URGENT:

We are very short of

people to help on the

Welcome Desk at

10.30am-12, If you

can offer to arrive

early once a month

and help with a smile

please see a warden

or Philip/Frances

Huw posted this picture yesterday. Sadly someone has destroyed the tree plant-

ed in Richard Hanson’s memory. Several

other trees in Abbeyfield Park have also

been vandalised. Today in our Harvest

service we are using Tear Fund’s harvest

resources. Richard was a huge supporter

of Tear Fund and many of his wonderful

photos appeared over the years in Tear

Fund’s magazines. We are going to see

today how Christians in Uganda are plant-

ing seeds of hope in very needy commu-

nities. We will also be using the story in

the Old Testament of Jeremiah buying a

field ,even though the enemy was at the

gate, as a sign that there is always hope.

I feel that our neighbourhood is going

through a difficult period. It has be-

come noisier, messier and feels more on

edge. Our reaction to mindless vandalism

will be one of anger at a senseless piece of destruction but our sense of Chris-

tian hope will be to plant again, to pray for those people who at the moment are

set on spoiling and never, ever give up on the hope we have in Jesus.

Philip

Quietly and persistently behind the scenes we are

getting there! The fabric team have been meeting

with the architect, builders and the Council to keep

up the progress we have made over the past year.

The to do list includes replastering in church, in-

stalling a window guard over the south window

(someone has been using it for target practice), work

to sort out the pigeons in the upper tower. We also

have some issues with the speaker system in church

and the paths and memorials in the church yard and

the glass doors into church. So never a dull moment!

Thanks everyone who is involved in keeping the

building well maintained.
