Fall is fast approaching and there are a lot of great things happening at Holy Trinity. While there is transition happening, I have resigned and my last day is October 15th, Holy Trinity has so many great opportunities to get involved in ministry and hear God’s good news. One of the biggest changes is our fall worship schedule. We will continue to worship at 9am on Sunday morn-ings, and restart Wednesday night worship at 7pm on September 14th. Sundays will feel much the same as they have in the past, with a
blended style of worship. Wednesdays will be more contemporary in feel, and a bit shorter as well. Hopefully one of these two options will help you find a way to continue to hear God’s word of grace for your lives. I also want to invite you to join us for our Open House Sunday and Wednesday. On Sunday, September 11th, we will have a continental breakfast and a “resource fair” of many of Holy Trini-ty’s ministries. This is a great opportunity to see how you might become more involved in the mission of the church. On Wednesday, September 14th, we will have the same resource fair and meal beginning at 5:30pm. Please come and join us for one of these two dates, and don’t be afraid to invite someone new to join you. Finally, I want to reassure you that the Church Council and the Synod staff will be working hard at ensuring a good transition in the coming months. I ask that you keep Holy Trinity and me and my family in your prayers. Transitions can be anxious times, but the more that we look to God to provide, the less anxious we will be. Prayers and dialogue will help keep Holy Trinity a thriving community that knows peace. Blessings be upon you!! Peace, Pastor Erick

Notes from the Finance Committee:
With September comes “Back to School” for the kids, Back to “Routine” for most families and Back to the “Normal” for the church. As we charge ahead into the fall season at HTLC, it is fun to look back and reflect on a great sum-mer . Despite the summer slow down within a church, HTLC was still “hopping.” Last month, the first annual Rib Fest was held and was a huge success. Vacation Bible School had the maximum number of kids for the volunteers that helped out. We had an incredible turn out for the “Used a Bit Sale” as the church looked more like a shop-ping center for the weekend. Despite being a slow month for churches, HTLC found a way to stay very active this summer! Attendance at the Sunday services was down in Ju-ly. Many families were out of town enjoying the summer and as a result revenues were off for the month by approxi-mately $4,500. We are hopeful to recapture this revenue in the fall when families resume regular worship. On the ex-pense side, Expenses were approximately $7,000 over budget with some necessary expenses relating to the build-ing & office maintenance. These were limited and should not reoccur in the months to come. Management remains very aware of the financial picture of HTLC and is very con-servative on the money spent, spending only what is re-quired.
The slow summer season for the church is June, July, and August. HTLC is no exception. In June, we fell behind budget $9,000. July’s short fall is nearly $11,000. Year To Date, we are nearly $30,000 short of budget. While the number seems large, in reality it is less than $10/week per household. However, we are still optimistic we will see a rebound coming into fall. Please continue to consider the needs of the church and its
mission when reviewing your giving this fall. Have a great
September!

Rib Fest Update Rib Fest was held on Friday, July 29th and it was
an overwhelming success! We had over 300
people come through the gates to enjoy deli-
cious food, cold drinks, and great community
fellowship. There were many new faces
amongst the crowd and the word out on the
street was that Rib Fest was a hit!
Thanks to the many volunteers that set up,
cleaned up, served food and drinks, sold tick-
ets, entertained the kids, and kept us safe. We
could not have done it without you! Thank you
to Tim Price for your gift of music! Thank you
to the Property Team members that gave the
playground area a facelift with new mulch.
Thank you to Pastor Erick, Dean Podratz, Paul
Newton and Pat Remfert for getting soaked in
the dunk tank.
The New Prague Times provided great news
coverage and there are many pictures on their
website (see the Blue Button).
Lastly, all profits from Rib Fest will be going to
Let’s Go Fishing.
We look forward to hosting Rib Fest again next
summer! If you are interested in being a part
of the planning team, please contact Jeremy
Torgerson, Karen Taylor, or Lona Rookaird.
Save the Date!
The second annual Trunk or Treat is just around
the corner! Mark your calendars for Saturday,
October 29th! More details coming soon!!

