Introduction

The poem the Solitary Reaper by William words worth is a poem that is written by William afterhis encounter with a young woman who was singing a beautiful song that William could notunderstand. The poem talks about the lady and the song she was singing. The Flea is a poemthat is written by John Donne. The poem explains the relationship between the character that isa man and a woman using the flea as a metaphor. The title Flea was developed after a womanin a saloon was bitten by a flea as the poets were reciting poems in the salon. This attracted thepoets and they started writing poems about the animal. The thesis statement is comparing andcontrasting the structure, the language and the titles of the poems the Solitary Reaper byWilliam and the Flea by John (Kirszner, &Mandell, 2010)

Title

 The titles of the two poems are similar as they are derived from a certain adventure and theyare connected with the content or message of the poem. The title Solitary Reaper is derivedfrom the encounter William had with the lady. William wrote this poem using this title becausehe was interested in the song the woman was singing. The title is connected with the content ormessage of the poem. The title the Flea is derived from the encounter the poets had in thesalon as a woman was bitten by the flea hence the name. The title flea is connected with themessage of the poem as the author has used the flea to show the relationship between the manand the woman. The flea bites the characters in the story showing the relationship between thetwo (Kirszner, &Mandell, 2010)

The Solitary Reaper

The two poems have different structures. The poem the Flea by John Donne has three stanzasand each stanza has nine lines while the poem the Solitary Reaper by William has four stanzaswith each stanza having eight lines. The two poems are similar in line structure as the authorshave used both complete sentences and incomplete sentences and the sentences convey theright meaning. Another similarity between the two poems is the length of the stanzas. Thestanzas in the poem the Flea and the poem the Solitary Reaper are similar as the lines in thepoem have varying length (Kirszner, &Mandell, 2010)

Language

The language in the two poems is also different. In the poem the Flea by John the author hasused a persuasive language so as to convey the message in the poem well. The persuasivelanguage is seen between the characters in the poem. While in the poem the Solitary Reaperthe author has not used a persuasive language but a conversation language to show how thewoman was singing while reaping the grain and how he could not understand the song. In theSolitary reaper the author has used conversational words while in the Flea the author has usedpersuasive words (Kirszner, &Mandell, 2010)

Conclusion

The thesis statement is comparing and contrasting the structure, the title and the language ofthe two poems. That is the Flea by John and the Solitary Reaper by William. The two poems aresimilar in that the titles of the poems are derived from an adventure and the titles areinterconnected with the content of the poems. The two poems have different structures as theFlea has three stanzas with each stanza having nine lines and the Solitary Reaper has fourstanzas with each stanza having eight lines. The poems have also used different languages toconvey the message (Kirszner, &Mandell, 2010)
