FDA Updates on Hand Sanitizers with Methanol - Additional Manufacturers and Products FDA is warning consumers and health care providers that the agency has seen a sharp increase in hand sanitizer products that are labeled to contain ethanol (also known as ethyl alcohol) but that have tested positive for methanol contamination. Methanol, or wood alcohol, is a substance that can be toxic when absorbed through the skin or ingested and can be life-threatening when ingested. July 2, 2020 Update– CPS Vendor Partners
Vinyl and Nitrile Gloves – CPS For Nitrile and Vinyl Gloves, current demand is at an all-time high and supply continues to be limited. Industry analysists project demand for disposable gloves to be 3 to 4 times global capacity with full supply chain recovery taking up to a year or longer. Contributors to the imbalance between demand and supply link to COVID-19, including the prior Extended Chinese New Year (factory shutdowns), simultaneous increase in demand globally due to COVID, factories running at capacity, raw material shortages, government labor restrictions, logistical interruptions, export restrictions, packaging shortages, and citizen movement control orders. Additionally, over the next few months there will be significant price increases, approaching 100% cost increases, which will be reflected in the pricing to communities. Allocations will continue and there may be shortages as the category and supply chain teams work with suppliers to ensure a balanced approach is being taken regarding the order fill process.
CPS is closely monitoring changes that could impact the supply and collaborating with vendor partners to receive daily supply updates. Currently our vendor partners are supplying gloves at different quantities, limited availability and allocations. Below are best practices to manage your glove inventory at your community. Thank you in advance for practicing responsible ordering.
• Ordering up to your allocation. NO LESS so that you can keep your demand levels consistent. • Do not shift purchasing to more nitrile from vinyl or vice versa so that allocations can remain
consistent and maintainable. • Control at the community level is more important than ever. Please make sure central supply folks are
passing gloves to the patient room when possible and locking down stock when it not being passed.

Since the FDA announcement, CPS has been diligently reaching out to our vendor partners to learn if any vendor partner has distributed hand sanitizer manufactured by Eskbiochem SA de CV. Pasteurized Shell Egg facility was unable to keep up with production this weekend. This will potentially create shortages in the short term.

o OpCo deliveries. While deliveries have not been effected, many of the OpCo’s that service areas impacted by the riots continuously monitor the safety for our drivers to make deliveries in these areas.
• Sysco Branded Peanut Butter- there will be shortages due to a fire. o There was a fire at the plant where Sysco Classic and House Recipe peanut butter items are
produced. It started in the peanut roaster during sanitation procedures and caused damage to the roaster and surrounding areas. While the fire was contained there was smoke and water damage to other areas of the plant.
o Other 8th Avenue facilities are providing roasted peanuts for production. 8th Avenue is also working with ConAgra to move products to all ConAgra distribution facilities as soon as it is produced. They are working to ramp up production to fill supply. Meanwhile, attached is a list of subs.

Food & Beverage Update by Sysco
• Beef production is down 25%. Supply is very tight due to plant closures, retail demand. There is less raw material in the marketplace due to record decreased harvest levels. The forecast from the industry is 3 to 4 more weeks of plant processing issues (closures, slowdowns) and it may take another week or two after this period to fill in the pipeline again. Supplies are expected to increase the week of May 25th due to the Defense Production Act, but demand is expected to remain high.
• Pork supply through Tyson is good with no risk of supply interruption at this time. Smithfield’s Sioux Falls plant remains closed, other plants remain open but there is some fresh pork shortage through this supply channel. JBS is having labor issues at their plants which will impact all pork butts.
• Poultry is good with no risk of supply interruption at this time per Tyson. Reported supply impacts are on the retail side i.e. grocery stores. The industry as a whole is harvesting 13% fewer birds on average compared to pre-Covid. The fill rate from fresh chicken suppliers is currently 98%. The availability of processed chicken is not currently posing service level challenges.
• There are and will continue to be substitutions of some products through Sysco as they continue to manage multiple shifting changes in the market and supply chain.

Lab Testing Service Providers and COVID-19 Rapid Test Suppliers To help with sharing testing information, we are providing preliminary vetting of five national lab service providers and information in a comparison matrix Lab Testing Services - Matrix 4.28.20, as well as information on our CPS vendors who supply COVID-19 test equipment and kits such as Abbott and Medline.
CPS has evaluated five lab service providers that have full capabilities to provide testing of residents and employees in the communities, bill through insurance for both employees and residents (Medicare/Medicaid/private), and can confirm polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing capabilities as well as Thermo Fisher Scientific Equipment. Test results can be expected in about 24-36 hours and accessed via a client portal.

All have very similar processes for testing and can do so nationally. They all will work with the community to set up weekly testing quantities or what’s needed so there isn’t a required quantity to enter into an agreement. A comparison matrix is attached to provide more detail on requirements, reimbursements, and test results expected from the lab service providers.
Medline COVID-19 Testing Options Medline has selected Cepheid (manufacturer of the COVID-19 rapid tests) as their COVID-19 testing system which also has received an Emergency Use Authorization number from the FDA. There is an option to enter into a committed contract with a minimum annual purchase of 600 swab tests (approx. $49/test) and they will install the Cepheid testing system at very minimal charge. There is still a requirement that the community must have a CLIA waiver to receive and administer this test. Medline has a team of lab specialists who will provide training and guidance if the system/test are purchased. Lead time to receive the testing system has been 3-8 weeks once the agreement has been executed.