Kim’s Council letter to the Holy Trinitarians (September 2016)
I am one of the newbies on Church Council - as my term began January 2016.
I have attended Holy Trinity since 2000 when I moved to New Prague. My husband, Bryan Starkey, and I have two grown children. Tyler is in the Air Force, he and his wife, Brandi, live in Oklahoma City, OK. Our daughter, Sarah, lives in Duluth. MN and is a recruit-er for United Health Group. I have been involved in Holy Trinity in many ways over the last 16 years, most recently as a member of the Shared Ministry team dur-ing the strategic plan process. When I was asked to serve on church council I initially laughed off the request and moved on. I was contacted again and still was hesitant to serve. I questioned what skills I could bring to council. A few people on the call committee, whom I respect very much, took the time to talk to me about my concerns and help convince me that I did have talents that would contribute to council. I also re-alized that if everyone said No when they were asked to serve at Holy Trinity, there would not be a church to attend. During my short tenure on council, I have met a lot of new people in the congregation. If you attend the same service all the time you get used to seeing the same people. Council has helped me branch out and meet others. Why am I mentioning my reservations to serve? This is such an exciting time for our church while we implement the Strategic Plan. I would like you all to consider your unique gifts and think of the ministry opportunities at Holy Trinity. Where can you minister? All of us are ministers for our church and without us, there would be no ministry. Speaking of the Strategic Plan, one of the questions that came up during the August Council meeting was, “Are we doing enough to communicate, to the church, the progress of the Strategic Plan now that we are in the implementation phase?” Council gets monthly updates and we often mention it in our newsletter articles…but if you have questions or would like to be involved in one of the stake-holder groups, contact the church office, or feel free to contact a church council member.
As I mentioned, I am involved in the shared ministry team. Here are a few updates on our work:
Rib Fest was held on July 29th and was a successful event. We sold 246 tickets, right within our goal. After speaking with several attendees, those who are a part of the HLTC family and individuals in the community, we have plans to make Rib Fest 2017 bigger and better! This event is Part One of our goals to increase visibility of HLTC by creating three signature events that “make our church better known to area residents.” These events will be open to the entire community, not just those who attend HLTC.
The other two signature events, Trunk or Treat at Halloween and the Christmas Tea are coming up.
Mark your calendars for Thursday, December 1, 2016 for the Christmas Tea. This is a wonderful event to help women in the commu-nity kick off a busy holiday season. Personally speaking, it is a relaxing event that helps me remember the reason for the season and move through Advent and Christmas with calm and remembrance. We will be looking for table hostesses and also men to help serve. If you have any questions on that event, feel free to get in touch with me [email protected].
As the seasons change and we move from summer to fall, things may be getting more hectic for you, take a moment to reflect on
God’s grace and goodness. Thank Him for the direction he is giving to HLTC and please pray for guidance and success for the Stra-
tegic Plan.
Blessings.

Middle School Youth Group
School is back in session! Fall sports and other activities are in full swing, and Youth Group and Confirmation will begin in a few weeks. We are a BUSY community! With the addition of Wednesday Night services, the middle school youth group will look a little different. However, we will still be doing some AMAZING, FUN, and EXCITING ac-tivities intertwined with learning lessons about GOD and our relationship with Jesus. Stay tuned for monthly activities and other opportunities to be involved at church!
Please contact Melissa Horejsi at [email protected] or 952-215-4340 for more information
This is a very exciting time of year for Sonshine Preschool! We have
been busy getting all of the classrooms ready to welcome back famil-
iar faces and welcome new families into our program. We have a fun
year planned with fieldtrips, family events, classroom visitors, an awe-
some curriculum, and a great staff! Our open house for registered
families will be September 1st at 6:00p.m. We also welcome new fam-
ilies that night who are interested in looking at the preschool.
Our Tuesday/Thursday morning class still has openings, which will have before and after care
available. We also have openings in our all day Monday/Wednesday Pre-K class. If you would
like a tour, please call the church at 952-758-3513 to set it up.
Once again we will host a float in the Dozinky Parade! If you would like to walk with us, or help
us prepare our float, please let us know. THANK YOU to Bob & Liz Nelson for lending us a trac-
tor, trailer, and driver for the parade! We are also looking for donations for candy to hand out in
the parade. We never have enough, no matter how hard we try to hand out just a little at a time.
Candy can be dropped off in the church office.
Please watch for our upcoming fundraiser of Papa Murphy pizza cards! We will have them for
sale during the church open house on September 11th & 14th. They are also available for sale in
the Sonshine Preschool at any time.
Blessings to all as we begin a new school year!

