The bond between An-drea s and his horses had been cemented. he recount s a couple of examples of t hat fact when ta lk ing about a Mustang who he took

The other, an ex t remely abused Russian A rabian mare, was his mos t cha l leng-ing. her fear of humans and ever y-thing a ssociated w ith t hem made one person descr ib e her a s “a horse t hat w il l never be able to be used for any-thing.” she was so fear ful t hat she had to be sedated to t r im her feet. i t took Cas tano si x months to ga in her t r us t but, once he did, she went home a s a norma l horse, complete-ly different f rom the ter r if ied an ima l t hat f i r s t ar r ived at t he s t able. he descr ib es her ca lm ly leav ing a s “one of my bes t moment s because i was so proud to be able to help her.”

▲▲Straight Egyptian Sire Lines

By Joe FerrissImages from Dr. Karin Thieme, Judith Forbis and Ferriss archives

Unlike most other equine breeds, the Bedouin tribes of Arabia that created the Arabian horse celebrated its matriarchy. A horse’s identity was handed down by the name of its mother’s family. The first thing that a Bedouin would ask about an Arabian horse, a stallion or a mare, is what is its strain – the name of its female line? Any stallion of importance had to be from one of the great female families. This is quite different from established European breeds such as the Thoroughbred who often identified a horse from its patriarchy or sire line first.

As the Arabian horse became popular world wide and traveled farther from its originating culture, the name of the female line was not always as significant as it was for the founding culture. However, horses of straight Egyptian lineage have generally stayed with the Bedouin tradition of often identifying the strain, the female line of a horse so today it is not difficult to ascertain what celebrated female line such horse descends from. Within this Heritage section the reader will find a section on dam lines of straight Egyptian Arabian horses. However first we will review the subject of the sire lines of straight Egyptian Arabian horses.

A sire line today is an indicator of the population distribution of a particular stallion. While a mare may only average about 8 to 12 foals in her lifetime, a stallion could have as many as the great Khemosabi, sire of 1,251 foals in his lifetime. Of the hundreds of thousands of Arabians worldwide today, as a bloodline or even as a nationality element, the straight Egyptian Arabian is only a very small fraction which some estimate at less than 5%, others say a bit more than that. Yet a review of the top 30 sires in the world in terms of the number of get they sired in their lifetime, more than one third of them have a straight Egyptian sire line and account for about one third of the 23,758 foals sired by the top 30. So the sire line is a significant figure worth looking at.

Though there have been numerous sires in the long history of Egyptian breeding the male lineage in Straight Egyptian breeding today is distilled down to four existing sire lines: Zobeyni 1840 Jamil El Kebir 1870 Saklawi I 1880 El Deree 1920

The preponderance or scarcity of a sire line is an indicator of the distribution of certain blood. To accurately explain why some sire lines are prolific and others are rare is speculation at best because there can be many arbitrary factors that influence why some people find one stallion more popular than another. If one particular sire line is more popular for halter champions, another may be more popular for performance horses and another for endurance and racing. In one decade performance may be popular with breeders of that decade while in another decade halter may become the dominant part of the industry.

Sometimes an unforeseen circumstance can affect sire line choices. A case in point would be the magnificent imported Egyptian stallion *El Mareekh (Aseel x Rawayeh) imported to the U.S. in 1979. *El Mareekh was of the Jamil El Kebir sire line, the same as Mr. Babson’s 1932 import *Fadl. Many who saw this spectacular horse, found him breath taking and there were high hopes for him. He tragically died young, leaving less than two dozen Egyptian get. If his son Ibn El Mareekh (x Bint Deenaa) was any example, one can only wonder had El Mareekh lived a full life how he may have been able to expand upon his sire line bringing more choices for Egyptian breeders today. So let’s explore the existing sire lines in straight Egyptian breeding to gain a little understanding them. The sire lines identified here are named after the first root founding Arabian in its line.

▲▲ZOBEYNI Sire LineZobeyni was born about 1840. He was a grey stallion of the Saqlawi Jidran strain bred by Ibn Zubayni of the Fid’an tribe and acquired by Abbas Pasha in Egypt. This is the oldest existing Egyptian sire line. For many years it was the most popular as it is handed down via the great Crabbet sire Mesaoud who was bred by Ali Pasha Sherif in Egypt and acquired by Wilfrid and Lady Anne Blunt for their Crabbet Stud in England. Mesaoud’s son *Astraled was imported in 1901 to the U.S. as an older horse after having left get in England. His son Sotamm had gone to Egypt along with grandson Kazmeyn, both found widely in Egyptian bloodlines today but not in sire line. *Astraled’s son Gulastra would make this sire line famous. For all the popularity of Gulastra in the U.S. only one of his grandsons carried the Zobeyni sire line in straight Egyptian lines and that was Julyan (x Bint Maaroufa). Julyan sired some major winners in America but was only bred to a very small number of available straight Egyptian mares during his time. Nonetheless, his Egyptian sons El Reata Juan and Fadaan have carried the famed old Zobeyni sire line forward. It is a relatively rare sire line today but this important sire line is still available to straight Egyptian breeders.

