Smith Elementary The City of Ridgeland is participating in the Mississippi Mayors’ Let’s Play Challenge sponsored by Kaboom to win a new playground for Ann Smith Elementary School. The challenge requires citizens to log on and sign up to take the Let’s Play Pledge of at least sixty extra minutes of play per week with one or more children. Ridgeland is currently in seventh place in this competition. Only the top three cities will be awarded prizes, so we are asking everyone who lives, works or plays in Ridgeland to step up and make the pledge. To make your pledge, log on to www.letsplay.com and click the “Pledge Now” button. After doing this, enter your e-mail and select “Ridgeland” from the drop- down menu. After you make your pledge, share the link with your friends. Help local children and the State of Mississippi fight obesity and be healthy! Over 150 Children Receive School Supplies Through Youth Villages Trustmark National Bank led efforts this year in support of Youth Villages Mississippi’s campaign to gather school supplies for needy Mississippi children. The 2013 Backpack Heroes Campaign provides new backpacks and school supplies for the children served by Youth Villages Mississippi. All collections go directly to the children, most of whom cannot afford a backpack or basic supplies for the coming school year. Through the efforts of Trustmark National Bank, over 150 backpacks were filled with school supplies and were delivered to children and youth in need. For more information on Youth Villages Mississippi, visit www. youthvillages.org. At right ~ Trustmark Bank branches of Ridgeland, Madison and Jackson donated nearly $5,000 worth of backpacks and school supplies to Mississippi children. Businesses may donate cash in the form of a check which will be used to buy “goodie bag” items for Ridgeland’s Police Force. Funds left over, will be given to the Ridgeland Police Auxiliary to purchase necessary items for the department.

Any donation, large or small, is appreciated. Please make your check payable to the Ridgeland Chamber of Commerce and earmark it “Police Appreciation Week”. For more info call 601-991-9996.
