet,Kuthanallur are reserved for scheduled caste. The unilateral
announcement made by the Tamil Nadu Government has shocked the
muslim community. The PAC appeals the State Government to reconsider
its decision.
4.Remove the imaginary portraits of prophet andcaliphs from the urdu text books
The publishing of imaginary portraits of prophet Yousuf, Hazarath
Umar,Hazarat Ali and Imam Abu Hanifa has wounded the sentiments of
the muslim community. This imaginary portraits should be removed from
the textbook forthwith.Necessary action should be initiated against the
ofcials responsible for this act.
5.Fund rasing
The PAC acknowledges and agrees with the suggestions made by the
PAC member M.S Thurabsha to raise the fund for IUML and resolves to
constitute committee for the same.
The party President Prof: K.M.Khader Mohideen had a press meeting
in the evening. He answered the volley of questions asked by the presspeople. He enlightened the contents of resolutions passed in the PAC. To
a query about the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modis fast, he said we
would have welcomed the fast had Modi mended his past missdeads. He
disapproved the Tamilnadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaas action to send
her party representatives to participate in the Modis fasting. The newly
elected party Treasurer M.S.A Shahjahan proposed vote of thanks.
Sayhan Vernon, 32, decided toconvert Islam in 2010 after being
brought up in a Christian home
and then being an atheist for a
number of years.
Ive never been content with
other peoples explanations or
another way I could say it: I was
guided by Allah, said Mr Vernon.
Mr Vernon described his rst
Ramadan as an achievement.
He said: Its been testing but allin quite a positive way - Ive done
enough research to know its not
all about doing without food.
Its also about yourself and
A Worcester man has been reecting on the experience of observinghis rst Ramadan as a recently converted Muslimthe way you see yourself, being
nicer in general to other people
and focussing a lot more on your
religion.
Theres a real sense of
achievement at the end of it all.
Discipline
Mr Vernon, who is now engaged
to another Muslim, attends the
Tallow Hill mosque in Worcester.
Last year, he observed prayers
and also read a lot during themonth of Ramadan.
I also I did all the fasting but the
difference this year is (there was)
a lot more self reection religiously
Fasting means no liquids and no
food and Mr Vernon said last year
he also quit smoking on the rst
day of Ramadan.
He said he found maintaining a
job while fasting was challenging.
I was breaking fast very late and
getting up extremely early - I got
quite irritable.
Observing at home and at
mosque is easier to do but at work
you seem to get distracted - it doestake a bit of discipline but it does
seem more spiritual.
Its not easy but I think the
benets overtake anything else.
and going to the mosque and
breaking fast with fellow Muslims,
he said.
The Islam calendar is divided
into lunar months and Ramadan
falls in the ninth.

