Uh W eapon s o f ou r W a rfa reooks b y Rev . W . V . Gran t50~ each or all twelve books for $5.00A few years ago a man was showing Brother Burrishis fine bridle, saddle, and spurs. He was telling himhow wonderful they were."Where is your horse?" asked Brother Burris."Oh, I rode him to death", the man replied. What do you need with a bridle, if the horse isdead? What does it help to brag about your spurs and your

saddle if you have ridden the horse to death? Whykeep spurring a dead horse? The bridle is used to guide and control the horsewhen the horse is alive. The spurs help regulate thehorse before he dies. You never put a saddle on ahorse that is dead.A few horses are not yet dead, but they are nearlydead. You can count every rib in them. They look

like they have gone through a hard Arkansas winter, without any corn, barely living an a little grass. Theyare about to ' fall to ' staves. Their hair is long andshaggy. Yet some people will put a good saddle onthem, jump on them, and spur them as hard as theycan. They unmercifully ride them until they ride themto' death. They should be feeding them same goodoats and corn. They should stop jerking the bits andburying the spurs in their ribs, at least until they gainsame strength! After some of the poor horses die and begin toputrify t here are a few puny people who will still jerk

their bits and bury their spurs into -the dead hair. They try to farce the dead horse to keep going! Thesepeople have nothing to ride, but they keep using thebridle, saddle and spurs. They try to regulate thedead horse. Why brag about the regulator when youhave nothing to regulate?

PAUL'S REGULATORPaul had a wonderful church. It was healthy. Thepeople came behind in no gift. They obeyed the Lord. When they did the unsaved fell down under convictionand reported that God was in them of a truth, becausethe secret of their heart was made manifest. His churchwas very Spiritual. It was alive, thriving, and pro-gressive. When they came together, everyone of themhad a gift.Since Paul's church was so large, strong and heal-thy; since it was able to prance along; since it wasable bodied; since it was well fed; since it was anxiousto get gone and lunge ahead, then he gave the peoplea regulator in the fourteenth chapter of First Cor-inthians. He did not condemn the usage of gifts;he only regulated them.It is perfectly alright for you to use this regulatortoday if you have a strong, healthy, Holy Ghost-filled,prosperous, growing church which presses forward inthe anointing of the Holy Spirit. If your church doesnot have the Holy Ghost Baptism; if it does not havethe gifts of the Spirit manifested in it; then you donot need to regulate something which you do not have!I would rather think you need something to regu-late before you preach a sermon to your people fromFirst Corinthians fourteen. Maybe you should firstpreach First Corinthians twelve to your people. Ithink, if your church has been nearly spurred to deaththat you should not jump on it and jerk the bits andspur it until you finish killing it! It is better to en-courage it and feed it instead of whipping and kickingit until it lands in the boneyard with the others thathave been killed by tradition and the learning of thecarnal minds.

A CONTROVERSIAL CHAPTERFirst Corinthians fourteen is the most controversialchapter of Corinthians; of the Christian Church, orof this century. For this reason I am sure that if wetake it verse by verse we will break down some trad-ition that has made the Word of God of none effectin the lives of many well meaning people. You can neverlearn until you unlearn some things and exchangetradition for truth. If you will be patient with me,and go over every verse, I am sure that you will neverbe the same again. Don't begin with a critical spirit, but with a Spirit of prayer that God will open ourunderstanding. open the Scrip: ures, and open our eyesthat we may behold great aud mighty things out ofHis law. A natural mind can't understand the thingsof the Spirit, but he that doeth His will shall know ofthe doctrine. The Holy Spirit will teach us all thingsand guide us into all truth; so help me Lord.

VERSE I"Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy."The first thing we must remember is this: Paulwrote First Corinthians in one letter. Man divided itinto chapters and verses for convenience. So chapterfourteen is really not separated from chapter thirteen. The last verse of chapter thirteen says, "and nowabideth faith, hope and charity and the greatest ofthese is charity."There are two things I want to stress about versethirteen in chapter thirteen. It did not say, " and nowabideth ONLY faith. hope and charity" as some peoplehave tried to make it mean. Next, just because charityis last on the list does not make it the least; rather itis the greatest. But some folk try to say just becausetongues are last on the list in chapter twelve it is theleast of the gifts. That does not prove anything; some-thing had to be last on the list.Certain people have tried to make verse one ofchapter fourteen mean this: "Follow after charity and ;despise spiritual gifts." But they have not succeededin making everyone believe that. Notice it is just asmuch a command to desire spiritual gifts as to followafter charity. Both commands are in that first verse.

heard of people who spoke in unknown tongues whowere cursing, had the devil talking through them,or who were drunk or devil-possessed. We won't taketime to go into all of that, and try to prove it wrong;the Word of God forever stands to prove it wrong. After all the tales are told, which have been handeddown from generation to generation, the Word of Godstill says that anytime anyone speaks in an unknowntongue he is speaking to God and speaking in theSpirit. The Word will stand when the scoffers aredead. The anvil will remain after the hammers areworn out.Itmav be possible for some old devil possessed man,out in the mud hole, a drunken sot, to murmur andjabber. But that is not an unknown tongue. Had therenever been a genuine dollar there would never havebeen a counterfeit.

A counterfeit only proves the genuine. The Bible does not say that anyone ever cursedJesus as they spoke in an unknown tongue. If anyoneelse ever said that, he told a lie, for the Bible says

that unknown tong-ues are not understood by man.I will acknowledge that the unknown tongues whichPaul speaks of in this chapter were different to the

other tongues spoken in the upper room by the hun-dred and twenty people. which were other languages.Even the tongues in the upper room were spoken asGod gave the utterance. God would never utter any-thing wrong or obscene. The Scripture settles it whenit says that they were speaking the wonderful worksof God (Acts 2:11). That could never be wrong, andshould be welcomed at anytime. It is not the unknowntongue, or other tongues that raises the devil allover town and crittcizes God's people. It is the tongueyou can understand. Some well-trained man pointed out that the word"unknown" in this verse is italicized, which meansthat it was not in the Greek. There may not hayebeen a Greek word for the unknown, but the rest of theverse plainly says, in the most simple words, in yourown language, -that these tongues are unknown. Readit. "No man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirithe speaketh mysteries." This 'well trained man' wastrained to fight the power of God.