JAMIL EL KEBIR Sire LineThis is the second oldest and second most represented Egyptian sire line. Jamil El Kebir was a chestnut stallion of the Saqlawi Jidran strain. He was born in the 1870s from Ibn Zubayni of the Mhayd section of the Fid’an Bedouin tribe. Lady Anne Blunt referred to him as “the old chestnut Ibn Sbeyni Seglawi.” He was acquired by Prince Ahmed Pasha Kemal. The Prince is the breeder of Jamil El Kebir’s grandson Dahman El Azrak who Prince Mohammed Ali described as a horse of extreme quality that transmitted good Arab type and strong bone. The main horse who carries the banner for this sire line is Dahman El Azrak’s son Rabdan El Azrak.

The first representatives of this sire line to come to America were the stallions *Zarife (Ibn Samhan x Mahroussa) and *Nasr (Rabdan El Azrak x Bint Yamama). Both of these stallions were imported by W.R. Brown in 1932. *Zarife was imported as a youngster so had no get in Egypt. He was a very handsome and athletic horse who passed on his athletic ability in good measure especially in endurance horses. His only Egyptian son is the famous Hallany Mistanny (x *Roda) who sired one straight Egyptian daughter, Mist Aana so Hallany Mistanny has no sire line in Egyptian breeding. *Nasr was already an older horse when imported. He had been much admired at Prince Mohammed Ali’s stud and was raced in Egypt prior to his importation. His blood in Egypt is narrowly found in female descendants but he left no sire line there. In America he became a highly regarded sire but at a time when there were so few Egyptian mares in the country, *Nasr had very little opportunity to establish an Egyptian sire line. A few of his Egyptian sons were exported to other countries where they were not bred to Egyptian mares though their blood is found today in other bloodlines. Late in his life *Nasr got one Egyptian son in the U.S., Sirecho (*Nasr x *Exochorda). While Sirecho produced several sons of note, his sons are only represented through their daughters so there is no longer a sire line from Sirecho today.

Only months after *Nasr’s importation to the U.S. Mr. Babson went to Egypt and imported a group of Arabians which became the backbone of most straight Egyptian bloodlines in the U.S. for decades before the first Nazeer blood arrived. The only sire in Mr. Babson’s group was *Fadl (Ibn Rabdan x Mahroussa). A cousin to *Nasr, *Fadl became the one who did establish an Egyptian sire line to Jamil El Kebir in the U.S. *Fadl was a handsome horse of classic Arabian type but also an athletic horse who became a part of many performance pedigrees in the U.S. Within Egyptian lines, *Fadl’s sons Fa-Serr (x *Bint Serra), Fabah (x *Bint Bint Sabbah) and Lothar (x Habba) carried the Jamil El Kebir sire line forward in America and it is still available today, mostly from Babson and other “old Egyptian” breeding.

Meanwhile back in Egypt the premier source of the Jamil El Kebir sire line was the heavily used Ibn Rabdan (Rabdan El Azrak x Bint Gamila). He was not only used by the R.A.S. government stud but also the various Princes in their private studs, so he saw a wide opportunity to establish a sire line. Prince Kemal El Dine is the breeder of the Ibn Rabdan son Ibn Fayda who went to the Inshass stud of King Fouad. Ibn Fayda created a sire line eventually carried forward by the great sire Sameh. Though Sameh is most famous for his National champion daughters, his sons *Ibn Hafiza, *Sultann, and Aseel have all established male branches via a number of sons. *Ibn Hafiza is mostly represented by Tammen, *Sultann by Makhsous and Aseel by Ibn El Mareekh.

Ibn Rabdan sired two stallions who were three-quarter brothers to Mr. Babson’s *Fadl. They were Hamdan and Shahloul. Hamdan was gifted to the Royal Inshass stud where he sired Anter (x Obeya), who has three sons that

▲▲carried on the Jamil El Kebir sire line at the E.A.O. Another Anter son was the handsome, brilliant moving black stallion Gharib who went to Germany and established a sire line now found internationally. Hamdan also sired a son named Hamdan II (x Folla) who very narrowly maintained a male line. Shahloul was mainly a broodmare sire remembered for his magnificent daughters Bukra and Moniet El Nefous. However he sired two sons who represent him. The first was El Sareei (x Zareefa), the handsome bay stallion who rarely sired a male horse, mostly all females. However El Sareei’s popular son *Tuhotmos (x Moniet El Nefous) managed to carry on the Shahloul branch. Shahloul also sired Mashhour (x Bint Rustem) whose son Seef (x Elwya) became an important sire at the E.A.O., and is represented by *Ibn Safinaz in the U.S.

