Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It’s hard to believe that February is already upon us. Usually February is known for being the month ofVALENTINE’S DAY! This year, it just so happens that February 14 is also ASH WEDNESDAY. This marks thestart of the Season of Lent (which starts early this year as Easter is April 1st). Lent is a season of repentanceand preparation for Christians. Some people will give up something they enjoy to help them remember thesacrifices of Christ. Others may choose to “give to” rather than “give up,” and use this season to give specialsacrificial gifts to the church or other charitable groups. Whatever your practice, Lent is an important time inthe church year to get our hearts ready to receive the Good News of the Resurrection of Christ from theTomb.

This year during Lent we will be doing great activities:

- During the evening Ash Wednesday Service this year, we will be celebrating 1st Communion for 14 ofour young people.

- During the Wednesday Evenings of February 21 through March 21, we will be restarting our Word onWednesday (WOW) series with a study of the Early Church Fathers and all they have to teach us aboutliving out our faith.

- On February 24, we will be having our annual St. Andrews Dinner Dance fund raiser. Please come andjoin in the fun, even if you don’t have kids in the school. This is a great chance to support our biggestministry, our wonderful Day School

Blessings to you as we prepare our hearts together during Lent!

Pastor Matt Hoffmann

ANNUAL HYMNFEST FEBRUARY 11 AT 4:00

St. Andrews sings the good news, and the main way we do this is with hymns.

Come and be inspired by an afternoon of hymns arranged for congregation, school and church choirs, organ, piano, and flute. The variety of hymns and arrangements will show the diversity of this great musical traditionof the church. Short, inspirational readings, drawn from Christian writers of various times, will be read betweenthe singing of hymns.

THE PRELUDE BEGINS AT 3:30 – arrive at that time to hear hymns arranged in different styles and for differentsoloists and groups.

Bring a friend to this festive afternoon! A Bake sale, hosted by our school’s 7th and 8th grades, will take place afterHymnfest.

Soli deo gloria!

David Christiansen, Minister of Music
