Treat your guests to a friendly tournament on Thistle Dhu, our own miniature
putting course. Calling to mind the legendary Himalayas Course at
St. Andrews, Thistle Dhu features 18 “mini” holes of mind-bending putting
challenges.
Make sure to share the story of Thistle Dhu with your guests.
The first miniature golf course in America was actually built in Pinehurst. James
Barber, owner of the Barber Steamship Lines, built a miniature course in the
backyard of his home behind the Carolina Hotel. When it was complete, he
exclaimed, “This’ll do.” After that, the course was named “Thistle Dhu.”

This is an exclusive peek into the home designed and formerly owned by re-nowned golf course architect Donald Ross.
At first glance, the Donald Ross House/Dornoch Cottage (named after Ross’ hometown in Scotland) looks like any ordinary home. Visible from Midland Road, it is a mix of traditional and colonial. The front features a modern brick façade and arched entryway. The back, however, is much grander, with towering white columns that span from the ground to the roof. The house is a testament to marriage and compromise – a traditional front to the house to please Ross and a colonial look to the back to appease his wife.
An Evening at the Donald Ross House includes a reception and putting con-test on the third green of the famed Pinehurst No. 2. Our culinary team, led by Executive Chef Thierry Debailleul, will create a farm-to-table menu tailored specifically for you, complete with custom cocktails, local craft beers and select wines. Throughout the evening guests can immerse themselves in golf history, viewing the extensive collection of historic memorabilia belonging to the current homeowners.

This outing showcases two of the best experiences in the region. Plus, each will provide you with a keepsake of your time here in the Sandhills.
Linda Dalton PotteryInspired by their love of arts and crafts, Linda and Jim Dalton started Linda Dal-ton Pottery in 2004. They each share a passion for working with their hands and for making pottery that is not only well-crafted and a pleasure to use, but also beautiful. Their unique style of infusing horse hair into their work is a sight to see. Guests will create their own masterpiece of a small pot or plate, infuse it with
horse hair and even add some grounds of coffee as a finishing touch.
Black Rock VineyardBlack Rock Vineyard and Winery is the first vinifera (meaning Old World) vineyard in Moore County, growing nine red varieties and five white varieties, testing which best suite the area’s growing conditions. During your visit, you can choose to taste a selection of dry wines or a selection of sweet wines and take home a commemorative glass. They recently won awards for their Chambourcin, Viognier and Sangiovese.