In Egypt the other source of Jamil El Kebir’s line was the stallion Ibn Samhan (Samhan x Nafaa El Saghira). Ibn Samhan sired Kheir (x Badaouia) and legendary race horse Balance (x Farida). Kheir’s son Gassir became an outcross stallion for the Nazeer breeding at the E.A.O. and has several sons representing him. For all the fame of the great race horse Balance, his branch of the Jamil El Kebir sire line is very rare indeed. His son Nasrulla was a great athlete but became mainly a mare sire with a very rare male representation. Balance’s other son Emam was also a good race horse but has only one male to carry on the banner for this sire line.

SAKLAWI I Sire LineWithout question the Saklawi I sire line is the most populated sire line within both straight Egyptian breeding and also within the Arabian breed in general. This is the sire line that is represented in ten of the top 30 sires in the breed worldwide. The stallion Saklawi I originates with famed 19th century Egyptian breeder Ali Pasha Sherif. He was born sometime in the 1880s of the Saqlawi Jidran strain. His blood is found in Egyptian breeding through two daughters and three stallions. Only one of his sons created the sire line to him, the stallion Saklawi II out of Ali Pasha Sherif’s El Dahma. Saklawi II is the grandsire of Mansour who sired world renowned Nazeer from whom this sire line is carried forward with many branches. Nazeer is not only of the Saklawi I sire line but he also has five crosses to Saklawi I so is a strong source of his blood.

There are numerous Nazeer sons who carry his sire line banner but among the most globally prominent of these are Hadban Enzahi, Morafic, Ansata Ibn Halima and Aswan. Since Aswan was gifted to Russia as a young horse his line begins in Russia so he does not have a sire line within straight Egyptian breeding but it is nonetheless enormous through his many Russian bred sons as well as his son Palas in Poland. In America the most famous of Aswan’s branches is via *Padron and the huge patriarchy he has created. Nazeer’s first-born straight Egyptian progenitor of his sire line was the pure white stallion Hadban Enzahi who was exported to Germany where he stood at Weil-Marbach. His first straight Egyptian sons were not born until he was 15 years old. Within straight Egyptian lines, *Morafic created the largest patriarchy to Nazeer siring a number of very heavily used straight Egyptian sons and grandsons. Perhaps his largest branch in number of male representatives comes via his son Shaikh Al Badi, sire of Ruminaja Ali, Alidaar and others. *Ansata Ibn Halima’s web is also very large through both sons and daughters but his popular son El Hilal extended his branch greatly in the U.S. with 639 get. There are many popular sons of *Ansata Ibn Halima and his patriarchy is extended internationally via his son Ansata Halim Shah.

EL DEREE Sire LineThe sire line to El Deree is the most relatively recent sire line. El Deree was a classic example of the true Bedouin war horse, a stallion of quality conformation, who was very fast as a runner and a very good sire. He was a 1920 grey stallion of the Saqlawi Shaifi strain acquired from Hussayn al-Dayri from the al-Jibur tribe. He was taken to Egypt and became a founding sire for King Fouad’s Royal Inshass Stud. Later he was gifted to the R.A.S. where he sired the legendary Sid Abouhom. Sid Abouhom was a great race horse and much admired by Director General VonSzandtner, manager of the E.A.O. Sid Abouhom’s daughters formed the core of VonSzandtner’s plans for the E.A.O. while most sons were sold for racing. Under these circumstances one would think that the sire line to El Deree would vanish. However there were a few sons of Sid Abouhom who were incorporated later into the E.A.O. breeding. Most notable of these is the fine race horse Amrulla out of the Balance daughter Zaafarana. Amrulla sired the magnificent stallion Akhtal, one of the most spectacular since *Morafic. Akhtal and half brother Nawaf continued the sire line of El Deree for the E.A.O. Two other Sid Abouhom sons produced male representatives also, Ibn Abla and Ibn Hamama, who only have one or two representatives in the U.S. so are very rare indeed.

What follows here is a sire line chart showing the various branches of these sire lines.

