1. INTRODUCTION

1.1. OBJECT

This document describes the interface between the operator and the TIL COAM

application.

1.2. SCOPE OF THIS DOCUMENT

This document applies to the version v17 of the BTS with COAM software on S2000

SBCF, S8000 CBCF, S8000 CSWM BTS, E-Cell BTS and BTS18000, BTS 18000

MCPA, BTS6000, BTS18000 (R)ICAM and BTS6000 (R)ICAM.

Note:

1. HPRM3T and RM2 are displayed as HPRM in TIL.

2. (R)ICAM refers to either RICAM or ICAM module in the BTS.

3. In Inventory results, the two modules RICAM and ICAM are distinguished

depending on the module present in the BTS.

3. GENERAL PRESENTATION

3.1. GENERALITIES

The TIL COAM is used during the installation phase of the BTS, in order to check

hardware and software status and to check equipment substitution or extension.

The TIL COAM is a Windows application, so all actions can be done with the left

button of the mouse, by clicking on a menu, on a radio button, or on a push button.

If in the title of an available function, a letter is underlined, the user can also use the

keyboard with the "underlined letter" keys to do this function (This is a Windows

standard functionality).

The TIL icon is in the Start Menu bar as per the path:

Start menu→Programs→Tml→ BTS Tools-→Til coam” version”→Til coam

The TIL icon for the Windows XP in the Start menu bar is as per the path:

Start menu -> All Programs -> Tml→ BTS Tools-→Til coam” version”→Til

coam

3.2. CONFIGURATION

The TIL COAM is a software package running on a windows machine under Windows

95/98/2000/NT/XP environment, including one standard Ethernet board and TCP/IP

protocol connectivity over the LAN to the CBCF/SBCF/CSWM/ICM/ECELL.

When using the "peer to peer" connection mode (described below), ensure that a

twisted pair cable is used between the PC and the BCF board.

Note: Check that an IP address and a network mask are defined in network

configuration panel on the PC.

3.3. CONNECTION MODES

3.3.1 USING NETWORK

You can run the TIL application on an Ethernet network, with the IP address of the

BCF board to open a TIL COAM session.

3.3.2 USING PEER-PEER

This connection mode is generally used in site installation because it is not necessary

to know IP address of the BCF board. With this mode, you need a twisted pair cable

and TIL application to establish the connection with the BCF board.

Note:

You should not use this mode with a network for establishing a TIL session.

If the operator uses the peer to peer connection mode on network, some boards

connected to the network would have the same IP address and it will be impossible to

connect a TIL on these targets, unless resetting each board or flashing a different IP

on the BCF.

3.4. BTS MODES

3.4.1 STANDALONE

In this mode, the BTS is not linked to the BSC and does not receive any message on

the Abis interface. At the end of the Standalone tests, the operator must disconnect

the TIL and reset the BCF board, to enable the BCF responds to Abis messages.

(Connected mode)

3.4.2 CONNECTED MODE

In this mode, the BTS is operational, linked to the BSC and may receive messages on

the Abis interface, during intervention with the TIL COAM.

The TIL can be connected and disconnected to the BCF, without disturbing the BTS.

3.5. GENERAL OPERATIONS

3.5.1 CONFIGURATION PANEL

(Refer Figure2 for the Configuration window)

When you run TIL application, a configuration panel appears, with the following

options .As soon as the configuration parameters are properly chosen, the connection

can be established and a view of the working BTS will be displayed.

The operator can choose the colour indicating a given state.

« State NOK » corresponds to bists result NOK or to a present alarm.

The explanations given in the following paragraphs refer to the default value

of the colors. The color of the status can be changed through the window

shown in Figure 1

RESULT SAVE MODE:

� Automatic : The results are saved automatically after each test and

also by the action of the operator. ”Save “icon will not be enabled except for certain tests. (Refer Appendix 6.8 for more details.)

� Manual : The results are saved only by the action of the operator. ”Save” icon will be enabled for all the tests.

These three fields are mandatory and are written in Result files.

� Presence of CC8 coupling: When CC8 coupling mode is selected,

all the functionality relative to CC8 and CA are accessible.

� For CC8 coupling mode selected, the presence of VSWR meter

alarm integrated in the main diplexer.

If the operator clicks on « OK » button, the TIL displays the cabinet view

corresponding to the configuration selected above. There is no connection

with a BTS, the colored rectangles associated to the boards are yellow (i.e.

state not defined). So you can see the cabinet view without connecting to a

BTS.

