On Saturday Night, about 140 supporters of San Jose Christian School got together at the Campbell Community Center to enjoy some fellowship and raise money for our school. The specific causes for this year’s event included 40 laptops, network infrastructure improvements, and lego robotics kits for a new summer and after school program. In planning the event, our different needs totaled just under $70,000. With the auction proceeds still being totaled today, we have brought in over $84,000—our highest amount ever! We praise God for His provision for our school, and we thank you for your generosity! If you see Betsy Phillips or other members of the auction planning team this week, please congratulate them for a job well done. Teacher TalesCheck this section each week for exciting stories of teachers doing great things in the classrooms of San Jose Christian School.

3rd Graders Get Techie at the Apple Store

Mrs. Jackie DenOuden, SJCS 3rd Grade teacher, is one of the technology mentor teachers at SJCS. She is always working to infuse technology into her curriculum and helps other teachers do the same. One example of technology supporting curricular content, along with cross-curricular connections happened last week.

The third graders began reading the classic Mr. Popper's Penguins two weeks ago. In the classroom students been doing individual research on penguins and combining their efforts to create a shared Google Doc. During art class they drew penguins in their habitats, painting them with watercolors and tempera paints. Last week they took a field trip to the Apple store to create Keynote presentations. Students worked in partners to create a Keynote presentation of six slides with the help of the Apple Store employees. The Apple store preloaded our class content onto their computers, so these Keynote presentations included student research done in class, images of the students' artwork, other pictures of penguins. Students received T-shirts and Silicon wristband bracelet USB drives with their presentation to take home with them. This was best Apple store field trip yet!