Egyptian Sire lines within Straight Egyptian breeding: (* asterisk denotes imported to North America)

Indentations in this chart represent succeeding generations of males. This chart does not imply that there are no more than what appear here but these include those who represent the preponderance of their line. There are certainly younger stallions that are sons or grandsons of those shown here, so this is not the final word on sire lines. The most heavily represented branches of the Saklawi I sire line are *Morafic [32 sons] and *Ansata Ibn Halima [45 sons]. They are so prolific and so well known internationally as are many of their sons and grandsons so only the estimated number of sons in their line are given. It is often easy to determine a Nazeer sire line individual in any 6 generation pedigree but for this chart, only the main branches are listed here. The rarer sire lines have been extended a bit further owing to the scarcity of sons representing them. Primary branches of sire lines are also shown in boldface.

REPRESENTATIVES IN PYRAMID SOCIETY MEMBERS’ BREEDING PROGRAMS

In the pages that follow, you will find a “snapshot,” a sampling of today’s living horses descended through tail-male sire lines of the 26 selected Heritage Stallions named in this guide. All of the horses profiled here are found in the breeding programs of Pyramid Society members who hold in high regard its mission to preserve, perpetuate, and promote the Straight Egyptian horse. Some of these horses are exquisite foundation mares and stallions, celebrated and revered by their long-time owners. Some are stunning young sires and promising future broodmares, representing a new generation of stories to be written. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the many Egyptian Event advertisers who chose to showcase their horses

and their clients’ horses in this 3rd Edition of our annual Heritage Guide.

With seven crosses to the phenomenal *Morafic, Achaean Ariadni follows in the tradition of both beauty and performance. Her limited showing resulted in a Top Five in the 2014 Egyptian Event Hunter Pleasure Championship.

This strong cross, sired by the Ruminaja Ali son Achaean Ali (Egyptian Event Top Ten Sire and USEF 2009-2013 Leading Sire) and out of the Ibn Dalul daughter Faarrah Image, also produced Achaean Ariadni's full sister, Achaean Alithea++, a Sport Horse Champion, Three Day Eventer and USEF Horse of the Year.

Achaean Ariadni is fulfilling the promise of her legendary pedigree with a bright future in performance and as a broodmare. BRED & OWNED BY

The pedigree of this stallion is enriched by landmark stallions like Rashdan, Akhtal, Makhsous, Galal, Sultan, Sameh, Nazeer, Morafic, Wahag, Ansata Ibn Halima, and others.

Mohannad Albadeia bred some very promising get, thus confirming that this cross will be of great value to the future progress of Albadeia breeding program.

Nagham is the son of Farid Albadeia, the most influential stallion that was bred by Albadeia.

Nagham is also one of several other stallions and mares that form the pillars of our breeding program. He follows the traditions of his sire and is producing some superb get.

He was twice National Champion in Egypt, while many of his daughters were also proven successful show horses.

Some remarkable horses are found in his pedigree. For example; Morafic, Nazeer, Malekat Al Gamal, Monet El Nefous, Ramses Fayek, Emad, El Araby, Sid Abouhom , and Kayed, just to name a few.

Al Mouhareb’s pedigree represents a unique combining of the best of two famous international breeding farms: Imperial Egyptian Stud and Ansata Egyptian Stud. Al Mouhareb is the first son of Ansata Nile Echo to be born in America. So elegant and well-bred was this son of Ansata Hejazi that he waspurchased and exported to the Middle East as a yearling. There, he is know asthe “King of Trot.”

Of the 14 horses in Al Mouhareb’s first four generations, ten have been exported to become international champions and foundation bloodstock in other countries, and the four horses remaining are mares - some deceased, and others no longer producing.

There are many who consider a breeding sire’s tail-female lineage to be of exceptional importance. Al Mahoureb’s legendary tail-female is the remarkable Sameh daughter and 1971 U.S. National Champion Mare, *Serenity Sonbolah.Al Mouhareb manifests a superb blending of his lineage, resembling the best from each as an intelligent, athletic stallion with incredible beauty, size, motionand charisma.

The Sequel, who looks much like another Heritage Stallion, Ibn Hafiza, was named specifically for the time that he would be asked take on Desperado’s responsibilitiesin the breeding program at Arabians Ltd. The Sequel was Egyptian Event Silver Supreme Champion Stallion right in this very arena. Each of our stallions have unique, strong traits. It is Sequel’s EYES that are so remarkable. He is also proving to produce exceptional foals out of Mishaal daughters and this year is breeding to animpressive group of top, non-Egyptian mares.

Possibly no stallion in the Arabians Ltd. stallion barn so closely goes to and, other than color, resembles *Morafic more than Thee Infidel. He is the last son of Bint Magidaa.

Thee Infidel competed very successfully. He was the champion in the inaugural EBC colts class, Reserve Junior Champion Colt at The Egyptian Event, Region 9 Top Five stallion, and U.S. National Top Ten Futurity colt. Two years later, in an impressive group, he was named Top Ten in U.S. National open stallions!

