Applications Deadlines

Sept 15, Jan. 15, Mar 15, and June 15 each year It is likely that program will fill prior to final deadline !!

• Files will be review according to the given Allied Health admissions procedure.

• It is highly recommended that students complete files by Sept. 15th and Jan. 15th deadlines due to the highly competitive nature of this program.

• Students will receive either an acceptance, denial or pending letter regarding their status at the end of each cycle.

• Acceptance Process

• This process will continue until the program fills• Students will receive a letter of either acceptance or

non acceptance.• If non acceptance it should explain your status for

the following year.• With current number of applications the DMS

programs fills prior to the March Deadline

• Make sure the content and credits are comparable• Credits should be equal to Triton’s class or greater• Can’t be a pass or fail class and must have gotten

credit for it• AHL, Math, Science must be within five years of year

your applying for.• Make sure you forward transcripts at the end of each

These standards give an idea of skills and cognitive abilities that one should have to be successful in the field of Sonography

Health and Physical AbilitiesStudents enrolled must meet the following criteria:

• Physical stamina is required for the hard work involved: standing on one’s feet for a long period of time, pushing and pulling equipment, lifting and positioning patients; continuous scanning may cause strain on legs, back, shoulder and wrist

• Good hand mobility for gripping, and squeezing like motions, as well as repetitive hand and wrist motion

• Visual Acuity to view detail differentiation• Free of communicable diseases and infections, as

you will be working with sick patients and constantly being exposed to communicable diseases and infections. (Documentation thru the Health Verification Form )

Technical Aptitude• Ability to conceptualize images in three-dimensional

form• Good hand eye coordination• Ability to hear and distinguish the differences of

audible signals.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

• Ability to effectively communicate with patient to give adequate explanations and instructions

• Ability to effectively communicate with other health care professionals to expedite adequate patient care in acquiring a diagnosis

• Ability to effectively communicate with Sonologist their interpretation of images acquired

• Ability to deal compassionately with patients in the time of stress and crisis

• Ability to remain calm and flexible by disruption of routine

• Ability to interact with physicians and other medical personnel to relay diagnostic information

Emotional Stability

• Very close contact with patients in a short period of time• Deal with sick patients (not all OBs)• Invasive Procedures becoming the norm• Contrast Agents may eventually lead to sonographers doing

injections• Portable exams require movement of the unit• Rooms are dark and looking at a computer screen• Dynamically changing and advancing in procedures

Ultrasound the field………..

• Each student goes to a total of two- four sites • Completes approx. 1000 clinical hours• Do take in to account location, but chosen by what

site has to offer as well as students learning styles.• First rotation ask students for input• Second rotation chosen by what student needs to

complete requirements

Clinical Assignment Requirements

• Currently we are taking the most qualified candidates whether they are in or out of district

• If you r district offers a two-year program you would not be eligible for a charge back

• Charge backs are an agreement between your college and you. Triton doesn’t approve them

• Some schools are not offering charge backs even if they have no DMS program.

Who is qualified……

• Higher grades…. More points in Pre Requisites• Pre requisites must be completed by deadline• No points for courses in progress• Any other courses in Degree (non-DMS) completed will increase your chances• Remember Math, Science and AHL must be within

the last 5 years of the year you are applying for.

DMS Point Count Process( This may change once reviewed during Application 2013)

• Pre Reqs : Must have these done for application to be evaluated• RHT 101, • AHL 120 (med term), • AHL 115 or physics, • BIS 240 (anatomy and physiology I) • MAT 085 (algebra and Geometry II)• All science, math and AHL must be within the last five years of the year student is applying for

to qualify for any points.

Must place in college level Algebra (MATH 110) Additional points done for general education requirement coursework completionIf we have to many with high points, we will look at In district , date of application and other

pertinent info that would lead to success.