If you turn a man out of the church for one thing, turn the rest of them out for breaking the other com-mandment.The Bible does not teach charity without gifts, butcharity with gifts.Another thing is this: Charity is not some institutelike the Red Cross, Community Chest, or some benevo-

lent fund. In the Bible charity is the love of God. Thelove of God is shed abroad in your heart by the HolyGhost (Rom. 5:5). If you love the Lord He will giveyou the Holy Ghost, who gives all the gifts (John14 :15-16). Faith works by love (Gal. 1 :23). Faith isone of the spiritual gifts set in the church (I Cor. 12).Now abideth faith (ICor. 13:13).Do you desire spiritual gifts? Or do you despisespiritual gifts?Prophecy is one of the spiritual gifts (I Cor. 12).

God has set this gift in the church. Prophecy will notpass away before the great tribulations (Rev. 11 :3).Despise not prophesying (I Thes. 5:20). God commandsus to do three things in this verse: follow after charity, desire spiritual gifts (or set your heart on spiritualgifts) and desire to prophesy. If we say that we knowHim and do not keep His commandments we are aliar (I John 2 :4). All liars will have their part in thelake (Rev. 21 :8).

VERSE 2For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speak-

eth not unto men, but unto God: for no man under-standeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speakethmysteries."So the man who said that unknown tongues are only

other languages is wrong. God is right after all.Unknown tongues are mysteries in the Spirit. Not aman on the earth can understand them. The man whotold you that Paul was an educated man, who knewfourteen different languages, and his unknown tongueswere other languages which he learned, was mistaken.Had he talked in unknown languages no man couldunderstand. An unknown tongue is a heavenly lan-guage, which no one, not even the devil can listen in on.We have heard all kinds of fearful tales, told byfighters of God's power, who claim that they have

VERSE 4"He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieshimself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church."Before Paul could edify the church he first edified

himself. How could he edify the church if he did notfirst edify himself? Before he went to church and sawpeople delivered he first edified himself by praying intongues. (I Cor. 14:15, 18-19) Praying in tongues builtup his most holy faith. (1 Cor. 14 :4, Jude 20) You arecommanded to do the same. We are to earnestly con-tend for the faith once delivered to the saints. WhenPaul did not know what to pray for he let the HolyGhost make intercession through him which he couldnot utter, which brought the will of God to pass in hislife, and made everything work together for good.(Rom. 8 :26-28) Paul prayed in the Spirit, in a waythat people could not understand him. (I Cor. 14:15-16)This edified himself as he talked to God in a heavenlylanguage which the devil could not listen in on.Paul did a lot of things when he went to church.

He saw people healed, saved, filled with the Holy Ghost. He preached all night and saw a man raised from thedead. All this edified the church. How did he edify thechurch? He first edified himself by praying in anunknown tongue BEFORE HE went to church (verses14, 18, 19).Who wouldn't want to be edified? Who would not

want to be built up? People take medicine to build uptheir nerves, but if you want your nerves built justpray in tongues for an hour or so. This is the restwherewith He makes the weary to rest. This will pre-vent a nervous breakdown or a mental breakdown.(lsa. 28 :12)A man with the Holy Ghost has a mind seven times

better than the average mind. Science says that theaverage man forgets six-sevenths of what he learns.Jesus says that the Holy Ghost will bring to yourrememberance all things. Each school teacher should have the Holy Ghost

before she begins to teach. Every school child shouldhave the Holy Ghost before he starts to school!

If I wanted to know something about money I wouldnot go to a ditch-digger. If I wanted to know medicineI certainly would not go to a dairyman. If you want toknow about tongues don't ask a man who never spokewith tongues. Go to some man who has the experience.Don't ask the man who knows nothing about tongues, who says there is not such a thing, all because he neverhad the experience. One translation says the one who speaketh with

unknown tongues is speaking "spiritual secrets."Brother, the devil or any of his gang cannot listenin on your conversation with God if you are speakingspiritual secrets. The sabotage does not have a chance. The man without the Holy Ghost does not have theteacher (John 14 :26). The man without the HolyGhost does not have the author of the Bible thatmoved on the men of God to write the Bible (I Peter1 :21). The man who, has the author as his teachercan understand. He that deeth his will shall know ofthe doctrine, (John 7:17). If you were courting yourgirl-friend whom you were engaged to, and someonewould break into your mail, they would not understandyour secrets, especially if it were written in a codelanguage. A man without the Holy Ghost who tries tounderstand Paul's letter written to the church isbreaking into someone else's mail. This letter is an-ointed by the Holy Ghost, written by a Holy Ghostman to a group of Holy Ghost people.

VERSE 3"But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edi-fication, and exhortation, and comfort."The gift of prophecy is just as much a spiritual giftas the gift of tongues. A man that preaches a sermon,as we hear sermons, is not prophesying. Prophecy isa supernatural utterance, just as tongues, except itis in our own language. Preaching, as we know preach-ing is a ministerial gift while prophesying is a spirit-ual gift.Prophecy is not to "skin" people but to edify them.Prophecy comforts, encourages, builds, edifies, in-

    structs, consoles, and inspires.

will not permit me to tell you what a great meetingwe had.A year later I went back to that country. In a grovemeeting I noticed that Dee Faulkner was dryas ashuck! I went to him and asked him if he still spokein tongues. He said that he did not know that every-one should speak with tongues. I read him what Paulsaid, "I would that ye all speak with tongues." Otherpeople had told him the opposite. He finally decidedto believe the Word of GDd rather than the fighters. Then year after year when I saw him he was stillgoing strong, fighting the devil and speaking withtongues! Itis impossible to know how many souls hewon, not to speak of keeping the victory in his own soul.On the day of Pentecost they ALL spoke withtongues. At the household of Cornelius they ALL spokewith .tongues. (Acts 10) Down at Ephesus they ALLspoke with tongues. (Acts 19) Everywhere that itmentions tongues they ALL spoke with tongues asthey received the Holy Ghost. We can't find anywherein the entire Bible where people received the HolyGhost and only part of them spoke with tongues. Afterpeople had received the Holy Ghost Paul told themto continue to speak with tongues. He wanted themALL to speak with tongues! (verse 5)Speaking of the gift of "divers kinds of tongues,"Paul asked, "Do all speak with tongues?" (I Cor. 12)But speaking of just speaking or praying in tonguesPaul said, "I would that ye all speak with tongues."Just as you can be healed without having the gift ofhealing so you can speak with tongues without havingthe gift of divers kinds of tongues. Everyone whospeaks in a tongue does not have the gift of speakingin divers kinds of tongues. You may have faith withouthaving the gift of faith. God may answer your prayersometimes and work a miracle without giving you thegift of miracles.

