Dear Parishioners, How is your Lenten discipline going? Are you spending a little extra time in prayer or reading a passage of Scripture? Have you been able to attend an extra Mass during the week or Adoration or Stations of the Cross? How is your fasting going? Have a look at the bottom of this page about what Pope Francis suggests when it comes to fasting. Please remember in your prayers those who are being Baptised at Easter and also those who are becoming full members of the Catholic Church at Easter . They will officially receive the Creed and the Our Father during Mass this weekend. It is a good idea that we think seriously in our prayers about the Creed that we say at Mass every weekend. Also remember the children who are celebrating their First Reconciliation this week. These children will later in the year celebrate Confirmation and First Eucharist. People attending Mass at Sunnybank might like to look at the Columbarium which is in the little outside courtyard to the right of the Altar. The Columbarium is where we place the ashes of our loved ones. Quite a few people have already reserved niches for themselves and their loved ones. There is a brochure on the back table talking about the Columbarium. For any more details please contact the Parish office on 3345 3766. For those who are unable to hear or have a hearing problem, we have two systems in the new Church at Sunnybank to assist you to be able to hear Mass. Firstly there is a hearing loop on the left-hand side of the Church (that is the seated area towards the front on the left-hand side). Secondly there is an app that can be loaded onto your phone to assist you to hear through your phone. There are instructions on page 3 of this newsletter to help you to access the app on your phone either through Google or the App Store. If you have any problems, have someone contact the Parish office and one of the girls will assist. VOCATION VIEW: The Lord called Abram to go forth to a new land and begin a new nation. There's no telling what we can become by responding to the Lord's invitation to us.

Second Sunday of Lent: Year A

Introduction: On the second Sunday of Lent, the Church traditionally directs our minds to the event of the Transfiguration of Jesus. As well as the words heard at Jesus’ baptism, ‘This is my Son, in whom I am well pleased’, we hear added the words, ‘Listen to him’. We ask for the grace to keep doing precisely that during our Lenten journey towards Easter.

First Reading: Genesis 12: 1-4 The call of Abram marks a significant stage in the realisation of God’s plan for human salvation. We are privileged to share in the blessing pronounced by God on Abram as he sets out for the unknown in obedience to God.

Second Reading: 2 Timothy 1: 8-10 Facing and bearing hardship is part and parcel of being a bearer and proclaimer of the Good News about Christ Jesus. But we do this relying on the power of God, not on our own strength.

Gospel: Matthew 17: 1-9 The apostles Peter, James and John are given an insight into the very special person Jesus is. He has an intimate relationship with God that far surpasses their wildest expectations. They are told, ‘Listen to him.’ That message is also for us.

In Timor-Leste, Martina was driven from her home by domestic violence. The Protection Program connected her with livelihood training opportunities, offering the chance to afford education for her eight children and a safe life in a supportive community.

Please donate to Project Compassion 2017 and help empower women in Timor-Leste to recover from domestic violence, develop sustainable livelihoods, and lead a life of dignity. You can donate through Parish boxes and envelopes, by visiting www.caritas.org.au/projectcompassion or phoning 1800 024 413.

‘THE JOY OF LOVE’ FROM POPE FRANCIS

The Tenderness of an Embrace

29. With a gaze of faith and love, grace and fidelity, we have contemplated the relationship between human families and the divine Trinity. The word of God tells us that the family is entrusted to a man, a woman and their children, so that they may become a communion of persons in the image of the union of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Begetting and raising children, for its part, mirrors God’s creative work. The family is called to join in daily prayer, to read the word of God and to share in Eucharistic communion, and thus to grow in love and become even more fully a temple in which the Spirit dwells.

LENT IDEA…

Pray a rosary—even just a decade a day.

Mary will only bring us closer to Christ.

The sorrowful mysteries are a great way to go deeper this Lent.

GOOD FRIDAY DRAMA Each year on Good Friday we act our the Passion of Christ during

the 2.00pm and 4.00pm services.

We need youth and young adults to be in the drama. Most of the

drama is in still frames so you don’t need to be good at acting to

participate. If you are in grade 7 or above we would love for you to

be involved. We especially need some tall-ish men.

You need to be available from 10:30am-5.00pm on Good Friday.

Please contact us if you are interested 0403 182 617
