New visitors are encouraged to read the IRIS Data Access Tutorial or use the Request Tool Wizard to help select the best tool to use for accessing data.
The DMS Standing Committee operates in an oversight capacity to ensure that the IRIS Data Management System (DMS) is effective in archiving and making available data from the GSN and PASSCAL programs, as well as other data.
A complete list of the charges to the DMS can be found at

DHI allows seamless access to data using CORBA. Widely used DHI clients include:
JWEED allows users to seamlessly retrieve seismic data using arrival time selections relative to cataloged earthquakes. JWEED provides a WMS mapping tool, waveform viewer, and data file output to local disk.
SOD is a program that automates tedious data selection, downloading, and routine processing of earthquake data using runtime monitors to perform customized data collection tasks.
VASE is a client application for viewing and extracting seismic waveforms from the DMC’s waveform archive as well as the real-time feeds.

SeedLink is used by the DMC as a robust data transmission protocol for relaying waveform data in real-time.

Data Sources About the DMS Request Methods
DMS Nodes
The IRIS DMS consists of eight “nodes” that work together to insure the smooth flow of data from stations in the GSN, PASSCAL, FDSN, EarthScope, and other programs to the seismological research community.
The Albuquerque Seismic Laboratory (ASL) and the UCSD/IDA Data Collection Centers collect data from the GSN, perform QA on the data, convert the data to SEED and send the GSN data to the DMC.
The PASSCAL instrument Center (PIC) performs QA and reformatting for PASSCAL data. The Array Network Facility (ANF) is charged with insuring that USArray/Transportable Array data flow to the DMC and that proper metadata is available.
The Kazakh National Data Center (KZ) in Almaty performs QA on data from the numerous arrays and stations in Kazakhstan before forwarding the data to the IRIS DMC. The KNET Data Center (KN) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan also contributes data to IRIS.
The University of Washington (UW) picks phases for all FARM data at the DMC and feedback any problems found. The DMC in Seattle is the home of the IRIS data archive and serves as the primary distribution point for IRIS data.
BREQ_FAST - Batch access to the IRIS DMC archive is achieved by emailing a specially formatted file to the IRIS DMC.
NetDC is a data request system that allows a user to request seismological information from multiple data centers through a single email mechanism.
WebRequest - The WebRequest tool allows users to compose BREQ_FAST-style requests and send them directly to the DMC for processing.
WILBER II - a web interface for browsing and requesting event related data. WILBER allows you to preview data plots and request data by network, channel, and distance. This is the preferred method for requesting FARM and SPYDER® data.
IEB - The IRIS Earthquake Browser combines the DMC's large database of earthquakes with the popular Google MapsTM web interface.
SeismiQuery is a set of web forms that allow users to access data and information stored in the DMC Oracle database.
MDA - The MetaData Aggregator (MDA) returns metadata summaries of all stations in the IRIS DMC database including data availability and links to further services.

The DMC receives waveform data from many sources. The main contributors are:
• IRIS GSN • IRIS PASSCAL • FDSN • EarthScope • US Regional Networks
The DMC archives metadata provided by network operators that include station locations, channel responses, and data problem reports. The DMC also collects near-real-time data via the BUD system and creates event-related waveform products (FARM and SPYDER®) for easier access to data.
IRIS has a variety of tools for requesting and viewing data, including DHI clients and mapping tools. An easy way to find these tools is shown on the Data Request Methods Chart.