If the operator clicks on « Connection » button, a dialogue box appears to ask

in which mode operator wants to connect the TIL.

If the operator chooses the network mode, operator has to enter the IP

address of the BCF board. If operator chooses "peer to peer" connection,

operator must confirm his choice.

ALARMS CONFIGURATION FILE:

When the user clicks “Browse” button in the Alarm configuration, TIL displays

the list of the available alarms configuration files.

The alarms file description corresponding to the configuration BTS has to be

selected. The figure below shows an example of list:

When the user clicks “Browse” button in the Alarm configuration, TIL displays

the list of the available alarm configuration files with corresponding

Configuration Reference (DLU) files.

The alarms file description corresponding to the configuration BTS has to be

selected. Ref Figure 4, Figure 5, Figure 6 and Figure 7.

In connected mode for BTS18000/BTS18000 MCPA/BTS 6000/BTS18000

(R)ICAM/BTS6000 (R)ICAM, TIL will detect any inconsistency between the

chosen Alarm Configuration (or it’s absence if not chosen) and the

Configuration Reference (DLU) used by the BTS.

TIL application will check the consistency between the selected alarm

configuration file and the Configuration Reference (DLU) used by the BTS at

the start up. If not consistent, TIL will display a message prompting the user to

select the correct Configuration Reference (DLU) file in v16. In v17, TIL will

inform the user and selects the correct Configuration Reference(DLU) file. If

the user again selects the wrong Configuration Reference (DLU), TIL

application will not display Configuration Reference (DLU) information in the

title bar and no more validation is done.

3.5.2 CONNECTION MODES

STANDALONE

To establish the connection in Stand-alone mode any one of the following can

be adopted:

• The user may “Lock” the BTS sitemanager object at the OMC - R and

wait for the active BCF to come up, to establish the TIL connection, to display

the cabinet views.

• Without Locking the sitemanager object at the OMC - R, reset the

active BCF and launch the TIL application within few seconds, before the

active BCF comes up. There is a finite window of time opportunity, where TIL

presence may be detected by the active BCF board.

Note: If there is no BSC, it is not necessary to reset the BTS before launching

the TIL application.

CONNECTED

In connected mode, the TIL detects automatically that the BTS is connected to

the BSC. So, as soon as the connection with the BCF is established, the TIL

displays the cabinet view.

4. MAIN FUNCTIONS OF TIL

In both stand-alone and connected mode, the configuration BTS screen shows

the boards in the cabinet, associated to the BTS configuration:

The DRX/E-DRX type, the PA / ePA, the Frequency band Information (GSM

900, GSM 850, GSM 1800, GSM 1900, EGSM 900, RGSM etc), the Slave ID

info are displayed on the DRX buttons for all the BTS types.

The RM types, the TDMA, the frequency band information, the slave ID info is

displayed for BTS 18000/BTS 6000/BTS18000 MCPA/BTS18000 (R)ICAM/

BTS6000 (R)ICAM.

In Connected mode and only for BTS 18000/BTS6000/BTS18000 MCPA/

BTS18000 (R)ICAM/BTS6000 (R)ICAM, TIL will graphically display the

mapping between each configured Sector and its associated TDMA. A color-

coded frame around the related TDMA represents the sector to which the

TDMA belongs. Sectors can span across bays, the information about the

sectors spanned across the bays in indicated on the main MMI.

The TIL application automatically detects the sector configuration and the

BCCH carrying TDMA details at start-up. However, since sectors are

dynamically configurable, the user is provided with a mechanism to refresh the

information regarding the Sector and TDMA carrying the BCCH at any point of

time. The graphical representation is updated in accordance with the

information obtained from the BTS.

TIL graphically identifies per sector, the BCCH carrying TDMA. The choice of

BCCH carrying TDMA is configurable and is also subject to dynamic re-

allocations triggered by BSC Defense mechanisms. Consequently, the user is

provided a refresh option to enable the viewing of updated information.

In Connected mode and only for BTS18000/BTS 6000/BTS18000 MCPA/

BTS18000 (R)ICAM/BTS6000 (R)ICAM, TIL application displays the

Configuration Reference (DLU) that is being used by the BTS, provided there

are no inconsistency in the Configuration Reference (DLU) file selected by the

user and Configuration Reference (DLU) file used by the BTS. The

Configuration Reference (DLU) information provided is the Maximum possible

sector configuration.

