The number one to think about is the amount of sun your home gets. You are not going to

get much solar power if your home has too much shade.

Get rid of your old tank-style water heater, and replace it with a modern tankless model.

While heaters that are tankless still need electricity or gas, they will not heat more water than

you need, which is what a water tank heater does. You can purchase tankless heaters that

supply the whole house, or ones that supply just one faucet.

Replace an energy-hogging water heating tank with a greener, tankless variety. These still

use gas and electricity to heat water, but they heat only what you use instead of continuously

heating the whole tank. Tankless heaters are available in models that supply the entire house

or a single faucet with hot water.

Turn the heat down in your house. If you find the air a little chilly, put on a sweater or an extra

pair of socks. When your heat is running it uses more energy than necessary.

Energy can be saved by taking out the laptop computer battery and then run on AC power

when not being mobile. The battery will continue to draw energy, even at full capacity, so

taking it out will save a few kilowatts of power. A bonus is that you will also improve the

battery's life.

Pay attention to local and federal rebates for renewable energy updates on your home.

Sometimes, your local utility company can give you a rebate based on what the upgrades

cost. Additionally, it may be possible to take advantage of tax rebates offered by state and

federal governments. These rebates, credits, and other allowances can make it much more

affordable to install renewable energy equipment on your property.

Use your microwave oven whenever you can instead of the stove and oven. Ovens and

stoves use lots more energy to prepare food than microwaves. Any time you could perform a

task in the microwave without altering the results, such as boiling water, do so. You can

conserve a significant amount of energy this way.

If you want to save on your heat bill, you can start by heating the rooms separately. A good

way to get that done is to use floor heating that has a main board for allowing you to set a

certain temperature in different areas. This is a wonderful solution for larger homes.

If you are not using something, turn it off. Upon leaving a room, turn off such things as the

lights, computer, television or entertainment center. If you run your electronics through a

power strip, you can turn everything off in that room with one switch.

Being aware of the amount of lights that are used in the home can make a difference when

embracing green energy. Don't turn on the lights until a certain time, during the brighter

months. You can use dimmers to adjust light usage to a lower amount, and timers or sensors

can be used to be sure that lights aren't left on after someone has left a room.

In addition to cutting down on the amount of energy you use, consider installing a system to

make renewable energy. travel guide uk