Thee Infidel has sired two Egyptian Event Junior Champion fillies that also went on to be named Silver Champion mares. His daughters are some of the program’s most solid producers and have crossed very well with Mishaal HP. You will see at least one of those this week! Now a 5-year-old Straight Egyptian mare of outstanding quality and breeding, Amiri Wanisa represents the impeccable, champion sire lines of El Mareekh and Ruminaja Ali. She is also another fine example of the extraordinary individuals descended from the *Omayma family, with her dam’s tail-female line tracing directly to *Omayma, the National Champion mare of Australia. Amiri has the breeding to be a top producer.

Amiri Wanisa has a calm and quiet disposition, especially around people. Her very correct conformation and big trot are beautifully accented by a high tail carriage, a dishy head, and all of those ethereal characteristics you look for in a top broodmare. Today, she is lovingly cared for at Merryman Arabians, but she would be a strong future addition to anyone’s breeding herd.

The aptly named HEIR BORN was hidden away for much of his life without being shown or bred. Asante’

excellent stallion, who is the ONLY son of World Champion Stallion IMPERIAL IMDAL+ out of a daughter of Reserve National Champion Stallion SHAIKH AL BADI at stud. When HEIR BORN was previously presented at the Egyptian Event, noted judge Jim Panek said: "Years earlier I was on the panel of judges at the Salon du Cheval in Paris who named Imperial Imdal+ World Champion Stallion. The likeness of Heir Born to his world famous sire is quite remark-able." HEIR BORN has his sire's true desert type, with substance, good bone, a wedge shaped head with large eyes, plume tail carriage and charisma. He sires in his own image-don't miss this opportunity!

up and put into an amulet to be worn around the neck as in old bedu tradition, A Samia would show the distinction of descending in the female line from the original Saklawi Jidran mare Roga El Beda in the stud of Ali Pasha Sherif in the 19th century. A Samia shares this prized lineage with A Illuminatus to whom she is destined to be bred. A Samia also benefits from the keen breeders’ eye of long time breeder Marion Richmond of Simeon Stud for being sired by Simeon Sadran, the handsome Australian champion chestnut stallion who is

mane Australian National Champion mare Simeon Sehavi. A Samia's female line brings something unique to Athala Arabians, as her dam, Cedars Samedi, is a daughter of the beloved black stallion Al Baraki, a leading Egyptian Event sire as well as international champion. He is also 7/8 brother to other Egyptian Event winners and sires of winners such as CN Jericho and Insignia DeSha. A Samia's granddam Shalom Sabbath is a daughter of superior dressage champion

Saklawi family. Shalom Sabbath has the distinction of carrying the original Saklawi Jidran line of Moniet El Nefous via her daughter Mouna through the celebrated breeding of Dr. Nagel's beautiful bay mare Bint Bint Jamil, dam of Egyptian Event Supreme Champion Pimlico RCA. So destiny has brought a great lineage to Athala. A Samia is residing with Misty Valley Arabians and had her first foal - a stunning grey colt by the herd sire of Athala Arabians, A Illuminatus, a stallion who descends from the “Kings of the Nile.”

SHEAREE

There is an old saying that says when two greys mate and produce a bay they reveal a hidden pearl. In the breeding of Shearee, many pearls are revealed. Shearee was bred by Marion Richmond of world renowned Simeon Stud in Australia, and Marion knows pearls when she sees them. Shearee is a reflection of this long-time breeders’ foresight. She is sired by the incomparable Asfour, an iconic white pearl whose incredible type and beautiful motion are inborn. Asfour is of the Nazeer sire line via Hadban Enzahi, the 4th leading sire line from Nazeer, but he is also a son of the celebrated bay mare Hanan, the first pearl, all of whose sons AND daughters are of equal fame and influence. Shearee's dam is Simeon Shearith, a daughter of the Adonis-like Anaza Bay Shahh, whose rich mahogany bay color makes him the second pearl, a color he gets from his famous bay granddams, Bint Maisa El Saghira and Deenaa, both makers of "Kings." Shearee's granddam is sired by Imperial Madaar, whose dam is none other than the magnificent bay mare Ansata Nile Mist, a matron of the celebrated "Nile" family. Going back further in the female line of Shearee is the champion producing Simeon Safanad, who produced World Champion Simeon Shai+, coming at last to the final pearl - the bay mare who started this renowned family, Rida, a classic Hadban Enzahi mare. Shearee is now herself a pearl revealed.