4.1. RUNNING A TEST

4.1.1 USING KEYBOARD

All the actions can be done with the keyboard. To simulate the mouse click on an item,

press simultaneously the "Alt" key and a letter; this letter is the underlined letter in the

item (ex: "Alt + C" for "Cancel"). To select a line in a menu, the user can use the up or

down arrow keys and valid his choice with the "Enter" key (Windows standard)

4.1.2 USING MOUSE

All the operator actions can be done with the left button of the mouse. To perform a

test on a board, the operator has to click on the push-button associated to this board,

select his choice in the displayed pop-up menu and follow possible instructions.

To select a menu on the menu bar, just click on the menu item you had chosen. To

execute an action proposed by the TIL (ex: to quit a test), just click on the button,

which proposes this action (ex: Cancel)

4.1.3 TOOLS BAR

The operator can execute some functions using the tools bar, defined as following:

4.1.4 PERFORMING A TEST

To run a test on a board, the operator has to click with the mouse on the board

push-button or on the board name in the menu-bar: a menu with the proposed

tests appears. After the operator choice, the test is automatically executed.

Example: The following figures describe how to get the Bists of the active

CMCF.

4.2. AVAILABLE TESTS

4.2.1 PRESENTATION

This chapter describes the functions available on each board.

For each board, a table gives the list of functions supplied by this board, in the

two BTS connection modes (stand-alone, connected).

Each function is then described.

If the board does not supply the same function for the products S2000 and

S8000, BTS18000, BTS 6000, BTS18000 MCPA, BTS6000 (R)ICAM,

BTS18000 (R)ICAM a function table for each product is so given separately.

Note:

For each bists detail or boards alarms tests, the TIL displays a mnemonic and

a neighboring rectangle colored which indicates the state of the bists or

alarms, as shown in the example above (Refer Figure 27).

A screen displays the current connections in a table, giving the list of (PCM,

- PCM out are in Y-axis (0 to 7 for S2000, 0 to 15 for S8000)

- TS out are in X-axis (0 to 31)

At the intersection of a line PCMy and a column TSx, we can find a couple

(PCM, TS) which means that the (PCM, TS) couple is connected to the

(PCMy, TSx).

We can also find:

« Idle » i.e. (PCMy, TSx) is not used.

« Loop » i.e. (PCMy, TSx) for transmission is looped back with (PCMy, TSx)

for reception.

A screen displays only 8 time-slots at the same time. Use « >> » (next) and

« << » (previous) buttons to look for the others time-slot.

For S8000, BTS 18000, BTS 6000, BTS 18000 MCPA product, only 8 PCM

are displayed at the same time. Use « >> » (next) and « << » (previous)

buttons to look for the others PCM.

For BTS18000 (R)ICAM and BTS6000 (R)ICAM only PCMs 0,1,2,3,6,8 are

Note: When configuring the Extended RGSM, a check box is provided to

select Extended band channels. When the user checks the check box,

TIL COAM application will allow configuration for extended RGSM.

TCH CONFIGURATION

The operator chooses the channel number and the transmitted power. Then,

operator has to click on « Configure » button to configure or on « Close »

button to quit the window. If one of the input data is inconsistent, TIL refuses

these data and wait for new values. Other else, TIL configures TX and the

result of the configuration is displayed: « OK » or « NOK » with the error

cause. In TCH configuration, there is no PA transmission.

TRANSMISSION STOP

This function stops the PA transmission.

When the user has configured the PA in BCCH/TCH mode, operator can stop

the transmission with this function.

DISCONNECTION

This function is only available with a DRX/E-DRX (connected mode)

supervised by the BSC. After the disconnection, the colored rectangle of the

DRX becomes white (no function are available) and then it becomes orange if

there is no alarm or red in case of alarm presence.

After this disconnection action, the DRX/E-DRX becomes stand-alone

RECONNECTION

This function is only available with a DRX/E-DRX stand-alone. After the

reconnection, the colored rectangle of the DRX/E-DRX becomes green. The

DRX is again supervised by the BSC.

STATUS

RX TESTS

The operator can test the main or the diversity (DRX) channel by selecting the

appropriate menu item.

The configuration of the DRX to execute this test is automatically done by the

TIL. At the end of the test (duration is around 5 seconds), the results are

displayed in the form of a histogram and also given in a list of detailed

Measures. Figure 76 displays the histogram of Rx receive level test for DRX

and Figure 78 displays for E-DRX.

The operator can save detailed results in a file by clicking the "Save" button.