Serology Test: Medline is currently taking orders for the antibody test. Please note that currently there are approx. 90 manufacturers are being evaluated by the FDA and there HAS NOT been a EUA number released. Medline expects that once the FDA does release an EUA number they will have the capabilities to release these tests to those that have placed an order. This test measures exposure and an antibody response to the virus, and can be done with a finger stick blood sample. Today, the FDA is allowing this type of kit to be available only to CLIA highly complex labs (like reference labs) and the military, but Medline expects these tests to be available to other facilities in the near future. The cost of these tests will be $15 per test with 20 test to a kit ($300 per kit), and no additional instrumentation is needed. Wondfo SARS-CoV-2 Antibody Test

Abbott COVID-19 Testing Options Abbott (manufacturer of the COVID-19 test) recently announced they had received an Emergency Use Authorization number from the FDA for a COVID-19 test for use with their ID NOW rapid point-of-care platform. The platform is required to provide the results of the test. What does that mean? It means the test has not been FDA cleared or approved which typically takes a year or more to clear clinical trials. But the good news is that it has been authorized to be administered in labs and patient care settings. So, production is ramping up and Abbott is evaluating additional manufacturing channels due to this demand. Major medical distributors are working with the Unites States government and FEMA to airfreight personal protective equipment supplies from China to the U.S. through Operation Air Bridge. FEMA is directing all operations and is prioritizing shipments to areas of widespread positive cases. Sherwin Williams Foundation – N95 Mask Donations Sherwin Williams is working through their foundation to donate N95 masks from their distribution centers to those in need. Quantities are limited but you may be able to obtain some masks by emailing the link below and answering 9 simple questions to help facilitate a donation request.

Bed Tables/Beds - Direct Supply • Some senior living communities are finding themselves in need of additional over-bed
tables to accommodate dining in resident rooms as well as beds in anticipation of additional residents.

Stericycle and Shred-It • If your community utilizes Stericycle and Shred-it services and need those services

Sysco Update • To-go containers. There has been a tremendous surge in ordering of these items and
inventory is depleting. Sysco is working to secure additional dedicated manufacturing lines to help meet needs.
• Toilet paper. According to the paper manufacturers, they have inventory. Unfortunately, it is going to take time getting this inventory to the Sysco OpCos.

• National Strategic Stockpile of PPE. The government is working to disseminate personal protective equipment supplies to local department of health/emergency management offices. Contact your local office to obtain the necessary supply forms and directions for obtaining supplies being disseminated through this resource.
• Sherwin Williams may be a resource to access personal protective equipment. The supply is limited and can vary by location. Please contact your local Sherwin Williams store if you are in need of these products. This is not a resource for large orders, so please limit your orders to what you need and not over order. The information is attached.
• Telehealth services. These services are in high demand right now and help with distancing effort while providing necessary resident care. CPS worked with ThirdEye to reduce rates during this time of emergency crisis to help with this important need. The information is attached.
• GE Appliances will be temporarily shutting down their US manufacturing plants for at least 3 weeks, possibly longer. If you have a need for appliances in the next few weeks, order now. While GE Apps has increased production in anticipation of this shut down and has current stock of most models, we expect the current stock to be diminished within a few days once the news is released. Communities should reach out to David Goldberg, Donald Pederson or Andy Brown to place these orders as soon as you can, to ensure these appliances are available.

Vendor Industry Updates China’s shipping ports are starting to open but manufacturers are still at limited production. We anticipate the in the next few weeks, many communities will be at critical or depleted levels of personal protective equipment and other supplies. We are hopeful that shipments to the states will start soon to help replenish our distributor supplies. Some communities are requesting their medical supply reps to come into the buildings to perform quarterly inventory audits. In keeping with recommendations to allow only necessary visitors in long-term care communities, we recommend communities use their inventory data from the previous quarter until regular ordering and delivery schedules are resumed. Infrared thermometers – • Direct Supply worked with Links Medical Products (LINK) to secure access to a new non-
contact thermometer. The new thermometer is now active in the system and orders can be placed. Once the backorders are handled and LINK has verified they have enough inventory to support new sales they will start shipping early April.
o Product Information: DS# 7X485 - JXB Infrared Non-Contact Thermometer - Model 183 must be ordered directly from Direct Supply at this time, not on DCS yet. Call your Direct Supply rep directly to place orders for these thermometers.
• Medline has sourced a no touch thermometer that is on allocation. Current Medline customers can order up to 3 (three) thermometers per order using item # MDSNOTOUCH. Medical Supply Distribution: Due to heavy delivery demands, medical supply distributor delivery drivers are unable to accommodate screening processes as implemented in most communities. Distributors are establishing “designated safety drop zone areas” with each community in order to safely deliver medical supplies.
CPS will be providing additional updates as it relates to supplies and disruption/strain to our manufacturer and distributor supply chain within the next 30, 60, 90 days to try to be as proactive as possible during this time. CPS is evaluating inventory and options for linen, bed rental, meal preparation and To Go Containers that will be provided in upcoming communications.
