House and Grounds Committee
The House Committee (HC) has held meet-
ings twice since Jan.1 trying to catch up on things and
we are making good progress. All entities of our or-
ganization are well represented in the HC and I feel
that is reflected in our decision making process for the
general membership. Feel free to contact any of us
with your concerns. Names of HC members are posted
in the entrance hallway.
A few more suggestions have filtered in and
one in particular resulted in a House Rules change.
The entire interior space of the Memorial Home build-
ing is now "tobacco free" including smokeless tobacco.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding on
this action to improve our facility. There is a tally
sheet posted above the suggestion box on the sugges-
tion voting results for all suggestions. I also add that
the HC reads and acts on ALL suggestions received
because it is YOUR voice concerning YOUR club.
There is still a rumor of a benefit yard sale in
our parking lot sometime in the spring. Keep an eye
open for the dates on the bulletin board and in a future
newsletter.
Again, thanks to the recent volunteers who are
helping in the efforts of maintaining our facilities.
SAL member Larry Swartz has been very active and
his efforts in cleaning, organizing and repair work have
helped tremendously. SAL member Troy McIntyre has
also contributed with lighting efforts in the former pool
table area and Post members, Ed Clopper and Bill
Newkirk need to be recognized for their help in clean-
ing and organizing. As always, we would love to have
more volunteers to help with the cleaning and mainte-
nance of our facilities. Together we can make a differ-
ence. If you have spare time this winter and want to
offer some skills (all levels) and time, please contact
Bill Hose at 240.291.0835.

noons/evenings with very flexible tee-times and tour-
naments monthly. For more info contact Todd Hull @

A Message From The Adjutant
A Message From The Club Manager
My thanks to all who have paid their dues, and a
reminder to those who have yet to pay: If your dues remain
lapsed you will lose your continuous years service!
If you are not certain about your status, feel free to
contact me on 717-597-8932 or at [email protected].
To speak to me in person come to the next meeting the 20th
of this month at 7pm. I am directly responsible for all
membership mistakes – please pardon me and be assured
that I am working to correct all.
In your service,
Ed Clopper, Adjutant
The March 17th tradition of wearing green is explained in differing ways. It's said that blue was
originally the color associated with the holiday but over time green took over in popularity due
to Ireland's nickname as "The Emerald Isle", the green in the Irish flag and the clover that St.
Patrick used in his teachings about Catholicism.
It might be cold outside, but you can warm up in
the Clear Spring Legion. There is plenty to do, good food,
give away, brunches, grab bag night, and the 100 club
drawing coming up March 22nd. Tickets are on sale at
the bar. $30.00 per ticket with one guest. Good food,
money to win, and who doesn’t like money? There is even
a dance after the drawing. Dance the night away from 9-
12. All for $30.00, can’t beat that!
Don’t forget, if you haven’t paid your dues, come
in or mail them to Clear Spring Legion P.O. Box 158
Clear Spring, MD 21722. Pay your dues and keep up
your continued years of membership. Legion $25, AUX
$20, and S.A.L. $10.
Bingo is every Tuesday so come out and enjoy
some good food, good times, and you may even win a
game or two of Bingo. A big thanks to all the volunteers
that work Bingo night, the callers, the money collectors,
and our employees. Our employees do a great job in help
keeping the Legion open. Thank You!
A special thank you to Mary House, Jill Baum and
Deb Bivens for setting up and decorating our Legion for
Valentine’s Day Dinner. Great job, thank you.
Thank you to our House Committee for the good
job they are doing here at the Legion and to Bill Hose,
even though he is a Dallas fan.
Thanks to Mark Clopper for letting me use his
snow blower to clean around the building. With that big
snow we had, it sure beats me shoveling it all.
S.A.L.
S.A.L. and the Fire Company is having its Gun
Drawing Saturday, June 7th, at the Pavilion. It opens at
11:30 am with good food and drinks. $30.00 per ticket
with one guest. You have a chance to win a gun or money.
Curt Kayser, Club Manager
It has been a very cold and brutal
winter for all of us. In case you missed it,
these are pictures of McCoy’s Ferry.
Though the pictures don’t give it much jus-
tice, I can tell you first hand it was truly a
sight to see the large chunks of ice that
formed in the river and along the banks.

Meet Tony Poffenberger, AKA T-Bone. Tony is the
head grill cook for the Clear Spring Legion with eight years
and counting of dedicated service. Tony specializes in
steaks, secret recipe sauces and there is even a burger
named after him. He is always creating new dishes and
spicing up the old.
It has been said that Tony is the best grill cook in the
area. He receives many compliments on his cooking skills
and even gets text messages asking him when he will be
working. If you haven’t tasted the savory dishes Tony cre-
ates, you are missing out.
Valentine’s Day shimmered with red table
cloths, ceiling decorations and the candle lit table set-
tings glowed and glistened. Mary House, Deb Bivens
and Jill Baum went out of there way to make the at-
mosphere special. The dessert table was overflowing
with delectable treats that tempted the palate. With
Tony’s special touch in the kitchen, there was truly no
better place to be.

The shamrock was chosen Ireland's national emblem because of
the legend that St. Patrick had used it to illustrate the doctrine
of the Trinity. The Trinity is the idea that God is really three-in-
one: The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.
