TH E CHALLE N G E The US military has evolved to be the greatest ghting force in history.

However, the amount of time and effort required to learn the art and science of warghting, across the full range of

military operations in volatile and dynamic environments, has increased signicantly.

While U.S. Army classrooms have improved the availability of education technologies, several inefciencies in

the delivery of virtual training exercises remain. These inefciencies

    are limiting students ability to

visualize multiple perspectives, realize knowledge gaps, and apply relevant feedback. Our team set out to overcome these challenges by designing a distributed learning technology solution for virtual battleeld

    classroom training.

TH E PRO CE SSE S We began the project by working closely with military instructors and students, listening to their needs rst-hand. We then incorporated that feedback

into various prototypes and usability testing cycles. With each iteration, Threat Tecs

technology team moved closer to a solution that met the needs of the end-users.

TH E R E SU LT OpEx is that solution. It

performs well, but is adaptable enough to meet the diverse needs of both schoolhouse instruction and unit professional development.

  • SI MU L ATE D WE APO NS Our armory is well-stocked with a broad selection of foreign weapons and equipment. These specialized systems, common to many threat organizations and military forces, are used by our Threat Emulators and Red Teams to realistically replicate the sights and sounds in live training venues. Additionally, we can rapidly fabricate and custom-build weapons to suit any operational environment.

TAC TI C AL V E H I CLE S A true to life opposing force requires the appropriate vehicles and transportation. Threat Tec possesses a variety of fully-operational vehicles that, like our other equipment, are common on real battleelds. These

geographically-representative vehicles are critical to accurately replicating a specic operational

    environment.

o ensure realistic representations of the hybrid threat in an operational environment, Threat Tec possesses a fabrication capability and a

robust inventory of opposing force systems. Our stock of weapons, equipment, clothing, vehicles, training aids and devices ensure every exercise, experiment, and

learning event is fully supported to the required level of detail.

BAT TLE FI E LD E FFEC T S Our large inventory of battleeld effects produce

    AT-14 KORNE T AND RPG -29

TH E CHALLE N G E Develop a realistic threat anti-armor capability to operationally test the Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle variants. As the MRAP was being developed, the prevalence of anti-armor systems

on the battleeld was a central concern. The Israeli

experience ghting in Lebanon served as the primary

example for threat conditions. Thus, operational testing

required surrogate threat anti-armor systems that replicated visual and audible signatures and were Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) capable.

TH E PRO CE SS We began by analyzing the Second Lebanese War to identify threat systems to model. The AT-14 KORNET and RPG-29 were both identied as likely threat weapon

systems. Collecting images, measurements, and details from the TRADOC G-2 Worldwide Equipment Guide (WEG) and open-source material. We then created d e t a i l e d

digitized drawings and followed with a rapid prototype, MILES-capable, AT-14 KORNET and RPG-29 simulators.

TH E R E SU LT The Threat Tec AT-14 KORNET and RPG-29

simulators were iteratively developed and employed in support of MRAP and, more recently, Joint Light Tactical

Vehicle operational tests. Achieving MILES kills at realistic engagement ranges, these systems were critical to the realistic operational test environments.
