As I write this newsletter note, I am also preparing my sermon for this coming Sunday morning. This coming weekend, we celebrate Good Shepherd Sunday which reminds us that Jesus, the Good Shepherd is our door to heaven. Imagine Jesus entering the sheep pen through the door in order to be among us just as He came to us as a baby in Bethlehem. While He walked, He speaks with a voice that is understood by His sheep. Jesus uses this same voice today just as He did when we walked the earth. Today, we hear His voice through the Gospel. The message is clear that Jesus is the door to heaven. He has laid down His life for His sheep to take it up again, all of His own accord. In Him, and Him alone, do we find lasting forgiveness, safety, and peace. Sheep, you and I in this case, know the voice of the Good Shepherd. He continues to speak to us during the difficult times and in the good times throughout our lives. We are in a particularly difficult time as we wait out Covid-19. Continue to seek the voice of the Good Shepherd through His Word in the days ahead. In closing, I would like to share a couple of things with you: We continue to look forward to the day in which we gather once again in His house for worship and Bible study. We will celebrate. Continue to monitor your email, Facebook, YouTube and our website www.oslwashington.org for updates. Weekday devotions will continue to be posted on YouTube and Facebook each morning. Weekend worship services will be posted on Saturday evening. Vicar Tim and I will continue to offer Bible studies on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM via Facebook Live. Offerings can be mailed to the church office or you may begin ACH withdraws from your bank. See the website for details. The church is closed but often there is someone here. Abby’s Announcements

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I do not know what to say, except that life still goes on during this time of Covid-19. My hope is that you can find something new to delight in during this time. In Psalm 37 it says, “Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart” (Ps 37).

A way of how we can delight in the Lord is to think about a song, prayer, or scripture verse that gives encouragement. I will start by saying that one song that I am really enjoying now is You Say by Lauren Daigle. The chorus says, “You say I am strong when I feel weak.” During this time, it is easy to listen to outside voices, but Lauren Daigle reminds us to listen to a voice greater in that of God.

Maybe one of your favorite songs, prayers, or scripture verses can be of encouragement to others. In staying connected and showing the love of Jesus to others feel free to post verses, lyrics, and prayers all over the place. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, text someone, call someone, put lyrics, verses, or prayers on your house windows to encourage those walking past your house.

Also know that if you need prayers, someone to talk with, etc. Feel free to call me at 816-668-6205 or email at [email protected]. God’s mercy and peace be with you, and as an extravert I am still missing the human interaction so I am sending out another big hug. In Christ,

Vicar Tim

UKANDU 2020

It is with a saddened heart that I share some news. The UKANDU Mission trip for 2020 has been postponed until the summer of 2021. During the past few weeks, it has become evident that because of social distancing, closures and unanswered questions that the trip would be postponed.

This was a difficult decision made by the UKANDU Board of Directors to ensure the safety of our participants and those that we serve in the Chicagoland area. We have 17 very disappointed participants from our congregation along with the almost 270 other participants from our sister congregations.

Your support of this year’s trip has been overwhelming both through prayers and financially. The original $470 challenge that was made in mid-March was more than tripled. God is good. Thank you for your generosity.

For those that did support UKANDU financially and would like to redirect your contribution to another ministry area, please let me know. Otherwise, any money that has been collected will be set aside and used for next year’s mission trip.

Please continue to keep the UKANDU Board of Directors and leaders in your prayers as preparations are already underway for our trip in 2021. Most of all, please pray for the schools, congregations and agencies that rely on the work and ministry that we supply each summer as they seek to find other means of support.

Preschool The doors may be closed, but the learning continues! With the mandatory closure of all IL schools, Our Savior Preschool has gotten creative in how to reach our students. Our number one priority is for them to feel safe and loved at this time. While the lessons are a plus, the goal is to maintain relationships and bring just a little bit of “normal” to their day.

Packets are being put together for each class that go with our weekly themes. Each packet contains an ABC activity, a fine motor activity, a math activity, and an art or craft activity. Most weeks also contain a science activity. We meet on Zoom, an online platform, for 30-40 minutes on their regularly scheduled days. During this time, we do our morning song, morning prayer, calendar, and question of the day. Then, I share a book or we do one of the packet activities together. Vicar, Abby, and Heather have been popping in to the sessions, as well. They love to see their big friends from church.

Our April themes included: Rainbows and Weather, Easter, Farms, Plants, and Bees. In May, we will move to a less structured schedule. I will be doing a Facebook Live story time on Monday, a science experiment on Tuesday, and meeting only once with each class on their respective days: Wednesday or Thursday. These Zooms will focus on keeping in touch and letting them see their friends. We’ll do a scavenger hunt where I’ll call out items and they have to find them in their house, play Simon Says, have some fun dress up days, and other interactive activities.

Our 4 year old graduation was scheduled for Wednesday, May 20th. We are working on a way to celebrate this class while still adhering to current guidelines. While this isn’t the way I imagined my first year at OSLP ending, I am grateful for the blessing of our time together, the relationships with parents, families, and students, and the opportunity to share God’s love with the children. Thank you for your love and support! Looking forward to doing it all again next year.

Exciting News! We have been assigned a Vicar for

2020-2021. Alex Goodwin and his wife Esther will be joining us later this summer. Vicar Alex and

his wife are expecting their first child in late August. Continue to keep Vicar Alex and Esther

in your prayers.
