DACA – Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, should not ever have

been an issue. There is no justice, no fairness, in deporting persons who

were brought here by their parents when they were children. There is no

strategic interest of the United States in deporting these 800,000 or so.

There is no reason whatsoever to do this. But there is a problem. The

original protection was by Pres. Obama (as Congress could not pass

anything), so now DJT can nullify that with the stroke of a pen.

Congress can fix this problem by granting a path to citizenship for all

these persons – and they can do it now. There are Republicans and

Democrats willing to support legislation that will protect the so-called

“dreamers” from DJT’s deportion notice – regardless of what he says,

which is expected to be announced on Tuesday.

What do say?

• Please support legislation that will regularize the legal status of

persons currently under the DACA program.

• Please support the most compassionate, the most long-term

solution for these persons that can pass the U.S. Congress. These

people were brought here as children who are still

“undocumented.” We need legislation to enable them to continue

their lives without fear and continue contributing to their families,

communities, and this country.

• (Personalize it if you can. If you know someone who is in this

status, hold up for them. Tell your own story).

It is expected that legislation will be introduced this week, so please

send an e mail or make a call on labor day, or on Tuesday.

U.S. Representatives have made it increasingly difficult to simply send

e-mail to all of them, so they don’t list their emails! Click on the name of

your congressman/woman, below, and go through their web site to get to

their email info. Or, just call!! Or text “resist” to 50409. Or put

“resistbot.io” in your browser, and follow the instructions.

SAVE THE CONSTITUION! Big Fun Rally Day.

September 12, rally to save the constitution. On the Capitol lawn. 9 to 11 a.m.

Speakers, music, costumes!!

Rep. Kelli Townsend’s and other Arizona Legislators are hosting a nation-wide

meeting to “practice” how they might be able to call and carry out an Article V

Convention that would create a “balanced budget amendment” or other extreme

Page 3: The VUU / UUJAZ Week 44 Action DACA an issue that shouldn’t befiles.vuu.org/uujaz/2017/alert-090417.pdf · Arizona Legislative Alert – Week 44 Action DACA – an issue that shouldn’t

restrictions on the federal government. This meeting will go on for three days, Sept

12-15 in Phoenix, at the state capitol. Article V conventions are a second (never used)

way to amend the U.S. Constitution and most constitutional scholars think it is a

REALLY RISKY idea, as the risk of a “runaway” convention is high and could go

well beyond whatever the original instructions are, just as the current constitution

went well beyond the instructions to “amend” the Articles of Confederation. So, this

is a practice session!!!

This will be to show those attending that we like the US

Constitution as it is, and that they should NOT put it in

jeopardy by moving forward with these “Article V” Convention

ideas.

There’s a paper on Article V conventions at http://www.vuu.org/legislative-advocacy

and lots of information on the web.

The Rally: 9 a.m. to noon, Capitol lawn (1700 W. Washington St. Phoenix). Come

dressed as your favorite revolutionary war hero if you want. Wear red white and

blue if you want! The rally is Hamilton the musical themed and there are great

speakers and great music lined up. https://www.facebook.com/savetheconstitutionrally/

Resistbot.io - What’s that? Put that in your browser and you

should get a screen that will help you send letters, fax, phone, e-mail the U. S. Senate

and/or your U.S. Representative or even the Governor or maybe a cabinet officer.

Several times I have sent a fax very quickly to all three of my congress people). This is a

free service, reportedly developed by volunteers. It will ask for your zip code or

address, and then you can send a fax, letter, make a phone call, send an e-mail to Sen.

Flake and McCain and the House member as well.

After you have sent several, it will ask you which of the various people you want it sent

to. At first, it just sends to all three. You get more services after you’ve used it awhile!

OR, just text “resist” to 50409.