Solution to worldproblems possible
through ijtehad onlyChairman of Institute of Objective Studies (IOS),
Dr. Manzoor Alam said while talking to mediapersons that the
solution to challenges and problems being faced by the world
can be found through deep study of Quran and Hadith, and
this is possible only through ijtehad i.e., proper interpretation
of Quranic commands, verses etc. but, he said, in todays times
of knowledge explosion this task can be better performed by
collective efforts, rather than by individual efforts. He said that
God has not made the world static but mutative and changing
and consequently, with changing times, new problems and
requirements also crop up and will continue to crop up. Now
we cannot approach any prophet to seek guidance or solution
of our problems and difculties but yes, solutions lie in Quran
and Hadiths of Prophet (Peace be upon him) which can be found
by deeply studying and correctly understanding them. He said
that in todays world science and knowledge have become so
exhaustive and complicated that it is not possible for a single
intellectual or scholar to master all elds of knowledge. Hence
the intellectuals, ulama and experts should jointly perform the
task of ijtehaad. It should be claried in this connection that
ijtehaad too should be within the framework of Quran and
hadiths, and not beyond their scope. In reply to a question as
to how unanimous ijtehaad is possible when even on minor
matters ulama and intellectuals seldom are unanimous and all
hold different views, Dr. Alam said that conditions are changing
and now ulama and intellectuals of different schools of thought
have started coming together on one platform. Western
educated people of modern outlook are developing the feeling
of understanding religion and ulama too want to know and
understand modern sciences. He further said that efforts being
made by IOS in this connection have started bearing fruits. He
said IOS which has completed 25 years of its existence, had
organised an international conference on ijtehaad in its early
years. He also said that Islam does not preach intellectual,
physical, economic, social, educational, national, international
or any other kind of slavery and considers man as the best
and greatest of all Gods creations and men of the faith have
been given the responsibility of liberating man of all kinds of
slavery and present an alternative system under which every
one should be able to decide whether he should lead his life
according to the principles ordained by God or in his own
misguided ways.
About his organisation, Alam said that IOS which was started
on 13 April 1986 has now developed into a towering tree and in
view of the review and research work it has done and is doing
in different elds of life, it can undoubtedly be considered a
valuable asset of the community and nation. He said that the
information provided by IOS to Sachar Committee had played
an important role in the preparation of its report. In addition to
this, he said, bringing together ulama, experts and intellectuals
on a single platform and laying down future strategy and action
programme has been its fundamental objective.

In Tamilnadu every political

Commender, the IUML in
Tamilnadu nds its Thalapathi in
the young K.A.M Abubacker. When
many present ofce bearers of the

faulted and altered their loyalty,
K.A.M Abubacker followed the
IUML leadership right from Sirajul
Millath A.K.A Abdul Samad Sahib
down to the present leadership
Muneerul Millath Prof: K.M KhaderMohideen with unswering loyalty

in the treacherous political eld. He

valuable diamond. By his hardwork,
total commitment and dedication,
he has endeared himself to
the Party National President
E.Ahamed and the State President
Prof. K.M.Khader Mohideen. He is
fondly called by his colleagues in
the party as YOUNG THALAPTHI.
The party leadership always
esteems his valuable service and
often talks high of him in private
and public.
Abubacker belongs to Kayalpati
nam in Tuticorin district, Tamilnadu,
a cultural and commercial center
of Tamil muslims. He hails from an
illustrious family whose ancestry
has links with Egyptian Arabs.
His Arab origin can be guessed
from his glowing red face with
charactrastic, Arab Sheik style well
trimmed short beard on his lower jaw. His family had a lucrative
diamond trade in many countries
of the world, but it did not charm
the young Abubacker who left the
trade and landed in the humble
house of service in the IUML. He
had his schooling in Mohideen
Matric Higher Secondary School
in Kayalpatinam, which was
inaugurated by the IUML Leader
and then the Chief Minister of
Kerala C.H. Mohamed Koya is to be
noted. He is a B.Sc., (Chemistry)
graduate from Chennai New Collegeand he never lags behind in his
temporal and religious duties. His
sweet pleasant brief conversation,
his happy companionship, his
congenial temperament, his
adoptability to adverse situation,
his quick judgement of the people,
his etiquette and his equanimity
are all his plus points in the
muslim politics. K.A.M Abubacker
spends most of his times with
the IUML headquarters Quaid-E-

Secretary of the party is always
seen perched on his seat in the

comment is far from the truth and
the General Secretary Abubacker

Bidar is a historic town in
Southern India and has a host of
historical monuments.
Though located in Karnataka,
the district borders Andhra Pradesh
and is quite close to Maharashtra.
As a result, Urdu, Marathi and
Kannada are the major languages
spoken here. It has been ruled by
Chalukyas, Kakatiyas, then Hasan
Gangu and Bahmani Sultans until
it became a dominion of the Asif
Jahi dynasty--under the Nizam of
Hyderabad--till independence.
The chaubara is basically a
watch tower cum clock tower. In
olden days, from its top one could
get a view of the entire town. The
imposing cylindrical tower in the
heart of the town attracts the new
comes to the town. More so, as it
is not much known outside.
Though Bidar has no dearth of
historical monuments including

efforts to clear encroachments around, no
serious step has been taken to preserve this

Located just around 120 km from Hyderabad,
Bidars language also has a Deccani inuence.
The place is also well-known for the Bidri work.

