The protagonist of modern lifestyle, it has become a hallmark in the world of design. The light feeling especially conveyed by the essential design of the “inverted “L”- shaped feet, along with a single seat-cushion and a series of free cushions placed on the backrest is the distinctive feature of a sofa that has met with boundless success. The airy shape and simple profile make it, almost by contrast, extremely rich and innovative from a spatial standpoint, a system that encourages the creation of ever new compositions. Charles includes an extensive family of elements that can meet every furnishing requirement, even the most personal demand for comfort.

The concept behind the Charles is to have a high seat modular sofa with all the elements available in different forms, types and sizes. Linear and corner compositions have been developed with these elements in mind, especially for the chaise lounge end units. The Charles’ peninsula-style compositions look especially beautiful as the centerpiece of a room. The single-seat cushion, the free pillows placed on the backrest and the pure lines of the die-cast aluminium feet give the Charles sofa a decidedly modern feel.

Patricia Urquiola has designed a surprising series of seats that transform the traditional concept of the sofa. She has named the product Bend-Sofa due to its curvaceous albeit monolithic form. It gives the appearance of being manually moulded from a supple material as if by a sculptor. In practice, it’s made from a study of 3-D models and digital research. Bend-Sofa effectively conveys the idea of motion by alternating full and empty spaces. Contrasting stitchings add to the intrinsic design on the surface. The backrest is irregularly shaped, but without compromising comfort. Curved modules - assembled starting with the seats, ottoman and corner elements - form a sofa that breaks out of the usual visual schemes and differentiates from other contemporary pieces on account of its calculated eccentricity.

The name recalls the butterfly because, as explained by the author, “the backrest designs the two wings with the head resting between them and protected by them.” It seems carved out of a block of material from which its inverted truncated cone shape is derived. With a powerful personality, its swivel system facilitates contact with the surrounding environment. The chair includes an ottoman footrest for an absolutely relaxing position.

The J.J. family presents armchairs with a different look and a wide variety of materials: with a steel-rod structure supporting a wooden frame, they convey a certain degree of lightness. Entirely made of thermo-treated ash wood, they hint at traditional aesthetics. The armchair fitted with a sleigh, the expression of the traditional rocking chair, becomes even more glamorous when it is attired in long-haired Mongolian lamb fur.

The seat that flows uninterruptedly into the armrests is the hallmark of this relaxation chair. The armchair that swivels has a matching ottoman and features a comfortable headrest with magnetic adjustment. Through this program it is available with an aluminium four spoke base.

Designed for those who love comfort and modernity, intended to be an evergreen, the Michel seating system mirrors the design philosophy of its author who shows a preference for simple shapes - pure and elegant in their linear form without any additional decoration to underscore the concept of function. The many elements can create both formal and social configurations in an extensive range of sizes.

If the wings of Grande Papilio protect the head of the user, those of Piccola Papilio support the back, creating a seat that, despite the small size, precisely responds to the demand for comfort. The truncated cone shape is unchanged, and there is always a zip on the rear of the backrest. It can fit into small rooms or even be arranged in a row. It has a swivel system.

A successful design strategy that achieves a balance of functional and aesthetic features, and entrusts the details to the right role: the seating system Ray is designed for a long life. Modular, available in two depths, with an extensive compositional range that includes linear and corner elements, chaise longue and ottoman. It stands out due to the tailoring detail of the blanket stitch that runs along the profiles of the cover, both in tonal and in contrasting hues.

The Up Series was designed in 1969 and has remained an iconic design piece within the B&B Italia collection for more than 40 years. The Up5 chair, known for its striking representation of feminine strength and struggle, continues to be meaningful and relevant. It reflects a world sensibility with symbolism, irony, beauty and is truly the epitome of a timeless design.

The Tulip is a 360-degree swivel armchair with remarkably flexible use, highlighted by a well-balanced proportion between its thickness and the intersections of straight lines and curves. The polished brushed aluminium supporting disc reflects part ofthe frame, thus emphasising the chair’s roundness. Two cuts carved into the backrest and a soft seat cushion make the chair cosy and comfortable.

Now available in American King and Queen sizes, the Charles bed conserves the classic “inverted-L” shaped aluminium feet that are the distinguishing trait of the entire product family. The Charles uses a pressed and curved beechwood slatted base to provide independent support for continued comfort.

From the very first glance its airy image is striking with the projecting base that defines the entire perimeter of the bed and which, at the back, becomes a convenient surface to place books and accessories. The backrest is inclined to offer an ideal relaxing position. Impressive from behind, it can even be placed at the centre of the room. It is available in American King and Queen sizes.

Athos ’12 has two lengths, both in the fixed and extendable version, that can seat up to twelve people by using a concealed mechanism. The V-shaped metal frame supports a thick top that is softened by rounded edges created with a complex milling procedure that maintains a uniform grain on the entire surface. Through this program it is available equipped with a system for lengthening the tabletop, with smoked oak top and black chromed steel frame.

COVERS AND WOODS

LEATHER The skins selected by B&B Italia are obtained from European-bred calves. They are the best possible product for furnishings available throughout the world. The entire processing system is aimed at preserving the exceptional natural features of leather, including certain anomalies produced by the life of the animal, such as scars, abrasions, insect bites, etc. These characteristics are the tangible proof of the natural origin of the product and are the features that attest to the great quality of the leather. B&B Italia leathers are chrome-tanned and aniline-dyed; treatments that help preserve the natural qualities of the product. The exclusive tanning process allows us to obtain leather with an unmistakable softness that is very pleasing to the touch.

WOOD: A heritage to be protectedThe indiscriminate use of wood and consequent depletion of the world’s forests is slowly but surely becoming a thing of the past. In many areas of the world people are now aware that forests must be managed intelligently if wood is to be used as a raw material and balance the planet’s oxygen needs at the same time. As a result, special resource maintenance and reforestation programs are being carried out in many countries. More and more, the only trees being cut down are the ones which have reached the end of their life cycle or whose continued growth could damage other trees. Companies such as B&B Italia recognize these environmental problems and obtain the majority of their wood from such sources. Finishing paints are made of solvents with very low toxicity and pollutant levels. Once polymerisation has occurred (hardening or drying) these paints do not leave behind any harmful substances. All paints used in the various application cycles are made using patented systems, exclusively for B&B Italia by the leading European manufacturers of wood paint. Authorized laboratories test all such treated surfaces to guarantee that they possess the optimum physical, mechanical and toxicological properties. Please note that the naturally finished surfaces of the types of wood listed above may change colour upon exposure to light.

Exclusive collections and ingenious solutions conceived to emphasize taste and elegance in interior furnishings. Let every aspect of the home convey the fullest expression of comfort and refinement. Enter an atmosphere designed by B&B Italia.