Aanisah is a 1995 black daughter of Fa Daalim, Fantasia Arabians’ beloved foundation sire and source of the Daaldan blood in our program. Her maternal granddam, Fa Badiiah Anniq is also a daughter of Fa Daalim, adding a second genetic source of Daaldan. Of the five mares imported by Babson in 1932, the blood of *Bint Saada and *Bint Bint Durra is represented fewer times in present day Babson pedigrees, than the other imported mares. For us, the Daaldan influence makes Fa Aanisah unique and carries on the legacy of these two mares forward into the future. Fa Aanisah is substantial, correct and yet remarkably elegant. Her head is short, wide and expressive, with prominence of bone that enhances her dry, desert look. Her eyes, large and lustrous, reflect her kind character. Maar Mara, a 2002 black mare sired by Zarife El Mansour and out of Sunnyru Maaroufa, is representative of the rich source of Fa-Serr in our program. While many of our horses trace to Fa-Serr in pedigree, it is Maar Mara who has eight lines to Fa-Serr through the stallions, Ibn Fa-Serr and Faaris, and the mares: Serrasab, Fasera, Misimma and Sera Beth. Maar Mara is really a classic mare, her rich black coat enhancing her typey and authentic look which celebrates the concentrated influence of the jet black Fa-Serr. Like

On a visit to dear friends and fellow breeders of Straight Egyptian Arabians in 2009, we saw an absolutely lovely aged mare and her new beautiful filly. It was love at first sight, and it was at that point the search began... We wanted to include a daughter of the mare we saw that day, Ruminaja Sonbolah. As fate and great friends would have it, in 2011 our dream came true, and we acquired Duquesah KA. A 2001 Kuhaylan Rodan mare Quesah's is of the Jamil El Kebir sire line from the Ibn Rabdan Branch, through the well-known Samah son *Sultann. We were thrilled in 2014 to welcome the fine chestnut filly

sired by Jabbaar El Halimaar MH. We can't wait to see what the future has in store for us with beautiful, classic Duquesah KA.

Hadaya Arabians is proud to present our 2002 Saklawi mare Shafali to represent the Saklawi I or Nazeer branch of the Heritage Stallions through Alaa Al Din. Shafali is a balanced, refined mare of superb type. Her beauty and overall presence was impossible to resist, and by 2011 we were thrilled to be able to acquire her. She has been an invaluable addition to our herd of broodmares. In the time Shafali has graced the stables and pastures of

lovely fillies and a handsome colt. In 2012 Hadaya Safiya arrived, sired by the Saklawi stallion Ansata Qasim. In July of 2013, we were thrilled to welcome a second filly, Hadaya Johannah, this treasure sired by the Nile line, Dahman Shahwan stallion Ansata Nile Commander. To round out her amazing contribution to date, in 2014 Shafali gave us a wonderful colt, Hadaya Shafik by Kaliph MH. We are proud all three carry the Hadaya prefix and happily anticipate the possibility of adding more significant colts and fillies out of elegant Shafali to continue the Hadaya legacy.

Hadaya Nile Dove, is one of our most treasured mares. A classic 1994 member of our herd, Dove is of the Sakawi I heritage sire line, through the legendary stallion *Ansata Ibn Halima. Hadaya Nile Dove is a mare that embodies the physical and genetic traits which the most discerning breeder of Straight Egyptians seeks. In addition, she possesses that intangible essence of the desert or “tent” Arabian horse... She is a timeless classic, a beloved of

tradition. Dove has never disappointed, serving as a bridge through the generations of our family breeding

An exciting new addition to the Hadaya breeding program has been the 2009 Kuhaylan Rodan mare Ansata Rihana. Acquired in 2014, Rihana represented the classic type, and consistency associated with horses of the world renowned Ansata breeding program. She has correct conformation, overall balance, refinement, and a large, wonderful, luminous eye, which compliments her dry, exquisitely-formed head. Ansata Rihana, may be counted as a fine example of her sire line, which is traced to Saklawi I through the magnificent Saklawi stallion Morafic. Our goal for Rihana will be that, as a member of our core broodmare herd, she bring meaningful genetic diversity and maintain our high standards for Arabian breed type. Perhaps Ansata Rihana will usher in another important family here at Hadaya. At present we are hopeful that in 2016 Ansata Rihana will bless us with her first foal.

A vision in copper, bronze and gold, this gorgeous stallion has quite a following! His fairytale looks aside, the genetics behind Damascus are solid. With three crosses to Sultann and one more to Sameh through Ibn Hafiza, Damascus certainly inherited the best of that lineage. Not only does he sport his great-grandsire’s magnificent burnished dark chestnut and flaxen mane coloring, but he also has the balance and motion you would expect from the Sameh lines. In addition Damascus is extremely exotic and exudes Arabian type and charisma; he is simply a complete package. Damascus has his first foals on the ground, and they are as exciting as he is – with several also modeling that fancy coloring from their Sultann heritage! The future with Damascus is as bright as his shimmering color!