Temple constructed by AurangzebMughal Emperor Aurangzeb had constructed a huge temple in
Chitrakut (Uttar Pradesh) and made arrangement for the bhog at this
temple for generations. Many historians consider Aurangzeb as the
most bigot emperor.
However, the old arrangement continues till date. Nearly 323 years
back Aurangzeb Alamgir had issued a rman as per which 8 villages
(330 bighas of land) were allotted for the upkeep of the temple besides
Re 1 every day from the government fund.
Mahant Balram Das of the temple is in possession of the rmaan
that was written on brass plate and issued on 19th of Islamic month
of Ramzan. As per the decree Sant Balak Das of Allahabads Kalinjar
parganas Chitrakoot was given 330 bighas of land without any lagaan.
The temple is now in a poor state despite enormous funds at the
disposal. The discord amongst Mahants has led to the situation, say
locals.
Interestingly, Aurangzeb had not only got the temple constructed but
also wrote the order of rajbhog, himself. The land adjoining the Balaji
temple has been encroached by musclemen and the inghting amongst
the temple committee has hit the structure, which is crumbling, says
the District Magistrate, Chitrakot.

Sachar
Recommendations
put in Ice-Box
Sachar Panel Members fear that
their recommendations suggestedby the Sachar Committee to uplift
Muslims on social, educational
and economic fronts may not get
implemented because of lack of
will on the part of the Government
and the procedures followed to
implement it.
Almost ve years have passed
by after the Sachar Committee
submitted its over view on the
plight of Muslims but nothing
seems to have been done
substantially on the groundtowards implementing Sachars
Recommendations. Justice Sachar
who was instrumental in drafting
the report, is hurt to nd that
the government once praised for
setting up the committee in the year
2005 has so far failed to implement
its main recommendations has
suggested by the committee. The
Syeda Hameed, Planning Commi
ssion Member has been given
the responsibility to monitor the
implementation of the report a
couple of months ago . Surprisingly
the Monitoring Committee has met
only once.
Dr.Rakesh Basant who is an
economist believes that the
decision of the government to
make minority affairs ministry a
nodal agency in implementing the
recommendations was a mistake
as most of the programmes are
meant for all under privileged
groups including Muslims and for
that matter a general ministry
like home or nance could serve
the purpose in amore effective
manner. Shariff is of the view that
Ministry of Finance has to make
sure that Muslims businesses canavail loans easily without any
hassle. He further questioned as to
how Muslims in need of loans can
look forward towards the National
Minority Development Fund.
Another report nds that Public
sector banks have failed to comply
with the goverments order aimed
to improve the economic condition
of the Muslims by increasing
the share of lending to minority
communities to 15% of priority
sector loans by March 2011. Itreveals that the problem faced by
an individual to get loans from the
concern department because of
lack of will to facilitate a smooth
transaction.

