The Kindness of A Farmer. On October 1, 2014 I was driving from Elkton to Middletown on Bunker Hill Road, when suddenly a deer darted across the road. I veered sharply to avoid hitting it, but found myself in the deepest culvert in Delaware. My little Toyota was resting on its side with the two wheels on the driver’s side in midair. I climbed out. Many cars drove by including the power company that were working nearby, but never stopped. A farmer who was harvesting corn nearby drove his combine over to asses my predicament. He concluded that my car could not be pulled forward or backward. Without saying a ward, he drove off in his combine, but returned shortly in a pickup truck with some lumber. He placed the lumber strategically, and then jacked up my car so it could now touch the ground. Now I was able to maneuver the car back on the road. As he departed, he said, “ Next time bring your shotgun, so you can get that deer before it gets you.” Has someone been kind to you this past month? Send a thank you note!!! ~The Rev. Dr. Nicholas N. If you drove by Trinity Church on Saturday afternoon you might havebeen surprised by the number of the parishioners sniffing around outsideour open door. The small congregation of about 10 dogs and their ownerstook part in our Annual Blessing of the Animals, in observances of theFeast of St. Francis of Assisi.