A peacock flag tail and curious look greet visitors who come to Kehilan and see Majid. This young stallion is double Sultann and very much his sire’s protégé. The same keen intelligence and confident personality. The same balance and harmony. Majid thanks Sultann for his length of leg while still maintaining a short cannon bone. Also from Sultann you find the high set neck, superb shoulder and smooth topline with a short, broad back and flag tail carriage even with one step. Majid’s dam was a truly beautiful daughter of Makhsous with tail female to Ansata Sabiha. While his shorter head with the big jowls are reflective of his Dahman heritage, his expression and demeanor are all Sameh. Recently a proud papa for the first time, his newborn filly is exquisite, exhibiting her sire’s long, long legs and terrific neck set – a very elegant start as a sire. We are certain Majid will have an influence on the Kehilan herd in the years to come.

We have been blessed to share our lives with such a grand stallion. Makhnificent KA is a breeder’s dream. Very prepotent for his type and style, his children have become easy to recognize. A National winning show horse himself, he has sired winners in many continents as well as here in the U.S.A. He is the sire of U.S. Champions, Sweepstakes winners, International Champions, Egyptian Event Champions and EBC Champions. His children grace the breeding programs of many astute Arabian breeders on many continents, including sons standing as herd-sires in their own right. The Sultann influence is strong in all the “Bubba” children - strong hips and croups with excellent legs and feet, a superb shoulder, and terrific movement all compliment his perfect tail carriage. Those tiny, tippy Sultann ears are also passed to his children. But perhaps the most striking feature from Sultann would be the extreme confidence and intelligence that Makhnificent exudes. Like his grandsire before him, Makhnificent feels he is King of Kehilan. And we agree! His photo on this page is taken at 20 years of age.

The first thing you notice about Naadir are those eyes! Huge, liquid black eyes with an inquisitive, intelligent expression. No doubt the eyes come from both sides of his pedigree. But there is something about Naadir and his expression – he looks into you and not at you. This was something his double-grandsire Sultann would do. Naadir is the golden cross at Kehilan – Makhnificent onto a Marquis daughter. The best of both Makhsous sons. As with all of our Sultann-bred children, he carries forward the smooth body with a short and tight back, long hip and croup and truly perfect flag tail carriage! Naadir is very extreme in type and has a truly exotic face and eye. His fancy carriage is also evident in his airy but powerful trot. Five generations of Kehilan breeding brings us this extraordinary young stallion! Blending the best of Makhnificent and Marquis - once again - this is the golden cross of a Makhnificent daughter onto a Marquis daughter and coming from our stellar Thawra family! With four crosses to Sultann and one more to Sameh through Ibn Hafiza, it is no wonder we see the smooth body and fantastic motion

Sameh line. The extreme type and beauty is a testament to some very beautiful mares in his lineage, including Nabda, Dahmah Shawaniah, Rawayeh, Masarra,

own dam, Simpli Iresistibl, truly one of the most gorgeous horses at Kehilan. To say we are excited about his future as a sire is an understatement!

SAMIR ALI, sired by Bellagio RCA, represents Aseel, a 1967 grey EAO stallion. Aseel is a son of Sameh and sire of El Mareekh, both known for producing great bodies and movement, as evidenced in Samir. This tall “black beauty” has many Halter class

large, so eyes, which earned him the coveted "Most Classic Head" at the 2014 Event.

Legendary U.S. Champion Stallions fill his powerful pedigree. A double great grandson of Thee Desperado, he is linebred to Ruminaja Ali , TheEgyptianPrince, and Ansata Ibn Halima. His typey, exotic dam, Barakis Gem, adds the precious blood of *Shahir IASB, Salaa El Din, *Jamill, Ibn Moniet El Nefous, and Ansata Imperial. Revered mares, such as Moniet El Nefous, Bint Magidaa, Ansata Justina, Hanan, Imperial Imphayana, and Rhapsody in Black, grace his pedigree, which traces in tail female to the Heritage Mare *Omayma. Samir Ali means "Highly Exalted Companion," and he was named in the Bedouin tradition. A delightful foal, and now a “gentleman,” we wait with great anticipation for 2016 to see the expected ten foals from this exciting young stallion.