unless the local governments are

not the words of some human

retired admiral and former Director
of National Intelligence Dennis
Blair-the man who was until, recently nominally in charge of
the entire American effort to nd,
track, and take out terrorists. Now,
he is calling for that campaign to
be reconsiderd,and possibly even
junked.
Starting with the drone attacks.
Yes, the take out some mid-level
terrorists, Blair said. But they are
not strategically effective. If the
drones stopped ying tomorrow,
Blair told the audience at the Aspen
Security Forum, It is not going
to lower the threat to the U.S. Al-
Qaida and its allies hane proven
It can sustain its level of resistance
to an air-only campaign,he said.
He noted that the U.S. intelli
gence and home land security
communities are spending about
$ 80 billion a year, out side of
Afganistan and Pakistan. Yet
Al-Qaida and its afliates only have
about 4000 members world wide.
That is $ 20 million per terrorist
per year, Blair pointed out.
Blair mentioned that 17 Americans have been killed on U.S. soil
by terrorists since 9/11- 14 of
them in the Ft.Hood massacre.
Meanwhile, auto accidents, mur
ders and rapes combined have
killed an estimated 1.5 million
people in the past decade. what
is it that justies this amount of
money on this narrow problem?
The study, of 123 middle aged
and older adults found that those
who added yoga classes to standard
diabetes care shed a handful of
pounds over three months . Mean-
while, their average blood sugar
levels held steady in contrast tothe non-yoga- practicing
control group, whose blood
sugar levels rose.
The ndings, reported in the
journal Diabetes Care, do not
suggest that yoga should replace
other forms of exercise for people
with type 2 diabetes a disease
commonly associate with obesity.
To really lose weight and rein
in blood sugar, more vigorous
exercise would work better, accor
ding to Shree Laxmi V.Hegde of

In our study the effect of yoga
on BMI (body mass index) and
blood sugar control was marginal,
said Hegde, the lead researcher on
the study.
But, she added, it should be
noted that yoga controlled the
blood sugar levels which otherwise
rose in the control group.
In addition to that, the study
found , signs of so-called oxidative
stress declined in the yoga group.