Personally I don't ~ee why a man should resenttongues if it is a heavenly language. You are no betterthan Mary the Mother of Jesus, Peter, James, John,Thomas, Philip. The reason most people don't speak with tongues isthey just don't want to. A preacher in Fort Worthcame to me and told me he wanted the gift of healing.

VERS.E 5"I would that YE ALL speak with tongues, butrather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that pro-phesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, excepthe interpret, that the church may receive edifying."First, sound it out loud and long: Paul said that hewould that we all speak with tongues. Why? Becauseit builds up our faith and sets the weary at rest!Someone asked, "Do all speak in tongues?" The answeris No, but ye should.Speaking under the inspiration of the Holy GhostPaul said that he would that YOU speak with tongues. All Scripture is given by inspiration and is profitablefor doctrine, instruction and reproof, that the man ofGod may be perfected.

If you happen to be one of those people who havebeen confused; if someone has told you that God doesnot want you to speak with tongues; if you havereceived the Holy Ghost and the devil, or somebody, has told you that you must not continue to speakwith tongues, I want you to get this forever settledin your mind and heart right now: The will of Godis that everyone speaks with tongues;Twenty-five years ago in an old tabernacle, up inthe mountains, near a little sawmill village, at Athens,Arkansas, we had a Holy Ghost Revival. People threat-ened to come take my sister and me out of the taber-nacle for speaking in tongues and praising the Lord. The people of that community said if Clay Tiptonand Dee Faulkner would receive the Holy Ghost andspeak with tongues they would believe in it. Abouttwo dozen of us men were down in the woods havinga grove-meeting just before a night service. Servicehad already started. About nine o'clock Clay Tiptonand Dee Faulkner received the Baptism of the HolyGhost .. They had both been quiet men, but they werenot quiet now!

They beat me to the tabernacle. When I arrived allthe people were shouting. Clay Tipton was so happythat he lost his false teeth speaking with tongues.Every day and every night that "dry" Dee Faulknerwould pray in tongues. He built up his most holy faith. Many souls were saved, filled and healed as he prayedthe prayer of faith. The country was stirred. Space

CHAPTERS 6 TO 11All these six verses have one thought: they were

all written together:"Now, brethren, if I come to you speaking withtongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speakto you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or byprophesying, or by doctrine?"~d even things without life giving sound, whether

pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in thesounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?"For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, whoshall prepare himself to the battle?"So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words

easy to be understood, how shall it be known what isspoken'? For ye shall speak into the air."There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices inthe world, and none of them is without signification."Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice,I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and hethat speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me."The key phrase to these sentences i s this: "Breth-ren, if I come unto you speaking to you in tongues."Paul is not talking about praying in tongues, whichhe

by revelation, by a word of knowledge, or by prophecy,or by doctrine. If you want the inspiration of the Spirityou can explain to the people what God wants. If it isrevealed to you then you may stand and explain tothe. pe?ple. You may speak God's mind in prophecy, which IS equal to a message in tongues plus interpre-tation (verse 5). Or I have seen people read the Bibleor quote Scripture, even after service was over andinstruct the people concerning the mind of the Spirlt.By all means Paul makes it clear that if I come toyou speaking to you in tongues the words should beunderstood. But remember, if the message is interpreted it can

have as. much effect as the unknown language whichwas written on the wall of the King's palace thatbrought judgment down on the head of Belshazzarwhen he rejected it! The people were responsible whenthe man of God interpreted, even though they couldnot understand it!Recently I was told of two men who could speakFrench, and decided to try to fool a preacher who didnot know French. One of them quoted John 3 :16 in

French: The preacher arose to his feet and said, "Yourdays are numbered. You are weighed in the balanceand found wanting."The m~n went to the preacher and told him theypro.ved him wrong, that he gave the wrong interpre-~ab~n. The man' told them that God put those words

IIIhIS mouth. In three days both of those men droppedde~d. The man. was not interpreting what the fighterssaid at all, as It was not from God. The man gave aprophecy by the Spirit, which came to pass. It doesnot pay to criticize God's doing. How does a beer-guzzler, or a carnal man know when the tongues area prayer or a praise? The above six verses do nothave any reference to prayer or praise in tongues. They re~ulate the act of instructing people in tongues. You don t need the regulator if you have nothing toregulate.

The words "even so" shows that this verse is sum-ming up the six verses above. In short, he is sayingfor them to edify the church by interpreting theirmessages in tongues which address people. Tongueswith interpretation edifies the church. But rememberthat you will do little good in edifying the churchafter you arrive if you do not first get edified yourselfbefore you go to church. You edify yourself by prayingin tongues (verse 4). Most of it should be before yougo to church. IPaul paid those Christians a compliment when hesaid they were zealous of spiritual gifts. He commendedthem for it. He told them to use the gifts to edify andto build up. This we cannot say about everybody. Someare not zealous of spiritual gifts; rather they are jeal-ous of them and seek to tear down instead of buildingup. They don't edify. They "billify" and crucify!

    12

VERSE 13"Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknowntongue pray that he may interpret."Here is a kind of climax to the above seven verses. Therefore, if your people are continually giving outmessages and speaking to people in tongues, don'tmake them stop doing it, but it is the will of God to

give the interpretation. That is the way to excel. Thatis the way to edify. That is the way to build up insteadof tearing down.God will never ask you to pray for something and

then refuse to give you the thing He told you to prayfor. He is inviting everyone who gives a message intongues to receive the interpretation. There is thesolution! God gives the solution to every problem. After you begin to receive interpretations do not beafraid to give out a message in tongues. It helps thechurch (verse 5). Then you will not have any problemfound in the above verses. In this way the above verseswill not apply to your church. In this way you will notneed to sit back an(l wonder if there is an interpreterbefore you give a message in tongues, for if no oneelse interprets, you may.Recently a lady in Tulsa came to me after church

and asked if there was something wrong with her.She said I did not interpret her message and she won-VERSE 12"E. ven so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritualgifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of thechurch."

