Book Week Activities Book Week saw many activities around the school, the highlight of course being our dress up parade. Again, it was wonderful to see the children in their colourful costumes, celebrating this years theme, Reading Is My Superpower. Thankyou to the many family members who also came along in support. The parade was followed up by Housemates activities where children enjoyed activities in relation to this years book titles and a sausage sizzle lunch. We were lucky enough also to enjoy a visit by author and illustrator Susan Berran who ran sessions across the school on Tuesday. The children loved hearing her stories about what inspires her writing and taking part in some illustration activities. Junior School Council Last month, we welcomed our Junior School Councillors to our monthly School Council Meeting. We enjoyed hearing their formal report about their role and the many tasks and activities they have undertaken throughout the year so far. It was also an opportunity for JSC members to participate in a formal meeting and gain some insights into how our Council operates. The students had many probing and interesting questions for Council and it was great to see them take on a keen interest. Thankyou to Eliot Lee, Chloe McCracken, Casey Dowal, Ben Jeal and Lily McMonagle who represented the 2019 JSC. Save The Date—Sunbury West On Show Sunbury West On Show will be on Thursday 24th October. From 5.00pm—7.30pm. As in previous years, it’s an opportunity for parents to come along and see the types of learning that takes place within the classroom and beyond. More details will be available in the next newsletter.

Prep

The Preps were fantastic in their hosting of Assembly on August 26th! They put lots of practice into singing the National Anthem and the School Promise. They also performed 'We're going to the zoo' to get them excited about their upcoming trip to the Werribee Zoo!

Prep

Finally, the Preps got to get on the big bus and go to the Werribee Zoo! They saw lots of animals including gorillas, cheetahs, lions, wild dogs and monkeys. They did the Habitat Heroes program, where they met a small animal called a Potoroo, saw some wallabies and explored using magnifying glasses to see small insects. Lastly, they got to go on the Safari Bus! They saw animals that lived on the African Savannah including zebras, giraffes, rhinoceros and ostriches. The Preps had a wonderful day seeing the animals in their habitats and learning new facts about them.

Prep Zoo excursion continued……….

BOOK WEEK 2019

The Preps were busy during Book Week too! They read all the short listed books for 2019 and did some activities. They loved dressing as their favourite book character or a superhero for the theme 'Reading is my Superpower!'

Grade 1/2

STEAM - Can your boat float?

The Grade 1/2 students have been investigating different toys and how push and pull forc-

es affect how toys move. The students were given a STEAM challenge where they had ma-

terials and had to create a floating device that could hold ten marbles. They predicted

which items would float and sink and were allowed to test these theories in a tub of water.

They worked in small teams to design and build their flotation device and placed them in

the water for the big test. The students followed up this activity by discussing what was

successful and unsuccessful in their designs.

TOO MANY TOYS INCURSION

To complement our Inquiry topic this term, the children in Grade 1 and 2

attended an incursion called ‘Too Many Toys’ last Tuesday 4th September.

The children had a wonderful time and were an enthusiastic audience! The

performance included fun, hilarious laughter, music, dancing and roles for

the children to play. The performance followed the plight of Danny, a boy

who had too many toys. When his dad asks him to clean up his room and

get rid of some of his toys Danny must decide which toys to keep and

which ones to give away. With help from the audience Danny comes to

realise the qualities of his much loved toys.