as to extract more funds from the

Abusaleh shariff another Panel

that the government instead of

10THE TIMES OF LEAGUE
September - 2011
The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has decided to stick to its
demand for a fth slot in the Oommen Chandy Cabinet, but resolved
to put the controversy over its choice of the Vice-Chancellorship of theUniversity of Calicut behind it by withdrawing its original nominee.
The State secretariat of the IUML, which met here on Sunday, decided to
remain rm on its demand for a fth Ministerial berth in the government,
but without setting any time limit for achieving the partys demand. The
party secretariat left it to the Chief Minister and the United Democratic
Front (UDF) leadership to take a nal decision on the matter.
The IUML demand also got a boost with Kerala Congress (M) chairman
and Finance Minister K.M. Mani telling reporters in New Delhi on Sunday
that his party had no objection to the IUML being given an additional
Cabinet berth. The party had hoped to get one more Ministerial berth.
However, now that it had been given the Chief Whips post, there was
no question of his party raising any further demand, Mr. Mani said.
Clarifying the party stand on the issue, IUML State unit general secretary
E.T. Mohammed Basheer said, We have not set any time limit for
consideration of our demand.
Referring to the controversy over the partys choice for Vice-
Chancellorship, Mr. Basheer said the party was seriously concerned
about the controversy following misleading reports that appeared in a
section of the press about the issue, which he said had nothing to do
with facts. The IUML Legislature Party leader and the Education Minister had
been asked to propose an academically competent person for the post,
Mr. Basheer said. The IUML had reportedly suggested the name of V.P.
Abdul Hameed, a retired schoolteacher, for the post.
Monday night and Tuesday, Aug-29-30, three international heavyweights - Russia, the Europ ean Union and key Muslim nations gave
Syrian President Bashar Assad tough ultimatums for ending his ferocious
crackdown on protest.Nevertheless, on Monday, his troops shot dead 17 people in Syrian
cities - even as he received Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail
Bogdanov who arrived in Damascus with a last warning from President
Dmitry Medvedev: Recall you soldiers to their bases immediately and
implement changes or Moscow will endorse UN Security Council sanctions
stiff enough to stie the Syrian economy.
Those sanctions are only a step away from a resolution authorizing
NATO, together with Muslim and Arab nations, to intervene militarily in
the Syrian crisis.
debkales military and intelli gence sources disclose that Turkey, as
a NATO member, and Saudi Arabia, on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation
Council, have been in discussions this past week on the form this
intervention would take:
1. The long-considered Turkish plan to send troops into northern
Syria and carve out a military pocket from which Syrias rebels would be
supplied with military, logistic and medical aid.
2. Ankara and Riyadh will provide the anti-Assad movements with
large quantities of weapons and funds to be smuggled in from outside
Syria.
3. The Turkish military incursion would be matched by Saudi troops
entering southern Syria at the head of GCC contingents. They would
move in via Jordan and establish a second military enclave under GCC
auspices.
The third option came up in Tehran last Thursday, Aug. 25, when
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad heard some straight talk from
the visiting Emir of Qatar Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani.
debkales exclusive Iranian sources reveal that the Qatari rulerslapped down a blunt warning: Assad was nished, he said, and advised
Iran to face up to this. For the sake of even minimal relations with
the Arab world, Iran must ditch the Assad regime in Damascus or face
the real danger of the Syrian crisis deteriorating into a regional conict
whether against Syria or by Syria, he did not explain.
Ahmadinejad turned the emir down at, according to our sources. He
said Iran would never renege on its pact with Assad.
Two days later, our military sources report, Syria deployed 25 anti-air
missile batteries along its Turkish border.
In Brussels, Monday, the 27-member European Union bowed toWashingtons demand and nally decided to corner Assad by clamping
down an embargo on imported Syrian crude.
Europe is the biggest buyer of Syrian oil, importing $ 4.5 billion worth
a year. This provides Syria with its main source of foreign currency
revenue and the primary funding for Assads military operations against
dissidents.
Once this source dries up, the Syrian ruler will be forced to cut down
on those operations unless Iran is willing to make up the difference.
Assad is sure to appreciate that the coalition lining up against him of
the US, Europe, Turkey, the Gulf Arab nations and Russia, are almost
identical to the alignment (barring Moscow) which has just overthrown
Muammar Qaddas regime in Tripoli.
He and his advisers have no doubt discussed the possibility of being
at the receiving end of the same treatment.Their rulers growing isolation and the real prospect of international
punitive measures have given the opposition new heart after nearly six
months of standing up to a deadly crackdown: Saturday, Aug. 27 Assad
saw his own capital rallying against him with big demonstrations in
central Damascus. The pressure from the street continued to build up
through Sunday and Monday, some of the protesters venturing to hoist
the old Syrian Republican ag instead of the Baathist version introduced
by the Assads.
Aleppo is now the only Syrian city which has not so far come out
against the regime. Tuesday morning, while Assad attended an Eid al-
Fitr worship at a Damascus mosque, his soldiers sprayed demonstrators
in the eastern town of Deir al-Zour with bullets.
Well-informed military sources warn that Assad will not be cowed by
the international, military and economic noose tightening around his
neck. He is far more likely to try and loosen it by lashing out against his
enemies, starting with Israel. Iran will certainly be a willing supporter of
such belligerence, starting a war which could spread like wildre across
the region.
Assad may opt for war to escape Russian,Arab, European ultimatums