    13

dered if there was something wrong. She must haveoverlooked this verse that tells her that it is the willof God for her to interpret her own message if no oneelse does. So she had no one to blame but herself.

with groanings that he could not utter. He said thatthe Holy Ghost made intercession through him accord-ing to the will of God; then he knew that all thingswere working together for good. That is the only timewe know that all things work for good. The Holy Ghostnever prays through us contrary to God's will. But ifwe pray in our own words and in our own understand-ing we may pray contrary to God's will and then every-thing would not work together for good. (Rom.8 :26-29)Moffatt says this:' "My spirit prayeth but my mindis of no use to anyone." So you can very well see thatit is fine for your spirit to pray. This is when youreceive the answer to your prayer, when your spiritprays. But when we are praying in our own words, and in our own understanding, many times we speakwords with our mouth, but our spirit may not be pray-ing. What Paul is interested in here is people prayingin public, since he is talking about other people notunderstanding us. The next verses will show this: Itisa wonderful thing when we are at home, or somewhereout of the church, to pray in tongues, since it buildsour faith and edifies ourselves; since we must first beedified before we can edify the church. But when weare in church, when we are leading in prayer, or dis-missing in prayer, it is well for us to pray in a languagethat the public can understand. Of course, if the prayeris interpreted then the people will receive edification.

VERSE 14"For if I pray in an unknown tongue; my spiritprayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful."We have reminded you before that when you speakwith tongues you edify yourself (verse 4). You buildup yourself in the Lord. You must edify yourself beforeyou may edify the church. To edify means to build up.The Word of God says that you build up your mostholy faith when you pray in the Holy Ghost. How does it help you to pray in tongues if yourunderstanding is unfruitful? Sometimes it is best thatyour understanding is unfruitful. Had my understand-ing been fruitful one night, as I prayed in tongues,

I~o.uld have been too much afraid to pray. The HolySpirit prayed through me for hours. Then Idiscoveredthat a gang-fight was in the road near the house whileIwas praying. One man was dead. Who knows howm~n! :vould have been killed had Inot let the HolySpirit intercede through me that night! Who knowsthat man did not lay there and pray through to sal-vation before he died!Had my mother's understanding been fruitful, hadshe known what she was praying for, she would havebee~ too full of fear to pray. The Holy Spirit was inter-cedmg through her while the bullets were flying ove~my head. My boy friend died in the electric chair I

was unconscious for about eight hours at a time as Iwas under the influence of drink. Nevertheless mymother was faithful and let the Holy Spirit praythrough her for me.. The Holy Spirit prayed through me for hours onenight, After I prayed through and received the answerfrom God, God showed me in a vision what Ihad prayedf?r. '!v!-yb.rot~er in the Marines was saved for the firsttime IIIhIS hfe. Nine-tenths of his buddies were killedHe came. safely through the war. Icould relate dozen~of such mstances when souls were saved.Even Paul said that he did not know what he shouldpray for, but he let the Holy Ghost pray through him

VERSES 15 AND 16"W1-Jat is it then? Iwill pray with the spirit, andI will pray with the understanding also: Iwill singwith the spirit, and I will sing with the understandingalso."

If Paul did both Iwill also. You may, too .This verse is a continuation of the thought in thepreceding verse. Paul said he would pray in tonguesand also pray so people could understand him. Out ofthe church he spoke in tongues more than all themembers of that large church (verse 18), but in thechurch he prayed so people could understand him.He did the same thing with singing. While makingtents he sang in unknown tongues. While leading sing-ing in service he would sing so the people could under-

stand him. Singing in unknown tongues would edifyhim, but it would not edify the people unless it was in-terpreted. I have heard songs in tongues interpreted atchurch, which edified the church, and was all right.Ihave seen commercial, professional singers, at sing-ing conventions, with the smell of tobacco. and beeron their breath, reeling and walling their eyes, say,"Let's sing with the spirit and with the understandingalso." They did not stop to think that when you singwith the Spirit you sing in unknown tongues.

VERSE 17"For thou verily giveth thanks well, but the otheris not edified."This proves what has been said concerning the aboveverses. Nowhere in this chapter is Paul putting anyban on praising God in tongues or singing in tongues,or praying in tongues at home, or out of the church.Even if Y9U do so at church you do well except youdo not edify the people you are bringing the messageof song to unless you speak in their language or inter-pret what you are saying. So, that settles it, when you praise God in tonguesyou give thanks WELL. When you pray in tonguesyour spirit prayeth WELL. When you sing in tonguesyou sing WELL.Let's all say with Paul, "We will sing in tonguesand sing in our own language. We will pray in tonguesand pray in our own language also. We will praise Godin tongues and also praise Him in our own language."Will you say that?

VERSES 18 AND 19"I thank my God, I speak with tongues more thanye all:"Yet in the church I had rather speak five words

with my understanding, that by my voice I mightteach others also, than ten thousand words in an un-known tongue."One man said, "Paul is my preacher. He said hehad rather speak five words in his own understanding

than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue." Tosay that is to leave out two parts of what Paul saidill order to make it mean opposite to what Paul said.16

    9u

That man deliberately did violence to the Word of Godand is not worthy to teach the Holy Scriptures. That isnot the way Paul said it.Paul was not trying to get the people to not speakwith tongues. Rather he was encouraging them to usetongues. He was telling them how to use tongues. If Iwould give you a new car and come show you how todrive it, it would be my will for you to drive that car.Just because I showed you how to use the brake wouldnot prove that Idid not want you to operate the car.Rather it would show that Iwanted you to keep thecar and drive it. But the brake would do you no goodwithout the car.The most encouragement I received to speak withtongues is when Isee that Paul said that he spoke withtongues more than them all. If we have the New Testa-ment experience we will have the New Testament re-sults.Paul was not ashamed that he spoke in tongues. He boldly proclaimed that he thanked his God that hedid speak with tongues! If Paul was not too good tospeak with tongues, are you? If it did not embarrassPaul to speak with tongues should you stand backbecause of public opinion?Paul did most of his talking in tongues out of thechurch, while he was at work, or alone praying, forhe followed the sentence "I thank my God that I speakwith tongues more than ye all" with this: "Yet in thechurch ... " The thought was not finished. It all belongstogether.Put this down in your beok. The nineteenth verse isnot talking about praying, praising, or singing intongues, which builds you up in the faith. The morethe better. This verse is not talking about teachingpeople in tongues with an interpreter, that edifies thechurch and builds it up (verse 5). This verse is onlytalking about teaching people in tongues without aninterpreter. I know of no one today who does that. But the fighters leave out the main part of the versewhich says, "that by my voice I might teach others"and purposely try to get people to think Paul is speak-ing about any tongues, whether it is instructing people, praying, or singing. Many times, praying in tongues will do more good

in five words in a heavenly language than ten thousandwords in your own language. To sum it up, T will say so far in the above nineteenverses there is not a verse an eighth of an inch longthat discourages, limits, or puts a ban on praying intongues, singing in tongues, praising God in tongues,or speaking to people in tongues with an interpreter.