This millennial stallion was one of the first to be a result of a purchase for a stallion service to Marquis I at the Egyptian Breeders’ Challenge auction. He is also tail-male Jamil El Kebir on the sire line for his dam, Nagda (Nabiel x Bint Magidaa by Khofo). Noble was Reserve Champion at the 2001 Egyptian Event, and his daughter, Sybella SMF out of Samura by Anaza El Farid, was an Egyptian Breeders’ Challenge Champion filly. He has garnered other show ring wins, such as Top Ten Straight Egyptian Futurity Colts of 2000 and 2004 Straight Egyptian Extended Futurity Champion. He is one of the powerful senior stallions on the roster at Silver Maple Farm. As a sire, he will consistently pass his beautiful, big, dark eyes, tiny ears, high set arched neck, and silken hair coat, plus add more length of leg along with a smooth body and high set tail.

Possibly this is one of the most charismatic young stallions on the show scene today! Shown lightly, he has garnered titles at the Egyptian Event as a yearling and a Reserve Championship as a four-year old stallion. This year he was Champion Stallion at California’s Golden Gate, “A” show in the Amateur Stallion Class and Reserve Champion Open Stallion. At the 2015 Las Vegas World Cup he was third in the Liberty class, his first time out among stellar company. Being intensely line-bred to Bint Bint Sabbah has set valuable physical traits like his beautiful curved neck, powerful movement and finely-sculpted head. Sidon has the quintessential and legendary “live in your tent” personality and is a true joy to be around. With balance and harmony galore, along with his gorgeous sexy mane and tail flying, he creates a fairy-tale horse. Named for an ancient Phoenician City, Sidon (pronounced Saydoon) was a crossroads of that time; this stallion is a treasure with a timeless quality.

It has been such a privilege to have Sahra and her dam and sibling in my life. She is an awesome representative of her legendary ancestry. Her tail-male line is to Morafic and his sire, the great and well-known Nazeer! Sahra’s sire was known as Mr. Struk-ture. His owners at Abraxas sent him for training to prep for showing, but he unfortunately broke a leg and then had a rod in his leg, so he could not be shown. However, he and ET Crown Prince and TheEgyptianPrince certainly all made names for themselves, especially with beautiful babies.

Her dam’s tail-male line also gave Sahra fabulous influence with the legendary blood of Shahmiaa’s grandsire being Ansata Halim Shah.

Her carefully selected ancestors gave her great beauty,

movement and athletic ability. She is balanced so beautifully: a nice short back, long legs and neck and a nice throat latch. She has tail carriage, as well as tippy ears and the “to-die-for big black eyes,” which, fortunately, her half-sister STNSNN Sadicat (by HS Hero) and her dam and 2015 filly pictured are also blessed to portray!

Her foal is also a fabulous representative of the Morafic tail-male line and is also a beautiful example of the Nazeer line through BKA Rashiiq, sire of the awesome Ibn Shahlima. He was EE Top 4 Halter Stallion, Class A Halter Champion, and Most Classic Head.

These two exquisite examples of extraordinary beauty are a blessing and a joy and help me realize the reality of my ongoing passion for the Egyptian Arabian.

An elegant figure with the crimson glow of an ember… Amirat Al Yakout is the result of rare breeding—a blend of prestigious international programs from yesterday and today, such as Gleannloch, Ansata, El Thayeba, and Ariela, to name a few. Tracing to Om Dalal through Ghazala of the Inshass Royal Stud, she boldly represents the Saqlawiyah Jidraniyah Ibn Sudan strain through her tail female line. Tracing to the famed Heritage Stallion, *Ansata Ibn Halima, her tail male line's Saklawi heritage further elaborates on her ethereal qualities. Needless to say, she is an individual of femininity and great stature.

Amirat Al Yakout is the foundation mare of The Hadassah Reserve, the blossoming breeding program of designer and artist Augusta Hammock.

“Finding her was one of those classic scenarios...” recounts Augusta. “The exact thing I was searching high and low for was right in front of me for so long, but my eyes weren’t opened to it until the time was right. It’s a lengthy story, but let’s just say that this mare is exactly what I’ve waited years upon years for.She is worthy of being called a matriarch. She’s just incredible."

Sired by World Champion Hadidi and the final foal of International Champion-producing Savannah CC,The Black Magidaa honors the sire line Gharib through both sides of her pedigree. Coal black in a tall frame of elegance and stretch, this young mare is very precious to us. With the loss of her dam when she was just three weeks of age, The Black Magidaa became a special remembrance of her wonderful mother. She IS her mother, in black.

The Black Magidaa stood the test of yet another challenge as a two-year-old: colic surgery. But she has gone on to thrive and grow into an exquisite young mare. Our hope is that we will be able to share her with others in the show ring in the future, honoring her mother as did her siblings Nader al Jamal, Al Bahir, TS Vivien Leigh, Dianaah, and Apolloniaa.