THE TIMES OF LEAGUE11
September - 2011
We as a nation would beproudly celebrating the 64th
Independence of our countryduring this month. On this historic
occasion, Indians at every forum
try to recall the sacrices made by
the freedom ghters from all walks
of Life. But unfortunately, because
of our narrow approach and a
prejudiced view, not all people are
equally highlighted in the history
and even in todays media. Our
unfair historians have given an
impression that Muslim community
has not contributed much to thefreedom struggle. Hence let us
turn back to the pages of history to
nd out the truth, about sacrices
of our Muslim revolutionaries.
How many Indians today
know Khan Abdul Ghaffar
Khan (Frontier Gandhi) a great
nationalist who spent 45 years of
his life in jail for the freedom of
India. Let us also recall the sacrice
of Barkatullah of Bhopal, one of
the founders of Ghadar party,
who created a network of anti-
British organizations and who died
penniless in Germany in 1927.
Syed Rahmath Shah of
Ghader party, who worked as
an underground revolutionary in
France was hanged for his part in
the unsuccessful Ghadar uprising
in 1915.
Ali Ahmed Siddiqui of Faizabad
(Uttar Pradesh) who planned the
Indian Mutiny in Malaya and
Burma was hanged in 1917.
Umar Subhani an industrialist
and a millionaire of Bombay
who presented blank cheque to
Gandhiji for congress expenses
and who ultimately gave his life for
the cause of independence.
Mohammed Basheer, Khuda
Baksh, A Zakaria, Allah Nawaz,
Abdul Aziz, and tens of thousands
of such revolutionaries have
been ignored, The History book
Qaiseral Tawarikh mentions thenumber of Muslims executed in
Delhi alone during 1857-58 was
27000, excluding those killed in
general massacre.
What price Freedom?By Habibulla Khan
Some of our historians have
made allegations that Muslims
in general have a tendency of
separatism and do not love India
as their mother land. The answer to
this is our own TIGER of Mysore
Tippu Sultan who died in the battle
eld defending his own country.
At a time when most of the
Indian rulers were incapable of
understanding the consequences of
the rise of British, Tippu Sultan haddeveloped a world consciousness.
He had sent envoys to turkey in
1784-85 to France in1787-88, to
Zaman shah of Afghanistan in 1876
and in 1799 which was intercepted
by British.
Tippu Sultan was a champion
of Hindu- Muslim unity. The
archaeological Department of
the Government of Mysore still
preserves his thirty letters written
to Shankarcharya of Shringeri
Mutt, a great saint of his time,
reverentially begging to him to
return to his state and pray for
his success in ghting against the
foreigners.
Dr. R.C. Majundar says of all the
Indian ruling princess of this period,
Hyder Ali and his son Tippu Sultan
were the most uncompromising
opponents of the growth of British
Political power
Gandhiji in one of his articles
calls Tippu as a greatest martyr of
Indian freedom.
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad in
one of his foreword writes. The
revolt against British scarcely had
any tinge of communalism, in their
struggle for freedom both Hindusand Muslims stood shoulder to
shoulder with the single object
of liberating themselves from the
British oppression.
During the rst independence
revolt of 1857, in Kanpur region,
it was Nana Sahib and Azimullah
who raised the banner of revolt.
In Delhi, during the same period,
Moulana Fazl-e-Haq Khairabadi
who was an inuential Moulvi,
had addressed a congregation of
Muslims in Jamia Masjid and gave
a Fatwa (religious decree) to ght
the British. When the revolt against
British in Delhi was defeated,
one of the British ofcers wrote
Hundreds of Ulema were blown
by cannons while thousands were
hanged and others deported to
Andaman Island. Among the rst
batch of persons to arrive at the
Andaman were well-known Moulvis
like Mufti Mazhar Kareem of Delhi
and Munshi Inayat Ahamed of
Lucknow.
These are just a few instances
I have quoted which is just a tip
of the iceberg from the pages
of History. Now I would like to
put forth a few questions to our
learned critics, biased historians,
and intellectuals the following.
a) Are these facts not enough
to acknowledge that Muslims have
equally contributed to the freedom
struggle?
b) Just by closing the eyes, do
they think, they can change the
facts of history?
c) Are we really following the
principles of secularism by ignoring
a particular section whereas
highlighting the other sections?
d) Is this not the path of
Divide & Rule policy which was
followed by British tyrants who in
turn destroyed the original Indian
culture of mutual respect?
e) Is this tendency of hatred
not dangerous to the future of this
country?
f) Are these so-called Intellectuals not interested to see this
country progress and prosper as a
single nation?
g) Have they forgotten our own
mantra of Unity in Diversity?
Finally, let us all sit together with
an unbiased mind and agree that all
sections have equally contributed
to the freedom of this country.
Let good sense prevail and we
appeal to all our like minded, right
thinking citizens to come forwardand prove these critics wrong.
Let us nally pray that God give
the right guidance and wisdom
to all Indians and let this country
progress and prosper to become
one of the greatest nations of the
world.