Again I want to say to the man who said that Paul'stongues were other languages which he learned, Paulmakes it very plain again here, if he spoke in tonguesit would not be with his own understanding.

VERSE 20"Brethren, be not children in understanding: how-

beit in malice be ye children, but in understandingas men."

When it comes to forgiving each other, when youhave a grudge, when you have an ill will or want todo something for spite, when you feel like you wantto injure someone, then you must be as simple as alittle child. A little child can be in a good humor andforgive and forget in five minutes.

But when it comes to understanding the things ofGod you must be as men. You cannot understand thethings of God unless you have the teacher which isthe Holy Ghost. Carnal minds can't understand thethings of the Spirit anymore than your old sow wouldunderstand things in vour living room if you broughther into your house. (Paul says in this same letter thata natural mind can't understand the things of theSpirit, 2:15.) A Spiritual mind can understand verywell what Paul teaches in verse 19, but a natural mantwists it around and tries to make it mean other thingsbecause he has never had that experience. Peter saysthat some men speak evil of the things they under-stand not. (2 Peter 2: 12)

to rest. Paul says that He was speaking about tongues.(Isa. 28 :11-12)Joel spoke about the Pentecostal experience. Peter

said that was what he was speaking of. (Joel 2; Acts2 :15-20) Habakkuk brought a message direct from theLord which said, "for I will work a work in your days.which you will not believe, though it be told you."(Hab. 15) Paul said that he was speaking of the HoI."Ghost being poured out in this age, "Behold ye desp is-ers, and wonder, anel perish: for I will work a work inyour days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe.though a man declare it unto you."

In fact all the prophets spoke of this Holy Ghostexperience. (Acts 3:24) Yet the carnal minds cannotunderstand it. just as the educated Pharisees wereconfused when the disciples in the Upper Room beganto speak a supernatural language!

Jesus says that tongues are one of the signs thatfollows the believer. You say that He did not meanunknown tong-ues. If you will 1 0 0 1 < in the Book of Arb;you will see that tongues are one of the signs thatfollowed. If you do not hear this message vou arefulfilling prophecy.

VERSE 21"In the law it is written, With men of other tongues

and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet forall that wiIJ they not hear me, saith the Lord."

In Isaiah 28, God says that only the ones who weresaved. could understand these things. The rest willfall backward, be broken, snared and taken. He saystongues is the rest with which He causes the weary

VERSE 22"Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to (hC'1l1 that

believe. but to them that believe nol.: but nronhcsvingserveth not for them that believe not. but for themthat believe."

As I said, and as Jesus said (Mark 16 :17), tonguesare one of the signs to follow al: believers, Tongueswhich are interpreted will edify t he church and thesame as prophecy (verse 5), but tongues which are notinterpreted are f'or a sign to the unbeliever .. Just ~IShappened at Pentecost in the Uppe r Room, when sin-ners hear people praising God in tongues they arepricked in their hearts. Thev ask. "What me'aneththis." If they will listen to the Spirit's pleading theywill also cry out, "What must we do to be saved?"They will turn to God as the people at Pentecost.Tongues caused the three thousand to ask, "Whatmeaneth this?"

Peter said the same thing that happened in theUpper Room would take place just before the sun is18 19

VERSES 23 TO 25"If therefore the whole church be come togetherinto one place. and all speak with tongues. and there

come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, willthey not say that ve are mad?""But if all prophesy, and theRe come in one thatbelieveth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all,he is judged of all:"And thus are the secrets of his heart made mani-fest; and so falling down on his face he will worshipGod, and report that God is in you of a truth."That would be as it were in the Upper Room. Theunbelievers came in and said that they were mad, ordrunk. Still it was a sign to them. Then Peter aroseand spoke to them in the language that they couldunderstand. They were convinced. They were con-verted. The secrets of their hearts were made mani-fest. They were pricked in their hearts. Peter told themthey killed the prince of Life. They were converted.Jesus' prayer was answered, "Forgive them, for theyknow not what they do."When they needed a sign they heard tongues. Whenthey needed to be convinced or judged they heardprophecy.

a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Letall things be done to edifying."If everyone will be led by the Lord in using thesegifts the secrets of the sinner's heart will be revealed. The; will fall down and report that God is in themof a truth.Paul had a healthy church. They came behind inno gift. (I Cor. 1 :7) He was commending them for. it.Everyone of them had a gift. If you have a church likethat then you may use Paul's regulator. In order to do all things unto edifying they mustinterpret their tongues when they are speaking topeople in tongues and instructing them (verse 5). Theymust prophesy. In order to edify they must first speakin tongues at home to edify themselves, and then usetheir gifts after they arrived at church. It certainly does not edify a church to fight gifts. This did not say all of them had a gift except thesong leader, the special singer, or old Sister Whoopen-diddle. They all had something. They did not have to

wait and pray and beg. They did not wait for thepreacher to have a nervous breakdown trying to getthem to pray through. They did not sit to be enter-tained. The preacher did not go on with the service andrefuse to give any of them a chance to do anything inthe service. He did not specialize on being an orator. They all had something when they arrived at church. They all had a chance to obey the Lord. It's no wonderthat some people do not bring anything to church; theynever get a chance to use what they have! Therefore, the secrets of people's hearts are not made manifest. They don't fall down and repent, but go away emptyhearted.

turned to darkness, just before the Lord comes. (Acts2 :15-20) Five signs were to take place just beforethe moon turns to blood. Tongues are one of them.Tongues are a sign of judgment just as the unknownlanguage written on the wall of the king's palace wasa sign of judgment. They were slain the same nightwho rejected the message which was interpreted bya man of God. When you hear people praising God intongues today you must realize that it is a sign thatthe sun 1 : : ; soon to turn to darkness and the Lord willappear, coming for His own!Paul repeats here that prophecy edifies the church. It comforts and exhorts. If a man is already saved he really does not need asign in order to believe.

