Philip Milano Presents “Death of News: Your Future Without Facts” – 2 p.m., Stockade 101. In an age when the power of mainstream journalism has changed, we’re all being left to our own devices to sift through a vast data wasteland. He is also creator of The National Diversity Newspaper Job Bank and is former chair of the Recruitment and Youth Development Committee of The Newspaper Association of America's Diversity Board. Rhythms Literary Club – 11:25 a.m., Elston 420. Rhythms is SCCC’s student-run literary club. The group’s primary function is to produce an annual magazine of literature (short stories, plays, poems, songs, essays, etc.) and artwork (drawings, photographs, etc.), created by SCCC students, faculty and staff. The group also sponsors coffee-houses, readings, and other literary events. All students are welcome.

Robyn King Presents “Eating Lunch in the Bathroom: The Psychosocial Impact of Bullying” –6:30 p.m., Taylor Auditorium. King’s hard-hitting and eye-opening presentation is thought-provoking and educational, will change how you think about and react to bullying forever, and could potentially open the door to reclaiming interpersonal civility in your own life. The presenter endured bullying as a child before becoming a target of bullying as an obese woman. Additionally, she has experience counseling both bullying survivors and persons who bully, and uses this unique perspective and insightful knowledge to increase awareness of the long-term and detrimental psychosocial damage caused by bullying. She is a sought-after expert on the topic of bullying, a passionate advocate, and an outspoken survivor working to bring awareness to the psychological, emotional and physical torment survivors endure, and will introduce a plan on what we all can do about it. King is a 34-year college Student Affairs veteran; the last 13 have been as a counselor at Schenectady County Community College. She is now the Acting Director of Wellness and Support Services at SCCC. She recently was awarded the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service, the 2014 Woman of Character, Courage and Commitment Award by NYS Minorities in Criminal Justice, and was named Woman of the Year by the National Association for Professional Women. The SCCC School of Music is once again offering the Summer Audio Recording Institute, July 21-August 1. Participants will learn Protools software, recording techniques, microphone selection and placement, and work in the state-of-the-art Vianna-Brignola Recording Studio at SCCC, in a professional recording session. The Institute is directed by SCCC faculty member and experienced producer, Sten Isachsen. Cost of the Institute is $250 and the number of participants is limited to fifteen. High school students and adults may participate. See a copy of the Institute brochure, including an application form. The School of Music expects this Institute to sell out, so if interested, please act quickly.