Wednesday Evening Worship Assistants We have opportunities for worship assistants for Wednesday evenings starting September 14th.
Greeters, Ushers, Communion Assistants, & Readers
These positions are very important for the flow of the service, but they are not difficult to
complete. Worship Assistants can be Confirmation students and older. (Parents – this is a
great way to earn service hours for Confirmation and National Honor Society!) If you are
interested in sharing your gift of time and a friendly smile, please connect with
Karen Taylor, Ministry Coordinator in person, by email or by phone at
[email protected] or 952-758-3513
Opportunities to serve!
Wednesday Evening Crew Leaders
Our new Wednesday night programs are looking for leaders who are willing to work with a
small group of children for 40 minutes. Crew Time, our program for children preschool-4th
grade, will meet from 6:15-6:55 p.m. Within the 40 minutes, each leader will lead a 20 mi-
nute “station” of art, science, bible lesson, or games. Leaders will rotate weekly and are not
required to commit to every week. If you are interested please contact Ministry Coordina-
tor, Karen Taylor at [email protected] or Interim Children, Youth & Family Di-
rector, Sonja Nelson at [email protected].
Bring on the change September is synonymous with change. The change of seasons,
the change of a school year, and the change of routines. Like most
parents, I welcome the change in routine and the familiarity that a
new school year brings. But for some, change is a negative word.
In my mind, change equals the opportunity for growth. Physical
growth, emotional growth, spiritual growth…I could go on and on.
Holy Trinity has experienced many changes over the last nine
months since adopting the Strategic Plan in January. The Strategic
Plan has been the tool we have utilized to focus our intentions.
Some obvious areas of change are the additional screen in the worship space, Wednesday evening
worship with meals, and the formation of a Call Committee for an Associate Pastor. Even Rib Fest
was born out of the Strategic Plan! Over the past nine months, Holy Trinity has been like a butterfly
emerging from a cocoon that it was trapped in for the last five years. In my eyes, this is a very posi-
tive thing.
But we cannot lose our focus amidst all of this change. We cannot focus only on achieving goals and
objectives in the Strategic Plan. Our big goal is simple – accepting and inviting others to share God’s
word. When was the last time you introduced yourself to a newer member or a first time visitor?
When was the last time you invited someone to join you as you served God? When was the last time
you stepped out of your comfort zone and opened yourself up to the possibility of change? At Holy
Trinity, we have many upcoming opportunities to invite others to share God’s word. Our Open House
on Sunday, September 11th and Wednesday, September 14th will showcase the various opportunities
available for all ages. I challenge you to invite someone new to Holy Trinity for the Open House
events. I look forward to seeing many unfamiliar faces!
Holy Trinity wants your membership to be meaningful. We have many positive changes occurring this
fall and we hope that you will discover how rewarding it can be to join in the mission and ministry of
the church. If you are ready to get started on this great journey, please email me at volun-
[email protected] or call the church office at 952-758-3513.
Blessings,
Karen Taylor Ministry Coordinator

Ministry is a program for high school students to learn listening and communication skills, how to welcome the
stranger, and live out their faith. Peer Ministry equips students with skills for caring, welcoming and affirming so
they may live every day, everywhere and in every relationship as loving children of God because Christ first loved
us. The training—which looks GREAT on job and college applications—is for four weeks on Wednesday nights,
September 21st—October 12th from 6:00-6:55 p.m. For more information or to sign up, please contact Interim