VERSE 26"How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, everyone of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath

VERSE 27"If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let itbe by two, or at the most by three, and that by course;and let one interpret ."How many times is cne allowed to speak with tonguesin a single service? That all depends on how the Lord is leading in theservice. I have seen services that all of the people weresinging, or praying, or praising God in tongues. Maybe

all along through the service someone may be singing21

or praying in tongues in a low tone of voice in ordernot to disturb the service. How many messages is one allowed to give in tonguesin one service? That depends on how long the service is in many

cases, I have seen services about eight hours long.We started service as 2 :00 o'clock one Sunday after-noon. The best I remember, it lasted until about 2 :00o'clock in the morning. That service was about twelvehours long. I think there was one message given outin tongues in the early part of the service, telling thatGod was going to do something wonderful. About 6:00o'clock thai evening a lady was raised from the dead;that is, we thought she was dead. Her people weremaking arrangement.s to send after her folks. Then inthe latter part of the service a lady, who had just cometo church, and did not know how many messages hadbeen given out, spoke in tongues and told how Godhad even raised the dead in cur midst. Then near mid-night a message was given which caused people togive their hearts to God.Usually, in an ordinary service not over one messageis given in tongues. The subject may be on the sooncoming of the Lord; it may be instructing the saintshow to obey the Lord; or it may be a warning to theunsaved. Unless the service is unusually long, one mes-sage is usually all the Holy Spirit has us to speakwith tongues.Does the Bible teach for us not to give out over threemessages in tongues ill one service? No, we do not find that anywhere in the Bible; but

it stands to reason that the Holy Spirit would not givemany messages in one service, just as He would notmove on a preacher to preach several messages in hisown language. I have seen preachers preach more thanone message in one service. I have seen people give outmore than one message in tongues in one service. Thesame Spirit anoints them both to speak, whether themessage is brought in an unknown tongue, or thetongues you cap understand. Since the Lord is stillsovereign He can do what He wants to do.How many times is one allowed to speak with tonguesin one service? The Bible does not say. That is up to the Holy Spirit.

We cannot instruct the Holy Spirit what to do. He tellsus what to do.Rev. David Burris, the District Superintendent ofArkansas for twenty-one years, tells us that he was ina glorious service when people spoke in tongues thirty

times during that service. Each time someone spokein tongues someone came to the altar. There wereexactly thirty people saved that night. Who can in-struct the Lord? How would you know when to stop people fromspeaking with tongues? Is there a certain amount of

times they should speak? We don't worry nearly as much about stopping themas we do getting them started. That should be ourmain concern. The flesh does not like to praise theLord. The flesh wants to resist the Spirit and be stub-born with the Lord. However, we have seen over-zealous people who, after the Lord was through with them, keep trying tospeak with tongues. This might be after they hadspoken one time or ten times. I have also seen preacherswho kept trying to preach after the Lord lifts Hisanointing. They all operate with the same Spirit. Thepreacher and the one who speaks with tongues bothshould stop when the anointing lifts. Sometimes theykeep on in their own spirit. The Lord understands. Hewill bless in spite of our mistakes. If an honest person makes a mistake and speaks intongues after the anointing leaves we should be patientwith him and not embarrass him publicly.A man asked me. how would I know when to stopsomeone from speaking if there was not a certain num-

ber of times he should speak. I asked him how he wouldstop a man, who was out of order, who spoke onlyonce or twice. What does the verse in I Corinthians 14 :27 mean, which says, "If any man speak in an unknown tongue.let it be by twe, or at the most by three, and that

by course; and let one interpret"?Itmeans what Verse 29 does as far as the number ofspeakers, t he one difference is that Verse 27 is sneak-ing of a message in tongues while Verse 29 is speakingof a message in our own language. Verse 27 says lettwo or three speak with tongues, and one interpret.

Verse 29 says let two or three prophets speak andone judge. How do we know that Verse 27 means that two orthree people should speak? .Itcould not mean any other thing. We know that thisis not talking about the number of messages, for a mes-sage is not given out by a message. They are givenout by people. Paul said, "Let it be BY two, or at themost by three."We can also look at other translations to see howit reads.Moffatt's translation reads: "As for speaking in a'tcngue', let only two or at most three speak at onemeeting, and that in turn. Also let someone interpret."Phillip's translation says, "If the question of speak-ing with a 'tongue' arises, confine the speaking to twoor three at the most and have someone to interpret

what is said."Here is how it reads in Jamison, Fausset, Brown:"Not more than two or three might speak with tonguesat each service."Listen to Weymouth:"If there is speaking in a tongue, only two at themost three, should speak, one at a time, and one shouldinterpret."Burkley: "If someone speaks in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most three, each in turn, and let one give an interpretation."Matthew Henry's Commentary: "As to speaking inan unknown tongue he orders that no more than twoor three should do it in one meeting, and this notaltogether, but successively, one after another."Rev. Harold Horton, who wrote a very fine book on"The Gifts of the Spirit," says, "The words 'two' and'three' refer to different speakers, and not two or threefragments of one message by the same speaker."

If you want more information read The Pulpit Com-mentary, and most any commentary you pick un. Readbooks written by good men, as Donald Gee, Carl Brum-back, Smith Wig'glesworth, and scores of others. One good man asked, "How will we know how to stonthe people if we can't stop them at three utterances?"Don't try to stop them unless they are out of order;then do it in the same way had they only spoken once.

