Environmental science students teamed up with professor Gabe Langford to document the turtle population in our own Lake Hollingsworth. While catching and tagging the turtles using computer chips to enable the study of reptilian movement around the lake, the team discovered that non-native species outnumber native ones.

PURSUING THEIR PASSIONS• Business students collaborated on an in-depth study of identity

theft, presented their findings at a professional conference, and published their results in the Journal of Business Issues.

• Students documented their travels to Fiji, Australia, and New Zealand, and exhibited their photographs in the College’s Melvin Gallery.

• Pioneering research by exercise science students and faculty is recognized nationally for its innovative findings that will help prevent injuries among female basketball players.

• Nursing students traveled through Tanzania providing medical care to children in orphanages.

• FSC’s Enactus team, a professional organization promoting social responsibility in business, won the national ‘Rookie of the Year’ award for its work on six projects in the Lakeland community, including encouraging kids to have healthier eating habits and helping middle schoolers think about attending college or start their own businesses.

• Forensics Mocs (debate team) traveled throughout the U.S., including NYC, utilizing its public-speaking and debating skills to collect more than 20 awards at the state, regional, and national levels since students began intercollegiate competition in 2005.
