A note to you:Dr. Scott Pittman, Director of Partnership Missions of the KBC, told

us during the September Semi-Annual Meeting that a church should have astrong missionary outreach. It should have a global concern. As followers ofChrist, we are to spread the glorious news of redemption to men and womeneverywhere. In fact, the very last words of Jesus before His ascension werethese: Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has comeupon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and

Samaria, and to the end of the earth."A church should be missionary-minded. If a church is self centered

and it spends all its time and effort on its own interests-it will fail in reaching

the world with the Gospel. The North American Mission Board says a good

church is missional. What is a missional church?

Dr. Ed Stetzer, research team director and missiologist at the NorthAmerican Mission Board said the following: What is a missional church?Missionalis not the same as missions-minded, though they are bothimportant and related. A missions-minded church is one that cares aboutmissions around the world. It gives to missions, it goes to mission contexts, its involved in cross-cultural missions. Missionalleaders, however, know themission field is herenow. They realize they need not only to supportmissions, they need to be missionaries where they are. In its simplest form,

the term missionalis the noun missionary adapted into an adjective. Forexample, an adversary is your enemy. So, someone who is adversarial

acts like your enemy. A church or a follower of Christ who is viewed asmissionalacts like a missionary. They do the things that missionaries do,regardless of the context. They can be parachute-dropped into a village inIndia, or into the hustle of any North American city and be missional. Theystudy and learn a culture, live and proclaim the good news and contextualizeit for that culture. Missionalchurches take Acts 1:8 literally and act likemissionariessharing the gospel in word and deedin their own Jerusalem

(city or area), Judea (state or region), Samaria (North America) and to theends of the earth.

To develop a missional culture in your church, mission education isvery important. Missions education is a vital part of every Southern Baptist

church. Through missions education children, youth and adults are madeaware of Southern Baptist mission efforts around the world and how they canbecome personally involved in sharing the Good News of Jesus. Futuremissionaries will come from within churches that provide hands-on missionopportunities and emphasizes praying for and giving to missions. Creatingmissions awareness and a missions environment will encourage churches toreach out into their communities through a variety of ministries.

The missions education programs recommended by the KBC forchildren are: Mission Friends for preschoolers, Girls in Action forGrades 1-6, Royal Ambassadors for boys Grades 1-6, Children in Action for

Co-ed Grades 1-6, Acteens for girls in Grades 7-12, Challengers for boysGrades 7-12, and Youth on Mission for Co-ed Grades 7-12.

For adults the recommended programs by the KBC are: Sisters WhoCare for women age 18 and up, Women on Mission for women ages 18 andup, Baptist Men on Mission for men ages 18 and up, and Adults on Missionfor men and women ages 18 and up. There are no shortages of mission educa-tion resources for your church.

Womans Missionary Union and Baptist Mens Ministries provide

resources for training missions education leaders, equipping volunteers andleading persons of all ages to tell about Gods love for all.

If you find you are a mission minded church, you have plenty ofcompany, most are. The decision to make is: Do I want my church to bemissional?

    Needed

The disaster emergency reliefcommittee has sent out a

volunteer registration form to the pastors. The

    vision for the

committee is: An Association church has a

problem that it needs help with, i.e. electrical,

plumbing, etc. It needs help because it doesnt

have funds or manpower to deal with the

problem. This committee will utilize available

resources (manpower) to correct the problem.

If you would like to volunteer to help out,

please contact your pastor or the

association office for a volunteer sign up form.