I am only saying this: You have no more Scripture forstopping anyone at three utterances than you do forstopping at two or four. What does the words "by course" mean? That means in turn. Itmeans, piece, portion, or allot-ment. Webster says it may mean "a succession; series;as, a course of lectures."For example: I saw a man and his wife, who camefrom Africa over to the United States, who preacheda message one night in the African language. It tookthem about forty minutes to preach that message. Theypreached one message, but it was in about seventycourses. She would preach a few sentences in Africanlanguage; then she would stop and let him tell uswhat it meant. Then she would speak some more. That was the way the people spoke in unknowntongues in the Early Church. Someone spoke in anunknown tongue a sentence or two. Then he wouldstop and let someone interpret it. Then he would speakagain. Maybe he spoke fifty courses in preaching onemessage in tongues. He spoke it in courses for theconvenience of the people. Not long ago the king from Arabia came to Dallas. The paper told how he was accepted in the best hotelin town. His dinner was served in seven courses. Justas he had a seven-course dinner, we may have a seven-course message in church in unknown tongues. In the Bible days the people sang by course. (Ezra3 :11) One would sing one part; then another wouldsing a part. King David's choir practiced doing that.People could hear his high-sounding cymbals for milesaway. One man would sing, "0 give thanks unto theLord, for he is good." Some more would say, "For hismercy endureth forever." Just as more than one ofthem could have a part in singing by course; so twoor three may have a part in bringing a message bycourse. (l Cor, 14:27)Suppose a fourth man would join in, giving out amessage and speaking with tongues; is he out of order? It is not a crime. Itmay be an honest mistake. But itis better if he will let the three who started to give outthat message go ahead and speak. It keeps down con-fusion where there are hundreds of zealous people inthe church. But in most of the churches our main

trouble is getting even two or three willing to obeyGod, face opposition. and be used of the Lord:Suppose John, Elizabeth, and Jane. are being usedof the Lord in giving out a message l.n tongues. Johngives out two courses and quits. Jane give out a cours~;then Elizabeth gives out a course. Suppose the Lord !snot through with the message. Elizabeth had to slipout and go home. Jane had to run to the nursery to ~erbaby. John lost the anointing while he was lookingfor a song. If the Lord wants to finish the message andtells me to give out a course. He can do as He wants to.I would not be to blame. One of the first three whospoke would be to blame for not keeping the anointing.Does not the term "any man" mean that only oneman is speaking? No, it does not. It means plural or singular. Itis anindefinite noun. It means some or any, a party orwhosoever. It comes from the Greek word "Oudis."Feminine is included. It may mean man or woman. It is neuter gender. It would be very simple if we would just see howPaul used the same expression "any man" in this sameletter to the Corinthians.

"If any man defile the temple of God, him shall Gaeldestroy. (I Cor. 10:17)This can be one man or any amount of men, orwomen."If any man that is called a brother be a fornicator.or covetous . . . with such an one no not to eat"(lCor. 5 :11)This could include man or woman, one or more.

"But if any man love God, the same is known ofhim." (8 :3)This can mean one or many."But if any man think that he behaveth himselfuncomely toward his virgin."This may mean one man or any amount of men."But if any man say unto you, this is offered insacrifice unto idols ... " (10 :28)This includes just anyone if you will read the con-text."If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let himbe accursed." I Cor. 16 :22)We will all agree that this would include man or

woman, one or more."But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant."(14-38)All the above quotations are found in the same letterthat contains I Corinthians 14 : 27, written by the sameman, Paul. This letter was not even divided into chap-ters and verses at that time. In every instance we seethat the term "any man" means man or men. You cantrace this term through the Bible where it is used inscores of places. It means one or many. So Paul wassaying, "If people speak with tongues, let it be by twoor by the most by three."Suppose that someone speaks with tongues, thewhole message in one course?I had that experience in a church during a revival. It was causing confusion. The church did not havejudges appointed. So I asked God for a word of wisdomwhat to do. I did not feel like doing anything at allabout it. Then one night after service the man cameto me privately (God must have sent him). He asked

me if he was in order speaking with tongues. Then Ihad a chance to talk with him, he and I alone, as theBible instructs. (Matt. 18 :15) I told him to stop abouthalf a minute or so and give someone a chance tointerpret. From then on he did that, and made a won-derful worker for God. We had a great revival. Hun-dreds received the Holy Ghost. Hundreds received for-giveness of sins.Suppose you are in a church that believes that it iswrong to speak with tongues over three times in oneservice?I had that experience. Privately I told the pastor,in a morning prayer meeting, where about a dozenpeople were gathered together in prayer. He told meto teach it to those people.N early a hundred people had already received theHoly Ghost. Things were going well. Then public opin-ion caused that dear pastor to change his mind andteach that it was wrong to speak in tongues the fourthtime. I asked the Lord what to do. In a dream he toldme to quietly leave the state, which I did.In the next state some high church officials tried to

send me back to teach the right way, but I would notbe persuaded to go back and cause enemies.2 6 27

Would God always tell you to leave a church or acountry where Full Gospel people do not see the tr~th,but believe that people must be stopped the fourth timethey speak with tongues? Not every time. One time I was in a very fine churchthat had been taught that the fourth time to sneakwith tongues was wrong. Hundreds of people had beensaved and hundreds of people had already received theHoly Ghost. Hundreds of people had been healed oflameness, deafness, and blindness and such. One night the fine pastor, being very tired. stayedat home to do some work which he needed to do. Itsohappened that we had a glorious service that night. Many people were delivered. But I could hardly preachin my own language. I spoke with tongues. Many finepeople were saved. But I did yield to God and speakthe fourth time. The next day the pastor very gracefully came to meprivately and told me that he was told that I spokethe fourth time in tongues. He said that he had beentaught that only three utterances should be allowed inone service. The revival was so wonderful. Souls were so precious.I did not argue with that man of God. I did not tryto prove my point. I asked God for a word of wisdom. He told me to stay. People kept being saved and filled. There remained a most wonderful Spirit in that meet-ing.One night later on God moved on me to give out amessage in tongues. To my surprise He led me to dothis: I spoke two courses, about five minutes each andinterpreted them. There was one message in the twocourses. We had just as much results. People werehappy, although I spoke with tongues just as muchas I did the other time, but not as many fragmentsof one message. God loved those precious people. Heloved me. So He arranged it so we worked togetherwithout any friction.Must there be a certain one to interpret? We do not seevthat there must be an "official inter-preter," or a certain one to interpret in every service. That Verse 27 means to "let someone interpret."

It is good to let an elder, or someone who is experi-enced go ahead and interpret in the main services.

I know one pastor, with a big church, who was con-fronted with a problem: He had six women who hadthe gift of interpretation, who wanted to interpreteach service. After praying, God gave him a word ofwisdom and told him what to do. At the beginning ofeach service he appointed a certain sister to keep theanointing to interpret in that service. The next timehe would change to another. It worked perfectly. I don'tsee any difference in doing that than calling on a cer-tain preacher to preach. or a certain man to pray forthe sick in a given service. No preacher is forced to wait for a certain personcalled an official interpreter" to come to church beforea message in tongues can be interpreted. The one whospeaks in tongues may interpret if it becomes neces-sary (Verse 13).