INTERNAL PCM TESTS

The configuration of the DRX/E-DRX to execute this test is automatically done

by the TIL. At the end of the test (duration is around 5 seconds), the TIL

displays the results of the test for each channel (A and B):

� Synchronization : 1 if OK

� Number of LSB low errors

� Number of LSB high errors

� Number of MSB low errors

RESET

This function executes a reset of the DRX/E-DRx. The colored rectangle associated to

the DRX will become white (no function are available, BCF can not access the DRX).

DRX will become green if bists are ok and there is no alarm, or it will become red if

bists nok or if there is an alarm.

mapping gets refreshed if the Refresh is clicked.

In connected mode, TIL can disconnect SYN for maintenance to avoid loss of GSM

disconnected at any point of time.

RECONNECTION

This function is only available with SYN card disconnected. After the reconnection, the

Grayed rectangle of the SYN becomes green.

RESET

The SYN card will be reset if not in connected state.

STATISTICS

Click on the PCM # (Where # = 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7) tab, for the respective PCMs

In case of BTS6000/BTS6000 (R)ICAM the Number of PCMs is 4, hence there will be

4 PCM tabs.

Click on the “Save” button to save the result to a file.

Click on the “Close” button to return to the TIL COAM main screen.

If there are any error counters, then the Show Histogram button is enabled, click on

the show Histogram button to view the histogram of the statistics of the Alarms in last

24 Hours.

In the Histogram window, click on close to return to the statistics display menu.

Click on the “OK” button, a warning message “Warning all the statistics will

reinitialized, Do you confirm your choice YES/No” is displayed. If user clicks on “YES”

button, the statistics are reinitialized.

If any error occurs, a message “Error: Statistics could not be reinitialized” is displayed.

Click on the “Cancel” button to return to the TIL_COAM main screen.

Tuning Detect - Green is OK & Red is NOK

� VSWR Alarm panel (Refer Figure 113)

Displays three levels of VSWR meter status. The global status of VSWR is linked with

CC8 status (i.e.) the Status of CC8 is NOK if VSWR meter status is NOK. Also TIL

memorizes these alarms, clicking “clear” menu refreshes these alarms.

� Cavity Characteristics Panel (Refer Figure 113)

� State: Gives the state of the physical position of the cavity.

� Opto/Motor: The color is green when the Optocoupler and motor are OK .For

other cases the color is red. The condition can also be verified through the Menu

bar function CC8 Commands.

� DRX Control Panel:

To modify the DRX setting for the cavity coupling, the DRX should be in isolated mode

and “not Taken “. The DRX panel enables the user the select the cavity (0-7) for a

particular DRX, the DCS band channel number and the power. Power can take 0 dBm

or 31.44 dBm range values. Refer Appendix 6.6 for details on cavity tuning for a DRX.

� Channel Repartition:

execute the BISTS Routines and Start CC8 from RAM content area.

� Close: This will close CC8 command menu bar function

� Unitary Park /Tune: Unitary tuning or parking of a cavity with a particular channel

number and updates the CC8 configuration window accordingly. Error messages

one or simultaneously or park the cavities one by one or simultaneously & update

the CC8 window accordingly.

� Stop Transmission: All DRX / DRX0 - 7: This will stop DRX Emission on any one

The Display in Figure 118 is same for all the marking functions, except the data will be of respective slaves and boards.

PCM LOOP-BACK

This function is only available in the menu bar, in stand-alone mode.

This function configures all the traffic (PCM, TS) in the switching matrix with loop-back connection. The DRX -PCM loop back test is described in §4.2.7 & Figure 80 & Figure 81.

PCM EXTERNAL TEST

This function executes the external tests on the PCM of all the PCMI boards.

The PCM external test is described in §4.2.4 “External PCM tests” & Figure 38 &

Figure 39.

BRC

BRC is applicable for

� GSM-R

� S8000-CBCF (outdoor) and S8002 & extensively on the main cabinet

� In stand-alone and connected modes

The presence of BRC on the outdoor site will be indicated by the level of DALI. TIL

checks this DALI exclusively when an Outdoor Alarm configuration file is selected.

SWITCH BATTERY ON/OFF

This will be enabled when BRC equipment is not present in the outdoor site. When selected Figure 119 will be displayed.

Clicking on the up arrow enables the user to “switch On/Off” the remote battery in

outdoor BTS, thereby making the ETCOA relay open/close.

BRC MONITORING

This gets enabled when the BRC equipment is available at the outdoor site. The BRC
