The 26th annual Pocono State Craft Festival will take place at Quiet Valley Living
Historical Farm on Saturday, August 25 and Sunday, August 26. This year’s festival features
a variety of genuine American crafts made
by artisans from across the country.
Crafters from the Tri-State Area,
West Virginia, Connecticut and California
will exhibit everything from leather to
jewelry and furniture to metal work. Daily
crafting demonstrations will feature pottery
throwing, wood turning and Theorem
Painting. Festivities will also include bluegrass and gospel music by
the Lost Ramblers, and an interactive children’s area. Quiet Valley
will offer wagon rides and a baking demonstration.
Also at Quiet Valley August 25 and 26: a French and Indian
War Encampment, presented by the New Jersey Frontier Guard.
Festival guests are encouraged to experience this accurate portrayal
of life in the Royal Province of New Jersey during the French and
Indian War.
Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5
p.m. Sunday, rain or shine. Admission is $6 for guests 13 and older,

In 1997, artist Joan Polishook invited some friends and fellow artists
to join her as she painted outdoors. Fifteen years later, Polishook and
her peers are still painting “en plein air,” but the outings have grown in
participation and frequency to become anticipated events in the local art
community. Her public Come Paint with Me sessions take place every
Thursday from June through October at various locations in the Poconos.
Come Paint with Me is a free, non-instructional program open to
artists of all ages and abilities. Sessions take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
and include ample time for painting with a break for lunch, discussion and
gentile critique.
The next Come Paint with Me excursion will take place on the
grounds of the Shawnee Inn on Thursday, August 30. Participants meet
at 10 a.m. at the River Pavilion. Bring your own supplies and refreshments.
For more information and a complete schedule of events, visit
www.joanpolishook-art.com, or call (570) 775-6896.

Wally Lake Fest returns to the shores of Lake
Wallenpaupack on Friday, August 24 through Sunday,
August 26. The event, now in its third year, celebrates
the “Big Lake” as its summer season comes to a close.
This year’s festival is full of activities planned all around
the Lake Region.
Festivities begin Friday with the Hawley Farmers’
Market and live entertainment throughout the
region. Burden on Society will perform at Ehrhardt’s
Waterfront Resort, and the Settlers Inn will host
“Blues, Brews and Barbecue,” with live music from The
Liberto Trio from 5 to 9 p.m.
Saturday’s schedule is packed with indoor and
outdoor fun. Activities start at 10 a.m., and include an
Open Market Fair, a motorcycle “Ride for the Lake,”
free kayak trials and sailboat rides, a sand sculpture
contest, a boat parade and more! Four bands will
perform throughout the day on a fl oating stage in
front of the Visitors Center, and many local venues will
offer live music in the evening hours.
Celebrations continue Sunday with the Open
Market Fair, a lakeside breakfast buffet at Ehrhardt’s, PPL Dam and Power House tours, fl y casting demos, and even
a wing eating contest! These are just some of the many great events taking place on the Big Lake this year. For more
information and a complete schedule of events, visit www.wallylakefest.com or call (570) 226-2141.

For 95 years, Pennsylvania
residents have fl ocked to the Greene-
Dreher-Sterling (GDS) Fair to celebrate
agriculture and community. This year,
the fair takes place from Tuesday, August
28 through Monday, September 3 on
the GDS fairgrounds in Newfoundland.
Visitors can look forward to a variety of
family-friendly activities at the fair
each day.
Agricultural activities include 4-H
animal shows and a farm crop auction.
Daily musical performances include
the Jude Polka Band, The Confederate
Railroad Band, the Big Things Band and more. Kids will love the rides on the midway delight in the action-
packed pulls and derbies in the arena. And don’t miss a minute of the contests and pageants! There will be
an animal dress-up show, a baby pageant, a pie-eating contest and even a team milking contest in the barn!
These are just a few of the exciting activities happening this year. Get to the GDS Fair and experience all that
the historic celebration has to offer.
Gates open at 11 a.m. on
Tuesday through Thursday with
a midweek admission special of
$5. Seniors (65+) pay just $3 on
Thursday with valid ID. Friday
through Monday, the fair opens
at 9 a.m. and admission is $8.
Gate fees grant access to rides,
exhibits, shows and most arena
events. Fair parking is always free
and includes a shuttle from the
lot to the main gate. A complete