VERSE 28"But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silencein 1he church: and let him speak to himself and t~)God."If he is speaking he is not keeping silence. Manypeople only quote the first part of this verse. tryingto make it mean for him to keep silence.

If no one interprets your message, and if you do nothave the interpretation yourself, then there are tW0things you must do, or two ways you may speak withtongues: Instead of trying to instruct people in tonzuesyou may (1) pray in tongues. and you may (2) praiseGod in tonzues, just so vou don't disturb the service. You will get as much results. many times, if you nraiseGod in a whisper while service is going on. The HolyGhost does not interrupt Himself. How do you sneak to God in tongues? Verse 2 tellsyou nlainlv.' "For he that sneaketh in an unknowntongue speaketh not unto men. but unto God."How do you speak to yourself in tongues? Read iL"And he not drunk with wine. wherein is excess : but.BE FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT: Sneaking to your-self in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs ... with the Spirit ,\'OU may speik to yourself in "spiritualsongs," Paul said 1hat when you sing in the Spirit noone can understand you, Itis unknown to you, (Verses14 to 16)You sa," that this means that you sing in your ownlang uatre under 1 he anointing, No. that is what Paulmeans when he savs, psalms, and hymns, They are tobe under the anointing. But to sing in the Spirit yousing so no one can understand You.

VERSE 29 AND 30"Let the prophets speak two or three. and let theother judge.""If a nv th ing he revealed to another that sitteth bv,let the first holrl his peace."Verso 29 means the same thing as Verse 27 as faras the number of speakers is concerned. Two or threepeople should speak in tongues and one must interpret. Two or three prophets should speak and one judge.VERSE 31"For ye mav all prophesy one by one, that all maylearn, and all be comforted."Some of the people thought that perhaps Moseswould be jealous because two men prophesied in thecamp. But Moses said that he wished that all of God'speople were prophets and God would put His Spiritupon them. (Num. 11 :29) People seemed surprisedbecause Saul, direct from the plow-handles, prophesied.God says all of His people may prophesy, just so itis clone" one bv one. That rules out the fact that wegive people all oyer the house permission to all get upand speak for God at one time. In the Upper Roomthey all spoke in tongues at once, but when it came

to instructing people, only Peter .spoke.What is the difference in these two verses? Verse 31says only two or three prophets may speak. Verse 32says all of God's people may prophesy. The prophetshave a ministerial gift (Eph. 4) and hold the officeof a prophet. Any member of the church may prophesy, which is a spiritual gift. (I Cor. 12)VERSE 32"And the spirits of the prophets are subject to theprophets."Some folk think this means that you can turn thegifts on and off at will and use them anytime youwant to. But in the Bible days the gifts used the people

    30

instead of the people using the gifts. The spirits ofthe prophets are subject to the prophets, but the Spiritof God is not subject to the prophets. There are a few people who are reallv sincere. whoreally are trying to do something for God. 'When theyfeel the anointing they immediately try to give out amessage. Maybe the Lord is anointing a man to preach,to work miracles, or to heal the sick. Mavbe the giftof the word of wisdom is in operation. Mavbe the altarcall is being made. These honest, sincere people. whenthey feel the anointing. do not realize the Lord ismanifesting another gift. So they try to give out amessage. They start to prav in tongues. These peoplemake the best of Christians after they sneak in tonzucsat home enough to edify themselves. so they will knowhow to yield to tongues at church. They just need tolearn that the Lord does not want to give out a mes-sage in, tongues in every service. Sometimes He wantsto manifest the gift of healing or some other gift.VERSE 33"For' God is not the author of confusion, but of peace.as in all churches of the saints."

Tf ali prophesy at once, or if three try to interpretat once; if three people give out 11 message in tonguesat one time; if three people try to preach at one time;if people' will do nothing but try to give messages intongues when God is manifesting the gifts of healing.the service might end up in confusion. But I know ofno one in our day who tries t.o do that.God is the author of peace; The peace of God isshed abroad in our hearts by the Holv Ghost.VERSES 34 TO 39These verses have to do with women speaking inthe church+It seems that there was a certain restric-tion on women speaking in the early church. But Godplainly said that in our day. just before the coming ofthe Lord, just before the moon is turned to blood. thatthe women and the girls would be prophesv ing. That isone of the signs, along with tongues, that judgmentis soon to fall on this sin-cursed world. (Acts 2 : 15-20)VERSE 39"Wherefore, brethren, covet to nrophesv, and FOR-BID NOT TO SPEAK WITH TONGUES."

as the sin of witchcraft and stubbornness is as iniquityand idolatry. (I Sam. 15 :23) Paul, in the whole chapter, did not once forbid people to speak with tongues. Heonly regulated tongues, proving that he wanted themto continue speaking. If you forbid people to speakwith tongues in your church, you are breaking acommandment.

oVERSE 40"LET ALL THINGS BE DONE decently and in

order."Brother if the Holy Ghost does it, regardless if itis speaking with tongues, interpreting, or prophesying,it is always decent and in order. Many people believe in the last part of this verse, but they do not believe in the first part of it, whichsays, "Let all things be done." If all things are doneto edifying then the sinner will fall down and reportthat God is in you of a truth, because the secrets ofhis heart are made manifest.Paul regulates speaking to people in tongues. It isalright to regulate if you have something to regulate. But some people have the horse ridden to death, almost. The horse has not been fed. You can count every rib.Paul nowhere discourages praying in tongues, whichbuilds up your faith and brings to pass the will of Godin your life. Even if you do not give messages intongues, let me encourage everyone of you to staybefore God until the Holy Ghost intercedes through youin a heavenly language, and brings your loved ones toGod! There are people now in hell that you could havewon to God had you had this wonderful gift that praysthrough you and builds up your most holy faith. He isnear you now! Reach out and receive the Holy Ghost;then let Him do his office work 0{ intercession throughyour life.

This is how to have a revival in our time: Every-where I have gone, when the people let the Holy Spirithave His way, a revival was the result. Great numberswere saved, filled with the Spirit and healed. He is everpresent to do the work if He is not resisted or grieved.Creeds, tradition, and man-made forms hinder the HolySpirit from bringing a revival. "Not by might, nor bypower, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord."
